I’d do almost anything to stop my seizures. I’ve always been super independent, and I absolutely love driving. I haven’t been able to work in a year, my social life is completely dead- I’m only 22… I don’t want to lose my youth to this disease

Take your first chance at surgery and take your meds. Just got the confirmation today about surgery on my right temporal lobe! Lucky to be in Canada with amazing healthcare. I've gone into status 7 times in the last 8 years, every grand mal I've had besides one has been status epilepticus.

I have epilepsy and have severe episodes, I fall too fall and have a big grad mal seizure lasting more than 2-3 minutes with 20-26 times a day, I also have staring seizures and locked up kind also. Some times I stop breathing for few seconds at a time, I’ve broken my back due too falling gran mal, and have had surgery on my left temple lobe, this has helped but not completely, I still get them everyday just not as much, it’s still getting looked into but until then I’m not too good, I’ve only had it for 11 years now, nothing at all in my younger years... I just need a major look over, I’ve been too numerous neurological drs but no one has any idea on what too do next. So I’m hoping that it can be me again soon.

I'm so sorry to hear about the kind of seizures you have, especially that you broke your back! I fall and break things right on my butt and it's sore for several days, I have the staring kind too, I've had them at work, on the bus, in the park, in the shower. I've had wrecks driving and taken so many different meds...I'm taking 5 meds now. I'm 63 had them since I was a teenager. I had a small tumor removed from my right temporal lobe and they thought it would work or help but it didn't so looks it like I might have another surgery. My meds help a lot but not completely like they should I hope by now I hope you have found a doc that has been able to help you stop having them every day. Keep the faith.

If you have surgery do NOT let them remove your right hippocampus!!!! In these times of zooming technology our short term memory is critical to managing our devices yet their "intuitive" modalities and applications change all the time. My right hippocampus was removed. I am profoundly frustrated and stressed with these modes of communicating, which is a seizure trigger. A side effect for me of a right temporal lobe resection and the removal of my right hippocampus has been the inability to organize things AND Transient Epileptic Amnesia which sucks ass! However I can drive.... but, for me, I'd take my whole brain back in a hot second... seizures and all.

I feel so regretful and hopeless. I need my brain back. I can’t stop crying. I was fine the first 2 weeks then had a seizure. My eyesight is very sensitive and my balance is bad. I’m going to use a walker and physical therapy. Do you feel any better or still regret?

Hi my name is Declan O Shaughnessy Tubber County Galway Ireland I have been a person suffering from epilepsy for 30 years went through all anti Convulsant Medicine and had right frontal lobectomy brain surgery yes my surgery went well but I agree with you my long term memory is still at 90-95%,but my short term memory is down to 10-15%after a large amount of my brain removed. My seizures are under control with a lower amount of medication, stress and diet are two key factors. Best wishes and best of health to you and those dearest to you hope all goes well cheers Declan 👍👍🙏🙏🙏💓💓

Thank you for providing a balanced video as too many of the videos I have watched feel like I'm being 'sold' something , yet to make a decision of whether I am going to have surgery I want all sides.

I was hoping for a slightly more defined list of side effects of the lobectomy. I have seen other people with epilepsy come back from surgery completely unaware of what's going on around them. They can't speak or respond physically. Others come back with stronger and more frequent seizures. My doctor has been trying to sell this surgery on me from my first appointment. When you say "memory problems" most people don't realize you are referring to not knowing your mother's name. I'd like to know more details on side effects as well as the frequency of those side effects.

Doctors themselves do not really grasp what it means to have surgically induced brain damage. The Brain is such an interconnected tissue so that any disruption in those networks can cause a multitude of cognitive, sicial and behavioural problems for tge patient. There is no way to forecast what will happen, since we have no such intricate understanding and map of the brain.

Being your own advocate and considering risk is so important. I've been considering many of the possibilities and likelihoods for different outcomes for the different procedures my doctor is now suggesting. As far as I can tell, my doctor wants to throw a hail marry in terms of likelihood of ANY success/risks of permanent or serious damage. She literally told me her first suggestion, resection, was a 50/50 for my particular case... really!? Second suggestion is the RNS and isn't an instant 100% "cure" but basically always helps some, usually a lot, learns and changes as time goes on, and is REVERSABLE compared to cutting out a piece of brain that you can't put back...

Mine have progressed from auras when I was a child to ones that lasted 30 seconds to tonic clonic ones that last more than 10 minutes. I have seen many neurologists. The lasted one says surgery is an option but an other MRI and EEG are needed first. I've had 4 of each so I'm not hopeful.

@Monique DeWyk My epilepsy is similar to yours. As you probably know epilepsy see is an incredibly complicated condition and is not at all the same for everyone. It's not a one size fits all and there are many medications out there some work for some people others to not. Some medications bring on bad side effects in some people and in other people they work just fine. Mine have changed over the years like yours have and there are so many different types of seizures that it's hard to say what type of seizure someone has because they can originate in so many different parts of the brain. Like you, right now I am in the process of getting different tests; I just had an fMRI and next week I'm going to have a neuropsychological test. I had a craniotomy in 2006 to remove a tumor but that didn't help much at all. I still have seizures. I have been on many different kinds of meds and I'm now seeing a neurosurgeon and it looks like I may have either another surgery to possibly resect the part of the brain that my seizures are coming from. So my surgeon is leaning towards my getting RNS or DBS which are two of the newest surgeries available that involve devices similar to pacemakers for the brain that involves non-invasive surgeries. So I'm very hopeful that one of these will work for me because my seizures have never been able to be controlled with just meds. So when I hear people say that epilepsy can be cured with herbal remedies, I'm sorry but to me that's obvious hogwash. Epilepsy is far too complicated to be cured with herbs and, like I said, it's not a one size fits all condition that can be cured so easily. I've had seizures since I was 14 years old and I'm 63 now and still hoping for a procedure that will stop my seizures to improve my quality of life. Ive driven a lot, legally, even with seizures but have had several BAD accidents and at this point I consider myself lucky to still be alive and so fortunate that I haven't hurt anybody. The struggle is real🫤 Keep the faith! Medicine has advanced by leaps and bounds over the years for people with epilepsy. I wish you all the luck in the world 😊

Has anyone ever been on CBD oil and gotten off of it? Like what was the change for you because that crap is expensive and hard to understand of what to do when you are getting off of CBD or western "medications" it is hard living with epilepsy because you have so many to deal with it is like which one do I need for life without breaking the bank. It is not fun. Enjoy your lives while you have it. It is s sometimes. That is how life is.
