This happened to me once. First a bunch of spots appeared in my vision until all I could see was static, and background sounds progressively became louder and more like a ringing noise. It was terrifying. My friend was trying to talk to me but I couldn’t see her face or hear her clearly, I just remember thinking to myself ‘I need to lie down’ and then my head started dropping to the left and my boyfriend tried to hold me up as I was loosing balance. I remember falling on the floor and feeling extremely dizzy. They let me lie flat on my back on the concrete and the last thing I remember was feeling like someone was dragging me along the ground by my feet. My boyfriend says my eyes went glassy and my arms were very stiff for about 30 seconds before I regained consciousness. It felt like it only lasted a couple of seconds. When I was conscious again everything felt confusing and very sharp and crisp. They gave me water and a sugar cube to get my blood sugar levels up afterwards. Took me a couple of minutes to feel confident enough to stand up.

@@atrotheGreat question! I teach at a college and have witnessed many students have seizures, including the types I have. Also, my husband is an EMT and has demonstrated what I look like when I have them so I can recognize it in my students. Most neurologists will also demonstrate so you know. Some even film their patients who have them during medical study EEGs for teaching purposes (med school students).

I'm an epileptic since I was 12,and I'm 33 years old now. I've been having seizures all day yesterday and the last one was massive. I've bit my tongue, my lip, and I also peed myself. I don't always pee myself, but that's such a humiliating part of it all. Few days ago I had a seizure and i skinned my ankles on the carpet during the seizure. I have all types of seizures.But I always feel when the grand mal is about to happen, so that's good.

@@jessicatrickett5517 don’t feel bad. It’s not ur fault. U can’t control it. And I also experienced the same thing again just a few weeks ago in my usual Taekwondo class. I suddenly had a seizure and vomited. They called an ambulance for me and also gave me 2 rectal diazepams in front of everyone but luckily most didn’t stare. I felt super embarrassed knowing what had happened. I never went back to Taekwondo cuz of 2 things: 1 is that I’m super embarrassed and I’m just scared like idk what people will think of me. 2, is that the seizure was caused by an unknown reason but doctors THINK that it was lack of sleep so I don’t wanna risk it and go again cuz apparently b4 my seizure I was doing a very strenuous exercise for an hour straight which is very common every time I do Taekwondo so I can’t rlly do anything. I’m sad tho….Taekwondo was my dream ever since I was very young but I recently started cuz my mom tot I was just wasting time & money and stuff cuz I was learning ballet then and it was alr very expensive. Forget it. Ty for reading my story. Hope things got better for u :D Edit: oh and I also can’t even handle doing normal exercises at my own rate without feeling uncomfortable again. I think my epilepsy got worse or smth since my Taekwondo seizure lasted for more than 10 min with not much aid…

My oldies brother had this growing up. He passed away 15 years ago living on his own, he could of had someone to watch him, but he like to be more independent do think by himself. He had one, one night in his studio apartment fell off his bed and was face down on a pile of dirty cloth suffocated . Two or three days later we wanted to know if he was going to call us to see if he was ok , so we call the office of the apartment and they got some house keeper to go inside the apartment, they smell something strange he the janitor went into the bedroom were he was laying on the other side of the bed there dead from suffocated. That was 15 years ago now. So sad 😔🙏 my oldies brother had his first one at age 4. He died at age 35.

So I had these when I was in high school and they started randomly. One day I was healthy, the next I was having daily tonic seizures. I went to 3 different hospitals and none could find out why, after a I went to a children's hospital they discovered that I was having a side effect to Prozac, this side effect is known to happen in children and teens. After I stopped taking Prozac, the seizures stopped occurring daily. It took a few years for the side effects to completely stop. I'm not trying to chalk up tonic seizures to medication, I'm just saying that if you have a child or teen that's talking Prozac or any other kind of antidepressants and you notice seizures tell your doctor itmediately. It could be a side effect, but also get full tests just to make sure.

Just an FYI from 30 years experience, if you are prescribed any benzodiazepine specifically short acting ones like Xanax and Ativan never stop taking them cold turkey or I can promise you that you will experience one of these seizures. I've had so many of them over my lifetime a lot of times I can feel when they're coming on. Thanks mom for showing me the wrong way to deal with anxiety/insomnia. Now I'll never be able to come off this stuff and it doesn't even put me to sleep anymore unless I take like 4 mg at once when 1/2mg put me into a coma in the beginning

Hi Andrilo Thank you for your question. There are many different epilepsy medicines available. www.epilepsy.org.uk/info/treatment/uk-anti-epileptic-drugs-list It's not possible to say which is the best. They all work in different ways. When the specialist is deciding which one will best suit you, they will consider things like: • The types of seizure you have, as some medicines are only effective for certain types of seizure • Your age and sex • Your lifestyle • Any other medical conditions you have • Any other medicines you take Regards Diane Helpline Team

@Panda boy actually he had a seizure and while having it he was biting down on his tongue, causing it to bleed so he either choked on his own blood, or dies from blood loss. But the seizure most likely was caused be drugs.

Whats the difference about tonic clonic and tonic?
@epilepsyaction
@epilepsyaction 11 ай бұрын
Hi Thanks for your message. In a tonic seizures some or all of your muscles go stiff. If you're standing, and all your muscles go stiff, you may fall to the floor. Tonic seizures usually last a few seconds to a couple of minutes. We have more information about tonic seizures here: epilepsy.org.uk/info/seizures/tonic-seizures In a tonic-clonic seizure, first all your muscles go stiff, and if you’re standing you fall to the floor. Then your limbs jerk quickly and rhythmically. You may lose control of your bladder and/or bowels. Your breathing may be affected, causing a blue tinge around your mouth. Most tonic-clonic seizures last between 1 and 3 minutes. We have more information about tonic-clonic seizures here: epilepsy.org.uk/info/seizures/tonic-clonic If we can be of any more help, please feel free to contact us again, either by email, live chat or the Epilepsy Action Helpline freephone 0808 800 5050. Our helpline is open Monday to Friday 8.30am until 5.00pm and Saturday 10.00am until 4.00pm. www.epilepsy.org.uk/support-for-you/the-epilepsy-action-helpline Jess Epilepsy Action Helpline Team

@okeaguphilip240 he has what they call tonic clonic seizures, where one big one occurs and then clusters follow after that and I have to insert what they call a nayzilam spray ( like narcan) in his nose to calm him down.. and these types happen of nowhere and he gets no warning at least 4/ 5 times a month .. and he has really bad body spasms every day where they jerk his body and has numerous falls cause of this.. He had his first seizure in 2015 in.high school ,p.e. class and fell to the floor and had a concussion and it's been non stop ever since !!

hello my name is Sophie and here is my epilepsy story when I was a baby i had a febrile seizures i stopped breathing and turned blue my mom gave me mouth to mouth and by the time the EMTS arrived i stopped seizing . In pre k i would get angry and punch any thing that was in front of me that is when it was suggested that my parents should take me to a therapist. he took one look at me and said that I was having seizures he then referred me to a neurologist. At the at the age of 5 I was diagnosed with childhood absence epilepsy but have been seizure free since the age of thirteen and so was taken of meds which caused massive weight gain a hand tremor and memory loss. The point is meds are good up until a point an then it becomes a pill no pun intended. my triggers are flashing lights, specifically the transition from the out doors to inside a classroom getting too hot photo and recently sleep deprivation. my parents were told to treat me as a normal child and to see how fare I would develop and look at me now I have graduated high school with honors though I did hope for a regents diploma but after taking the algebra common core regent seven times starting out with a 40 and ending up with a 57 oh well. I start collage in July not august as you can infer I was not expected to do much of what I just mentioned The effects of my seizures is that i have orthotic because due to my seizures that i had straight feet at birth i also have a sensory processing disorder. i have low gross motor control and other motor issues as well. After my father died, it seems I have had a relapse if that is possible. i still have my absence seizure but it is not enough to put me on meds . i have been getting driving lesson and have 10 -20 seizures in the drivers seat. i take omega 3 cod liver oil liquid form as i can not swallow pills this helps decrease the too -small -to -medicate -seizures i have very small seizures that show up on the EEG as misfired neurons and the Dr. called them "flurries" so here is what my flurries are typically like i will become very spacey i can not interact with my surroundings i also felt locked in to place. i am completely aware my vision becomes like a tunnel and thing start to move or vibrate on there own an absent seizure lasts 1 second but these flurries can last 5-10 minutes.

Hannah Jeffrey With a tonic seizure as you see in this video your body just goes stiff as a board, tonic clonic yes at the beginning you go stiff but then you start convulsing in other words you start shaking due to muscles contracting. You can bite your tongue during tonic clonics too. Mine are tonic clonics.

Oh that's what I look like. I get 2 types. I don't know how or why but it happens. Does anybody know the name of the convulsing one. I just want to know what I look in these. Because I never know when I have them. Also from Experience, no point in talking we can't hear you. We won't remember anything other this which is why I am I an adult in my 30's who had found out in my l in my late 20's I get seizures. My little sister and I shared are room and aside from1 time where I was oddly conscious but family and me didn't think anything of it. My seizures happen when I sleep. She saw them all the time but my dad was crazy religious and took what my little sister as me being a demon. (I'm...not going into that part of my life) But I could only imagine how scary it is for a child to see sibling doing these things and not knowing what it is and just thinking that she weird and never telling the parents. It was until her daughter (my niece did what I did [it only happened twice] did my sister take her to the doctor and tell her that it was a seizure.) When she told me I was like...seizures? I don't get seizures, but my little sister started u lashing ALOT of stories did I realize. Oh shit! I get seizures and only 5 after that did I realize that it was. Because of my heart condition

@@borninthewrongtime6449 no OHNO. They are not the same I have had to deal with children with various seizures. And had student with grand Male. Grand mal will have them slouching over as though they have just passed o uh t into a deep sleep and eyes go to up. They do not tense up not do they convulse. At least not the 2 students I had to help out during these sessions. They both just slouched over. Tonice clonic is a tight clinch everything clench super tight to the point where you break your own teeth and shake.
