Thanks for this video Rich. I'm in my 50s and have only just started learning. I love the look of SGs, so I bought myself a cheap Stagg SG to give it a go. If I'm still playing by Christmas, going to get an Epiphone SG Standard, so this video has been very useful. No nonsense, good honest opinions. Thanks Rich, and glad you are back.

Hey Chris Glad it was helpful and good news there’s another budding guitarist. To keep your interest, it’s a tough learn after all, get some lessons asap and get in the right track. Get a practice routine sorted, little and often. Learn just one position of the major scale then you can play along to backing tracks , it’ll make it all worthwhile and more fun. I’ll do a little video for you and post it later

Very Cool, Thankyou. Stunning Guitar, Congrats. I was never an SG Fan, although Being an Angus Young, Duane Allman Fan, until I bought a 2011 Epiphone Black SG. WOW, such a fun guitar to play, and I now understand Gibson's SG sale pitch "The Fastest neck in the world". All the Best. Cheers

Sweet SG! Nothing wrong with having an SG to change things up a little. It's good to play on a different neck to broaden skills. Noticed the back carve at the horns are different than both of my SG's. Mine are carved but yours are not carved being flat instead. Looks like they have changed the shape for whatever reason. Cheers!

I’ve got a Vintage SG and love it BUT don’t like how I can see all that neck (where the top horn would usually be on a Strat) plays lovely though and was a bargain Nice vid Rich keep it going bro 😊

I think the fella your referring to is Colin from the guitaristas channel. hes based not to far from me in the leigh on sea southend area. great channel he as and comes across very honest with hes reviews. similar to yourself in that way rich but with a more in depth approach to it.

Welcome to the Sg club Richard! Even though this Sg is your 179th guitar, you're still normal coz you sell the majority of the ones that don't meet your fancy. I have a red Sg with gold hardware and it's a keeper until I find a deal on a black Gibson or a newer Epi Sg Custom. I tried the cream 3 pup Epi yesterday and found it extremely heavy. I prefer lighter guitars and played the new Pacifica standard plus & a Gibson LP Tribute & the new Gibson LP Modern lite and I want one lol. I'm allowed as I have only about 13 guitars at the moment. I love Colin's channel also by the way. Let's hear some AC/DC like riffs mate! Rock on!

This guitar looks great! The Alnico Classic Pros are decent humbuckers. I have a set in a 2023 Epi 335 and absolutely love them! You might just need a new wiring harness. New pots and caps usually does the trick BUT try lowering the neck pickup and raising the screws first.

It comes with CTS pots, replacing them would yield little to no improvement. The only things worth replacing are the switch (it is low quality) and, maybe, the caps (to a value that suits your needs). I have tried a few pickup sets in mine and the guitar really comes alive with better pickups. I went through 5 sets of pickups and settled on a Seymour Duncan High Voltage set. As a sideline I play in an AC/DC tribute band where one of my Les Pauls did backup duties for my main ('71 Gibson SG Standard). I bought my Epi SG Custom to take care of those duties but after a good setup and installing excellent pickups I play it as much as my Gibby now! At stage levels (read: cranked vintage Silver Jube through a 4x12) the Alnico Classic Pro pickups don't cut it: they lack some clarity, a lot of punch and, with some gain, become an undefined mess.

So besides real MOP inlays and watered down mystery wirings what is the difference between them anyways. The model here looks REALLY good very sharp.
