Nice review , thanks guys . I’m stuck between this one (cherry) and a Gibson SG (cherry) . I’m 65 years old but I still feel the need to get that cherry 🍒 !

I have the identical model and it is first class. Yes, there were a couple of high frets and the neck relief needed adjustment, but all in all, it is a lot of guitar for the money and much, much nicer than a Gibson SG 50’s Tribute I used to own, which was neck-heavy and had a neck profile akin to a baseball bat. This one feels just right, sounds great and the satin neck finish is perfect.

Just bought a cherry one from MooreMusicGuitars yesterday, should be here Tuesday. Hope I can sleep between now and then!

Cool, enjoyed your vid brother! Wanted to share i decided to get one of the Epiphone SG also. However, 2 months now i’m still trying to get kinks out. I have been playing guitar for quite a few years and believe it or not i’ve been playing a Yamaha SA1100 for 33 years! Seriously, many many gigs on it. Never had fret work or anything major, other than replacing pods. 335 style. So you know the pain there. Anyway when the SG arrived, I realize there will be tweaks to adjust etc., action was super high, so decided to check the truss rod and it was very loose, frets on bottom of the neck needed filing done. Saving time i just wanted to mention i use 10’s always, after breaking the first string the first gig i used it, kind of broke my heart; i rarely break strings. So decided to try Elixir 9’s, not a preference just had a set. And now been playing stretching strings for a gig tonight, i’m getting a buzz fret sound on the first string from lower F-G#? I suppose i’ll just take It down to guitar center being i ordered it from them and pay a pro tech to check it out. I really like the tones and love the wide neck. Just can’t wait to use it!lol Please I don’t want to sound discouraging about this guitar, just wanted to share my experience getting one. As with any new guitar, i’m sure there are adjustments to make, so whoever is deciding to get one, might want to keep the loose rod in mind- God bless y’all, keep pickin’!

Almost as nice as the '61 Faded SG Elitist I used to own. But that one had the proper headstock angle and authentic bridge and tailpiece. Nice to see that Epi is upping their game, but their prices here in Canada make it more economical to buy a used Elitist or other Japanese Epi.

The LP 59 version is also amazing.

Use the lightest strings you can find and tune it super low or you'll need a fret job real soon.

What's the difference between a '61 and a "Pro". I ended up with a pro, and it looks a lot like the '61, same pick guard, controls and everything. But the volume buttons "pull out", which you didn't mention in this review so I don't know if the '61 does that. Does that mean different pickups as well?

I have seen so many of those with broken necks at the head and body joint I call them Epicbreaks now.. Perhaps they use a better grade of whatever wood that is that is Mohogandish from Asia. I know they claim to have improved them but I haven't had the urge for one.

Front strap location sucks. Drilled a hole through the top horn and changed it.

The best Epiphone high end Sgs are the Modern figured Customs and prophecy Models...so long Gibson don't let the door hit ya on the way out

At this point though you can get a minty used gibson 61 sg for $500 more.

Actually- les paul contract was up and as they say " the rest is history ". Gibson continues that bully attitude even to this day. Irony , the very same companies are building there guitars in the same country as epiphone .

That's the exact same one I bought. Right down to the color. Frets are trash.

Epiphone name means so much more than Gibson ever could..
