I think you are on a winner there Colin. Epiphone would do well doing more of their own designs rather than just doing cheap copies of Gibson models. A sweet instrument.

I've been looking at this whole Epiphone line (Coronet, Wilshire, and Crestwood). I have so many p90 guitars already and the fact that this one comes in white, I was leaning to the Crestwood. This review has made my mind for me. Thank you, Colin. I love all your videos. Best Guitar reviews on YT in my opinion. I look forward to watching every time a new one is posted!

Not sure if anyone else has said anything about the pickup codes - but here is my guess - P=Pro,- MH = mini-humbucker, N=nickel, HB = humbucker (seems redundant), N or B = neck or bridge, C = Crestwood.

Another great video Colin and I'm glad to see another Epiphone reissue featured. Makes you wonder why its taken them so long to get some of these guitars out considering how long ago they were originally made. The mini humbuckers sound pretty quacky on certain settings which is great. I've been really impressed with what Gibson/Epiphone have been doing with the brand in the last couple of years. The quality has gone up more than the extra cost. Epi seemed to me to have begun to realise that they have really something special in their back catalogue with so much history to drawn upon. We are seeing long forgotten guitars re-emerging for a new generation to appreciate. The guitar featured was pretty rare and difficult to get hold of back in the day. Btw I have an Italia 12 string with mini humbuckers and it sounds really good.

Ha good friend, you know I love your channel. In search of this Crestwood custom, I happened across this 2009 Gibson Les Paul Studio Deluxe in Heritage Cherry Sunburst. It’s waiting for me in Bradenton Florida. At Music Go Round. I didn’t see me buying a Gibson but this store has used guitars in beautiful shape. And for $1000.00 I had to buy it. Colin you can take half the credit for me finding this and buying it. I’ll be picking it up next week fingers crossed. Have a great weekend talk then…

Another cool guitar! I'm perusing your older films again while you're off working, Colin. I bought the Epiphone 150th Anniversary Crestwood Custom Electric Guitar in California Coral color 10 months ago. I love it. It came with a hard shell case, but the outfit cost nearly 2x as much as the one in the film. I went with the it for 2 reasons: I like the control layout on the later '60's models like mine, and I do prefer the bat wing headstock. That said, I would be happy with the one featured here.

I saw one of these in person for the first time last week and I was very impressed by the quality. Not Gibson level, but not the student level build that the price would suggest. I’ve been wanting a single P90 instrument and I think I’d be confortable buying a Coronet once Sweetwater gets more in.

The mini humbucker is the most underrated pickup. They take effects brilliantly, they do everything from swampy blues to shoegaze and maybe even metal. I've always wondered why the offset guys don't get into them more? The only person I've seen who really appreciates them is Josh Scott from JHS, his Relevator guitar is based on a Jaguar and it has minis and I think they really do make effects pedals sound 10% better, I think that guitar sells alot of pedals, cant believe the rest of the world hasn't caught up. Best kept secret in the guitar world I reckon.

@Barncaster1
@Barncaster1 2 жыл бұрын
The Gibson style mini humbucker was always excellent in the neck but often lacked grunt in the bridge. This dates back to when the factory had one spec for the pickup so identical impedance pickups were fitted neck and bridge. Depending upon application, this either resulted in a great sound in one position and an iffy sound in the other. Over the years, the industry has learned to wind position-specific pickups so there is no volume drop between positions. We see this on the Crestwood review here, and it sounds glorious. Given this approach, and some other tweaks, the minis I wind work very well. With some magnet array augmentation, they can approach the grunt of Firebirds, whose bobbins and baseplates they share.

That is one of the best vibrato designs I've seen! The cam on the thicker strings is bigger so that they drop pitch in sync with other strings so when you play a chord the whole chord pitches up and down without going out of tune and they've eliminatedthat keeper bar thing that you usually see on bigsbys...its brilliant, I want one of these!

I did a search and finally found the answer!!! The Epiphone TremTone vibrato has an asymmetrical roller so when you use the vibrato on chords it gives a "pedal steel guitar" effect. It looks like it can be changed to a symmetrical roller too, I wasn't going back down the rabbit hole to find out though!!!

Epiphone should do an Inspired by Gibson Les Paul Deluxe with those pickups. I've always loved the sound of mini humbuckers, and that Crestwood sounds absolutely incredible. Like others have mentioned though, they're scarce as hen's teeth in the shops or online, same with the Wilshire and Coronet from my experience. Hopefully when the pandemic supply chain mess eases up they'll be easier to find.

I like this design, including the 3+3 head with the "Epi T" badge. The Wilshire with the P90s I liked better, but what do I know. Between night shifts in the US Navy for 20 yrs. & at NYC Subway (the Underground) system now retired I'm still up most of the night, watching your videos. I enjoy the way you look at the guitars, like the average "Joe Blow". I've gone a little further than you have as I'm a model railroader, deal with easy electronics & have rewired all my guitars from stock. I look at guitars as 1:1 scale models. All guitars have had pups changed, all pots changed to CTS pots (from wear or better control). Try looking into changing the tubes (or switch to Yellow Jackets) in the Hot Rod Deluxe. to help tame the loudness of the amp. I changed tubes (still loud). Don't have that abrupt volume change at #2. setting. Plenty of KZfaq vids on this. Got hooked, became a subscriber.

I'm really impressed by the quality of this guitar and how reasonably priced it is. The tone of the mini humbuckers is wonderful, and it looks cool. What's to stop someone from going out and gigging with this guitar, especially if they're in a punk band? Terrific review!

Ah yes, Friday morning so it's coffee and a cig on the back porch and time to see what Colin's up to this week. Cool Epiphone, but I'd prefer if that clear pickguard with logo was a delete option. The sounds are wonderful. Cheers to all from Dallas!

The problem with this tremolo design is the break angle is too shallow. If you don't mind losing the tremolo, I suggest bypassing it next time you change strings. Just string it like a regular tailpiece. It increases the break angle over the bridge and the guitar comes to life. It changed mine dramatically for good.

Good tip that thanks Jay!… although i didn’t notice any problem myself maybe as I’m used to top wrapping and stretching string’s gently?

That guitar’s a secret weapon. I think this one of my most favourite of your reviews so far 🙂. Absolutely wonderful demo. Personally, I thought the Epi looked better without the pickguard. I’d have left it off and tippexed over the screw holes. I’d probably remove the little plaque on the vibrato too. The headstock’s cool. Cheers for this! 👍🏼

That guitar is killer! Congrats!! What's hilarious is I saw a new in box 2017 Epiphone SG Special in Ebony on eBay a few weeks back. The seller was a pawn shop that provided only a vague description but had a picture of the skew sticker with the model number on it that I had to lookup to know for sure what was in the box. The seller only wanted a couple of hundred bucks for it so I bought it. Turns out it has a beautiful almost black rosewood fretboard and a flawless gloss ebony finish. Kinda cool snagging a 5 year old guitar still new unopened in it's box including all the case candy. 🎸🎸🎸

I bought one based on your review recently had surgery and can't lift heavy stuff so my les pauls are ruled out at the moment so I decided to give this a shot as I will be going back to uni hopefully in a few weeks and needed a light guitar, I personally am meh on sg's but this caught my eye, decided to watch your review as I love the no nonsense reviews, it turned up today and I love it and immediatly started writing riffs and had all my friends asking me "what the hell is that" (endearingly) they think it's proper cool and have never seen a guitar like it. It sounds a lot more versatile than your standard humbucker and the pots are a class touch! I remember when I was a naughty school boy in detention all the time reading a guitar history book and this crestwood custom same colour and all was in it and I never thought I'd get my hands on one so it is slighty surreal for me haha. Also (once they come back into stock) do you plan on reviewing the noel gallagher riviera? I must admit a lot of the current reviews are total shit in terms of playing or any proper details so would love to see the working mans take, not the business salesmen approach.

"Forget all the other bullshit!" My thoughts exactly. That guitar sounded great over video. Another cool thing is that it's an Epiphone that's not trying to be a Gibson. That's a unique instrument.

Lovely guitar! Excellent review! Back on the day, I think it was 2012 or so, this Epiphone was for sale but in its faded white / cream colour but I couldn't afford it. I hope this instrument ever comes for sale in my country, I doubt it, but there's still hope! I'll buy it without hesitation. Cheers!

Thanks for reviewing the third in the "trilogy". I heard two complaints about the Tremotone. First, that it gets in the way when you reach for the knobs. Second, that the high E string tends to pop out of it's saddle because there is not enough of a break angle from the tailpiece. I'd like one or all of these reissues but I'd like to know which one is your favorite or which one you think is the best "bang for the buck". Sounds like you had fun jamming. Cheers.
@theguitaristas
@theguitaristas 2 жыл бұрын
Cheers man, as you saw I gave it a hammering and the E string stayed put 👍 Honestly I like them all... I think this one looks the best and they all do something different so tough to choose.... if you can get a $250 deal like mine the Wilshire wins bang for buck!

Great review, as usual. The only thing I would have added was a bit of playing where you wanged the hell out of the Trem system so we could a) hear what it sounded like, and b) see how stable the tuning was.
