The Mercado Lazaro Cardenas is pretty standard as far as markets in Mexico City go. But turn one corner and suddenly you’re in a different world: The world of coffee geeks, of which Rick is a proud citizen. The Passmar Cafe Finos stall brews espresso with natillas and cappuccino with blue curacao using unique brewing methods and award-winning baristas, and Rick geeks out in the best possible (caffeinated) way. Fully charged on caffeine, Rick’s ready for a cocktail. So he pays a visit to mixologist Joseph Mortera, who takes Rick through a couple of his delicious creations including a mescal cocktail made with fresh hoja santa leaves and absinthe. Next up: Ricardo Nava, a bartender at Polanco’s sleek bar Limantour, who shakes up his margarita by using mescal, pineapple juice and hot chile. Lucky for us, Rick makes cocktails with herbs from his garden plus some very tasty snacks in his home kitchen.

WOW just WOW! Chef Bayless and his wife Deann have produced some really terrific tv, book, and YT presentations BUT Episode 1007 is without a doubt thoughtful, nuanced and memorable; especially the garden insights. Long Live Chef Bayless and Deann Bayless!

Rick! This was a really fun and interesting episode. I want to try the garden margarita. I have my own (weekend)breakfast drink, a combo of fresh vertida mix, tequila, ice, lime and prosecco or champagne in a chamoy and tajin rimmed glass. But I think the cilantro salt is absolutely brilliant! Thanks Rick!

I would so love for you to give the recipe for the margaritas at the San Angel Inn! I think it won't be AS good without the ambiance, but I would dearly love to make one and reminisce!

Rick as someone who appreciates mexican food and culture as much as you do im a little suprised at your tequila choices. Id love to show you some info sometime and give you some recommendations. A lot of those big brands that you pour have basterdized and altered the original idea of what tequila is.

I enjoy Damiana liqueur as part of a a margarita. I suppose you could just grow the Damiana herb and muddle some in?

Just a tip for ewe "social" drinkerz🍸. Keep shaking until the shaker gets frosty man, frosty. Only then will it be properly chilled -- and "deluded." 🍸🍸🍸
