Jim Lamb demonstrating the Epiphone AJ220S for playability.
Review of the Epiphone AJ220S playing through a Yamaha MG124cx mixer.
This guitar, as played, has no electronics onboard.
Epiphone offers this guitar in a natural finish and sunburst (as shown)
There is an Epiphone model AJ220S CE if you want electronics onboard... CE stands for cut-away electric....

Great job , JIm ! Sounds so good that it makes it hard to justify spending 10X the $ for a Gibson , when the Epi sounds so good ! They have come so far in the last 20 years ! Owned a lot of Gibsons over the years , but I doubt I'll buy another one unless I win the Lottery !

So nice, great playing. Jim. I just bobbed onto a search here on yt, because I found one a few years ago on garbage day, the head was broke off and the guy must have kept it for the tuners and electronics(otherwise it could have been glued on) , eventually I made a new head out of maple and epoxy glued, JBwelded it on, and an aluminum cover, new tuners. Real nice guitar. Mike

This is much harder than it looks, most guitarist who play in this style use a thumb pick which frees up the other fingers to pick the melody while the thumb takes care of the bass side of playing. Jim is using a 'hybrid' style by using his thumb and forefinger to hold a flat pick which limits his free fingers to three.

@@manojkokane3365 buy a better guitar, I have this epiphone for a few years now, and it is still a shitty guitar. But hey what do you expect from an guitar under 500 $. A 200 dollar guitar can't be as good as a 2000 guitar
@joeoden5518
@joeoden5518 Жыл бұрын
what you say sounds obvious and was probably true 20 or 30 years ago. But those days are gone. Imported guitars made in modern factories are great values. Compare Epiphones to Gibsons and most critics will agree the $2000 Gibsons are superior. By just a little bit. Certainly not 10x better. I’ve been playing for 50 years and I still suck. But I’m very happy with my AJ -220s. I gave my Martin to my daughter.

manoj kokane I use Martin Marquee 10’s. If you are playing through an amplifier, set the tone for EQ.. the cut-away style reduces some of the natural low end sound... you may want to play through a nice amp with at least a 10 or 12 inch speaker... let me know how you work this out...

Got my new AJ220S. Beautiful guitar and nice size. Both the guitar size and neck width is smaller then a Martin Dreadnought, but bigger than a 00 size. Extra fret board length of the long scale makes upper scale chords much easier. Very comfortable guitar. Factory set up was close. Nut was perfect (1/64" at the High & Low E at the 1st fret). Saddle was good on the treble side (4/64" at the High E, B, G at the 12th fret), but Low E, A, & D was too high. A combination of tightening the truss rod and sanding the landing spots for those 3 strings brought it down to 4/64" on A & D, & 5/64 on Low E.) Stock strings were very bassy sounding (but good for Bluegrass) . I tried 80/20 Bronze strings, but they sound to raspy. Switching to D"Adarrio EXP-26 created a very balanced sound.

I, too, stunk, when I first started. My family told me I sounded better each day. I've been practicing for 66 years and still only know two songs, one is awful simple and the other is simply awful... I helped a fellow employee with a song he was struggling to find all the chord changes, I handed the lyric sheet to him with the chords written above each word where the chord changes were. He said, "I hate you", best compliment I ever had..I appreciate you, Huntington1234567, for taking time to listen. I'm hoping I can show more folks where the chords are!! Happy picking!!
