These are two budget friendly Epiphone semihollowbody guitars that suit different needs. The Riviera, with its third p90 and bigsby, offer a wider array of tones, while the Sheraton makes it a bit easier to dig into and offers more usability.

@@JackFossett You will, Jack, you will. That's one great thing about these guitars, they're not $$ prohibitive (mine was $650au a decade or something ago but in the U.S I'd be surprised if they're over $700us atm (especially with C19 it's a buyers market) and they're really consistent when it comes to quality. You'd be unlucky to find a dud. Those Koreans are very much like the Japanese when it comes to quality control.

Thanks for the excellent review and demo, Jack. My wife bought me a used Riviera Custom I'd spotted on Reverb (they're both keepers). It came with three Bare Knuckle P90s and a hardshell Gator case - a great bargain. I was interested in hearing the original Epi P90s, so your video is perfect. The BKs are grittier and less muddy, I think, but the Epis still sound very good. I always wanted a guitar with P90s, and this is such a versatile and classy answer to my prayers - I love it!

This is a really excellent review and comparison. I love your playing and your mix of styles to show the versatilty. I own a Sheraton II and really learnt a few things from your video and the other one you have. Basically I mainly play British indie and the Sheraton is just insane with a Cry Baby Wah and a Boss overdrive. You can really go mental with that combination.

Nice Vid Jack! I prefer the Sheraton myself. I have a LH Sunburst II from 2010 and just Love it. I play In a Blues Band and a Classic Rock Band and feel it sounds at home in either. Back in the ‘60s I had a Cheery Broadway in think it was called, with Floating Bridge and Loved that one also. But I Love my Sheraton II LH. Epiphone told me they would NEVER AGAIN make a LH Version of the Sheraton so I’m hangin on to it and the HSC. Great Review and Demo! Please keep up the Good Work and Love your Tune also!! Had a P93 that had squeaky pickups and yep, the Bigsby on them sucks. My Sheraton is a 1988 (Epiphone By Gibson) that got new electronics back in the early 90s (Gibson 57 Classic pickups, good Grovers, Gibson pots and switch, output jack). Still playing it around 30 years later. It's one of the early Samick Korean ones. Not real hip on the redesigned headstock of the newer ones.

Beautiful playing - thank you! The tone of the Riviera suits the song; it sounds a more warmer, buttery. The Sheraton II on the other hand, is brighter and more aggressive sounding. Surprising - as I thought they would sound completely opposite each other. With that said, I just ordered a Riviera Custom P93 with Epiphone hardshell case. (Epiphone should send you a commission check! LOL).

Went for the Riviera...the Bigsby & the warmth & tonal variety did it for me. I'm a fairly light-touch player so the closeness of the pickups not such a big deal for me. Not so interested in the more overdriven tones as I have other guitars for that, mainly wanted a warm-sounding jazz semi to complement my setup

I never liked the staggered tailpiece arrangement on the Riviera but that Bigsby overcomes that. Still prefer the Sheraton though but the Casino trumps both of 'em.

I’ve had my Sheraton for 22 years, and it holds itself well against more expensive guitars. The only complaint I have about it is if you have a problem with the Jack or switch, you have a really awkward job taking them out and putting them back through the f-hole.

I prefer the Riviera hands down. Just has a much warmer tone . I've just got one . Had a Sheraton it was beautiful. But the Riviera is just better . Even though it is the most awkward guitar to string up. The bigsby tremelo is excellent.

I bought the P93 Riviera to replace my standard Riviera, cos they literally stopped making it. Now the standard is back and this one kinda bums me out! Ah well. It’s still a gorgeous guitar, just miss those mini hum buckers. If any standard Riviera owner happens to fancy a swapsies, now that the P93 is discontinued, I’m your dude 🤙

I've had my P93 Riviera for about 3yra. I'm 72 ....been playing since the 60s... Have had many fine top brand top model guitars. The Riviera is to die for. Period. The neck and PUPS are LUCIOUS. A delight to even touch.

For my birthday my gf was going to chip in $600 towards a new amp but she played the Riviera in the store and when we left I said you know, you can take that $600 and grab that used Riviera if you want. I won't be getting that $600 but a nice dinner (and a new guitar to borrow) instead.

The Riviera has a warmer sound and nice slightly brighter biting tone when the middle pick up is rolled in. Prefer it.

Problem is when you roll the middle down. Becomes very muddy.

Think I might fork out the extra money and go with Sheraton. I was thinking of P93, but having the bigsby is gunna be problem with tuning etc. The Sheraton might the one I get

Just the comparison I was looking for. I have the Sheraton 2 pro, I'm looking at the Riviera, disappointed that the tremolo bar isn't stable. I like the looks of the Riviera better. Might trade for one anyway. Both great guitars for the price , iv been wanting the 335 look. Thanks much. It gave me some good tips. Great playing there too. Subscribed.😊

I'm in the process of buying a Sheraton II Pro right now (on layaway). As soon as you put the guitars through an overdrive effects pedal, it messes up the comparison. Your playing is tasteful, and they both sound good in this video.

The quality control on these particular Rivieras were not uniformly good. When I worked at Guitar Center, it seemed approximately 30% had neck binding delamination issues right out of the box where the neck met the nut and headstock. Otherwise, I loved and still love a three-P90 feature, and I’d still like to have one of these that did not have the issue I referenced, above. I have an old Sheraton, and I dearly love that guitar with its slim neck profile that the newer ones don’t have, and amazing playability of this guitar.

I'm a long time Sheraton II owner and find it a more flexible guitar than the Casino or Riviera ever could be, pushing into Les Paul dirt with ease.

I would highly recommend a Epiphone Sheraton guitar they are great guitars and feel great. Epiphone makes really good guitars. As long as you don't get their very cheap stuff.

What about the build quality of Sheraton II / Riviera P93 and Casino? Are those guitars comparable in terms of the finish flaws, fret edges, etc.? Currently I'm struggling about which one to chose as the pricing is pretty similar and I don't have the opportunity to check it in a music store so it will be an online order. Thx in advance for sharing your thoughts!

I love my P93 and it was well put together except for one issue with the Bigsby which unscrewed and came off. I found a great guitar shop and gave it to them for a setup which I didn't do when I purchased it online. The tech was amazing and the Bigsby felt way better. So I think there could be some issues there but a good setup from pro that knows Bigsby's you should be good.

@@JackFossett What do you think of the position of the middle pickup volume knob? I would personally prefer it if the bridge volume knob was there, and the middle volume was back. Actually, I would prefer the bridge volume knob to be where the neck volume is, bring down the neck volume knob down to where the middle volume knob is, and push the middle volume knob down and back, out of the way for normal use.

Hey Jack, have you got an original Riviera? It would be something to watch a comparison between the first one and the current one. I owned a Sheraton II (as I’ve written elsewhere) and successfully used it in hi-gain context. They’re underrated in that context.

The Bigsby has a tuning issue, no matter the price range of the guitar and what you throw at it. What guitar would y'all recommend for tremolo playing... something in the Fender line?

Can the Sheraton II be converted to a pro with a change of pickups and knobs with taps. Are those the only differences?

This guitar is really a Sheraton/ES style guitar with 3 P90 pickups so you'd have to do some wood cutting to fit in the third pick up plus rewire to have the selector switch activate it.

@@mitchellcutler2888 I did get the Sheraton II pro, lovely guitar but... now the semi-hollow journey has let me to desire an arch. Looking into the modern arch tops from Ibanez. GAS. I guess. Don't know if I will keep the Sheraton II pro since I am basically using it as a jazz guitar. lol

I have seen these models that over time I will try. IBANEZ AS93 or AS193. The fact that you have a fender tweed amp means you know what your talking about. Every time I hear someone say I don't like the fender tweed amps I just immediately don't take anything else seriously that they say because they have no ability to discern good tone.
