Finally! Thank you! Someone who sees and shows and tells so beautifully. Electricity doesn’t come from the walls - it comes from or through plants and people :) Sorry I’m just so excited about everything you say, glued yo your podcasts and I’m not even a farmer. But considering now 😄 Can you please tell me what would be the effect on the plants (in their current condition) and people with this new electrical car charger wave? Somehow I feel it isn’t all so easy peasy. Shouldn’t the plants and people be healthy first? Feels like we’re coming at it from a weird angle yet again.

From my perspective, it creates chaos. That's what disturbing the cycles of the earth does in general as well as in our bodies.

Great episode and I love this topic. It is so fascinating to get more nuanced beyond just aerobic soils. Looking forward to setting aside some time to go through the redox webinar series. I'd love to hear you and/or John talk with Dr. Christine Jones about quorum sensing and auto-inducers within this subject matter. She is advocating for using an extract of a fermented compost, not for the organisms but for their communication molecules called auto-inducers. I haven't been able to figure out why these would be more abundant in a fermented product and possibly vermicastings opposed to an aerobic compost. A friend tried to explain the possible chemistry where the aerobic decomposition is more energy intensive than the anaerobic fermentation...but it went over my head. I've also recently come across some research from Germany that a worms gut has various anaerobic fermentation process in it and went so far as to call earthworms anoxic microsites within soil! Fascinating!

Yes looking forward to his talk on "polycover" - polyculture of ground covers by Dr Christine Jones. I wish to know what groundcovers or weeds have reducing rhizosphere, leading to healthier crops, best that John can elucidate.

@@otivaeey he mentions them specifically here at 54;49....and explains that it's reduction performance is based on the microbial preferences of the plant as well as the plants proclivity to invest exudates into the soil along with the photosynthetic capacity and its efficiency in performing the homeostatic redox response to maintain its preferred environment ......to my knowledge all plants are reductive because photosynthesis itself is a reductive process...its just some perform better than others....this is how we can safely say that as long as you have a plant growing and the soil isn't bare you doing good kzfaq.info/get/bejne/grpyja6gu8mscYk.html

Great talk! I'm thinking you and John should get together...weekly? ; ) I'm wondering if there's any theory on what is supposed to be happening naturally in the air/ atmosphere around plant leaves that would give them this benefit from foliar applications? If Dr. Reames was able to get plants to grow so much faster with sprays, how fast are plants SUPPOSED to grow? And if plants have nothing like an endocrine system, what's stopping nut and fruit trees from producing in their first year?

Great interview, new info on foliar sprays/feeds for me. SUPER important to increase photosynthesis as we enter a solar minimum/grand solar minimum as the solar power will be reduced so we will need to find some way to continue growing food.

Mind blown on the slightly-anaerobic idea. 🤯 So, does the Johnson-Su Bioreactor method produce these optimal conditions, or Matt, what is your method of making compost now? I just started a pile yesterday, and now I don’t know how to proceed with it. Help!

@ThePermacultureStudent
@ThePermacultureStudent 4 жыл бұрын
@@pawelk3702 Worm compost is totally different from a static mouldering pile, just as hot compost is also completely different. Vermicompost is primarily bacterial dominant BUT it's even more than that. They physically change the structure of the compost which changes its behavior - plus everything is going through their digestion which is a specific process and creates a semi-uniform product (worm castings have ranges of pH and Eh). Hot compost oxidizes everything which releases a lot of the nutrients into the air and turns the nitrogen forms into nitrates which are needed in a balanced amount - if you add too many in an oxidized, alkaline, bacterial mix, you can shock your soil and even push the pH more alkaline which is AWFUL. Lots of caveats and paths through these methods too - you can make fungal compost tea and even fungal "hot" compost though not how you'd expect I'm sure hehe - time is another factor that has come back to haunt folks in this. We can't have instant compost and have it be the best. Ok so there's reasons right? He's amish and collectively we'd all assumed he didn't do photos/video - in fact, folks pointed out that this video revealed his face and were upset, so I blurred it out at that time. Then the only likeness online of him was a drawing of John until he appeared on video for a talk with R-Future the conference I hosted in Jan 2021. Since then I think he's on videos more openly. He's like the Thomas Pynchon of the Regen Ag community ;) (my English majors will know what I mean...)

Or maybe he was Amish, now a free man. And I thought Amish cannot use herbicide and chemical technology because those are technology! But he was in a chemical farm upbringing. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
