Cropredy is where Fairport Convention holds a music festival every year....since 1976.....Ridge and Furrow added to the overall surface area of the land so more crops could be grown.....the ridge also aided in draining water.....

can you not use a post office for deliveries...have heard other canal vloggers talk about picking stuff up from a nearest PO...and you can get deliveries from Tesco et al to a point such as a pub....again other vloggers have said that...Fairport Convention have a festival at Cropredy every year...Ridge and furrow is a form of ploughing that first appears in Britain shortly after the Romans left, and lasted well into the 17th century. In those times, groups of animals (oxen or, later, horses) pulled a single-sided plough which turned the soil over to one side. This side never altered, which is why the ridge of soil was able to build up....it also increased the land area...

Well done glad you have rented the cottage to a house keeper, a gardener, and a handyman when we tried that we paid them, "Must be doing something wrong". Soap nuts, never heard of before and can only suggest Richie looks carefully at Frans next Walnut sponge just to make sure. Can you use the nut bags in the shower ?

We have a twin tub on our boat and my husband put a plinth over the shower tray so I can do all the washing with it in situ then it's near the shower for water and can pump out directly underneath. It's handy to just spin any hand washing as well. We just lift it out when we want to shower. It works well. Great video as usual. I'll try the soap nuts

Brought back memories of a boating holiday out of Upper Heywood in October 2019. We wondered about the boat in the field, now we know. We found a lot of the locks quite tough to open. The canal trust were going to close the canal down a week later for lock repairs. Loving these vlogs, Happy boating to you both.

Looking forward to future vlogs as you make the boat your own. I think Rich your looking better and am I being presumptuous from one belly to another that your losing a bit of weight. Instead of soap nuts you can also use chestnuts (horse chestnuts). You just have to collect them in autumn, cut them in small pieces and let them dry. Then store them in an airtight container or glass and whenever you do laundry, take a few chestnuts, soak them in water for 30 minutes and use the water (without the nuts) to wash your clothes. I do this for years and it works great.

Fran you may want to read up on the soap 'nuts' if they are the same as what we have in Asia/pacific region(they are actually a fruit like a lychee and the trees look similar),l think you will find they are highly toxic to fish and other marine life . In Asia in the small remote villages they boil up huge vats of them to kill the fish when they are cleaning out the fish farm ponds and gutters etc .l have watched them do it when we did a motorcycle ride through Asia,it smells like a weird vinegary sweet smell like fermented fruit when boiled up and is very effective at stunning/killing the fish . Here in Australia the aboriginals use them and a similar native plant to catch fish in Billabongs as they rise to the surface under its effect, they are supposed to be good in a septic system as the waste water from them has a lot of the good enzymes for helping a septic along but l dont think they are any good for draining directly into water ways you may want to check, people sometimes forget some of a worst poisons come from nature so just because it is natural does not mean it is safe for everything. There are many commercially sold 'safe' boating cleaners safe to go overboard, if you check out any of the yachting/cruiser sites you should be able to find locally recommended/available ones. Even though that sticky lock was a pain it was a beautiful spot and you have to admire the workmanship in those rock walls. That mooring looked like the perfect spot on a sunny day.Happy cruis'n

Hi guys I’ve watched 14 of your vlogs really enjoying them. I use soap nuts all the time there great and make clothes really soft. My hubby and I have sold our house and buying a new home downsizing and hopefully travelling after years of working and renovating houses. Just as we are taking early retirement we’re in lock down and can’t move house just in limbo waiting. Were vegan and into the environment have two dogs also. I’m fed up at the moment as we just want to start our new life and can’t. Plus both been ill with we think the dreaded C. Hubby has been coughing badly and I’ve just got rid of mine. Your vlogs are keeping me going thinking of better days to come. Love what your doing enjoy. Peace 🧚🏻‍♀️

Great video! I find them so relaxing and interesting. If you are going eco and don’t want to contaminate the canal water, have you thought of using Ecover washing up liquid? I noticed you had some of the bright yellow stuff and while it is cheap, it is bad for aquatic life. We have been using Ecover for years, for all our washing and cleaning needs and it is amazing stuff! Most supermarkets sell it, although you generally get more options at health food shops.

Beth Pearse Hi Beth. Well spotted! We usually do have ecover but occasionally we can't get it and slip up. We buy it in bulk for the cottage so will replace this as soon as we can. We also use natural cleaners like vinegar and baking powder whenever we can. Thank you for watching and commenting Fran

Hi.. at Elkington Lock No 22? Bridge 148, 10:40 into your vlog, Fran is struggling with right hand gate paddle. She is on the wrong side of the gate, if that windless slips she might full back into the cut or worse full down the steps behind. Wind the over side of the balance beam.

Plus one on that. I bought a ratchet windlass, pretty costly and the wife mocked me, but now she pinches it when she has a tough lock to do - or more often she sends me up to do the difficult ones. The ratchet makes a huge difference on a tough paddle - there's always that spot on the circle where you are at the wrong angle and you can't get a good pull on. With a ratchet you can just pull repeatedly at the angle where your muscles are at their best advantage.
