I've covered a number of different jungle cacti on this channel, but this may very well be my first Epiphyllum in "365 Days of Plants" and it takes the 166th spot. Known as "Queen-of-the-night cactus", Epiphyllum puts out some pretty bodacious blooms in the evening hours-an evolutionary strategy to attract night-pollinating insects.
In this video I'll cover where this is native to, how it grows, where it grows, and best conditions for lighting, watering, fertilizing and more.
You can check out more of these videos here and on my IGTV @homesteadbrooklyn.

I just got some trimmings from my cousin and some off my mom's plant. We are the third generation to keep this particular species going from my grandfather's plant. Super honored to be apart of the tradition. All my mom and her sisters got their original plant off their fathers. And all my cousins and I have trimmings off their plants. The flowers smell is so amazing cannot be described. When we had blooms I remember as a kid staying up as a family to watch out open and smell it. This plant is super special to me. ❤️

I was given a leaf of this from a planty friend, and she told me to mist a pot of soil, and simply lay the leaf on top and it will grow roots. I kept the soil most the first few weeks, and kept it under my grow lights (off to the side, not directly underneath) and it seemed like nothing was happening. I decided to give up, and when I tried to lift the leaf, it was firmly rooted in, with little babies growing underneath everywhere! Very easy plant to maintain. Mine is fine if it dries out some, but it likes to be kept moist by placing moss on top of the soil - then even more babies form!

Mine is planted in a pot of soil and has been placed underneath our avocado tree. The vine has climbed up through the tree and has recently bloomed for several nights.

Wow, I don't have this Epiphyllum, I do have 5 different Christmas and Thanksgiving cactus, one being about 20+ years old, the others around 15 years. I love those and if I ever saw this variety I would have to get it. They all have different color blooms, one is pink, one is white, one is orange, one is red, and the last one is dark pink. Thanks for enlightening me on another species of these plants, can't wait to see what tomorrows plant will be.

This is considered as so sacred in India since it connects to Lord Brahma so people worship it when that blooms.

I just got some small cuttings of this about a week ago, and I'm so excited! It will probably take a few years to grow in size, but I'm starting with rooted cuttings, so I should have a good chance of success.

I have a friend that have one that is huge because is really old and one time it flowered 22 giant flowers and it was a great show. It becomes really long and big and they have it in a balcony with not direct sunlight and they keep it there all year because we live in Puerto Rico 🇵🇷, a tropical climate.

I have one that's almost 6yrs old, it's almost 3 metres in height. Today I found out that the main stem has been eaten away by ants and they are using the pot as their home😣😣😣 The plant is not at all healthy and I think the roots are also gone because as soon as I removed the ties that supported it, the whole plant started uprooting😅 What should I do? I do have a baby plant that I got from this same plant. Is there a way I can save the main plant??? The stem has roots coming out of it, I was wondering if I can snip those pieces with the roots intact and set them for rooting.

Hello, as said previously in this comment section, this might very well be an Epiphyllum pumilum. But don't worry, the flowers are nicely fragrant, pretty, and they last longer than E. oxypetalum flowers.

How do you track the watering schedule for the weekly and 10 days or monthly schedules. I usually end up with at least one over watered plant
