Late to your channel, but just absolutely loving it! So much so, that I decided to go back to all episodes in order and have been liking each and every one! Great work! Has anyone ever told Fran she’s a dead ringer for Helen Mirren? Maybe they’re related! I’m a Yank whose goal is to live over there and be a continuous cruiser (my mum is a British citizen) so wish me luck! I also watch your new videos when they come out so keep up the great content! 🙌🇬🇧👏

Yeah baby! Loved the dancing! The world needs more of that for sure! Very impressed with Fran's skills going through that lock. Love seeing the dogs running along the towpath. I have dogs, not water dogs, so always interested in how boat dogs stay safe. Do you have an emergency kit for them too? Really enjoy seeing Fran's weaving/ loom work too. Very interesting. Beautiful video. Thank you so much for sharing your journey with the world.

Jayne Just Thank you for your comments. The dogs are getting better at not falling off the boat but we keep them locked in the boat most of the time cruising, especially in locks. Archie is a good swimmer now so is ok, but we have to watch Jess although she is the more agile dog. We decided against life jackets as I'm worried about them getting snagged. They have both learnt from mistakes and are more cautious now. Fran x

Re: the engine revs, just a quick comment to add to the mix; we've hired a couple of times and each hire company has recommended keeping the revs at 1000 to 1200, which we did, and both boats moved well at that engine speed. Another very enjoyable vlog, thank you.

If you’re gonna paint the hull then I would recommend getting that new engineered paint made for boats that all big tankers & cargo ships are using that makes the boat much more slippery thus increases speed and improves fuel economy. Apparently it also helps keep things from growing on the hull. Don’t know if that happens much in canals but is a huge problem for ocean going boats. Best of luck

hi you lovely people also don't forget my scarf as well.. with lots of orange in it.. as for your engine maybe over revving ,...could be because your prop is the right one ..just worn down. the friction of it turning in the water does wear the prop down. so it get smaller and does not bit the water as much witch in turn makes the revs go up.. but your find out more when its out of the water. some good chandler can tell you what your prop size should be by your hull length and swim... there tell you the size and then maybe you can measure the diameter of you prop through your weed hatch this then may rest your mind...you will not be able to measure the pitch but you can do this when your out the water. hope this helped you a bit more.

A really enjoyable all-round video. What is it about shopping trolleys and canals? (The Tiller People, Keith & Bernadette, posted a beautiful video the other day that showed a shopping trolley or 2 ditched under a bridge). Just by the way, they have re-blacked their hull with 2-pot epoxy. More expensive than bitumen but considerably more durable, and easy to keep looking great. No softening and peeling away at the waterline to let rust attack the hull. I've used a similar epoxy on my wooden kayaks. These unfilled or (for surface coating products), fibreglass-filled epoxies, are excellent, and really worth thinking about. We've got friends over from NZ on a hireboat on the K&A right now near where you are. I'll email them and if they see you, suggest they stop and say hi. Like you, they are lovely, friendly easy-going people. Cheets from NZ.

Hi guys, yes, a shopping trolley is not the best thing to bump into ... got to keep a lookout in some areas. We have had a 2-pk epoxy on from when our boat was built. In 2018 we had another 2-pk epoxy treatment applied, one with glass flake reinforcement ... It may be useful to check it out 😃👍 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/f8qJmqeb1tDDf3U.html

G'day from Down Under. Enjoying all of the videos. We did the Kennett and Avon Canal last year from Devizes to Kintbury and return, and had a great time. Back in 2014 we did the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal, which is much narrower and the locks are nowhere near as fierce as on the K&A.Had a look at your Holiday Cottage on AirBNB and was surprised to find that its not far from Bucknell. We stayed in a beautiful B&B at Chapel Lawn whilst travelling around Herefordshire and Shropshire last year.Planning our next trip to the UK, which will be in 2019, so that the wife can catch up with family. Haven't decided what canal to do, maybe the Stratford Upon Avon. Any suggestions?Keep up the great work with the videos!

Hey guys. well figured it out .I love to watch your videos, as the thing that stands out for me is you two are my sister and her husband to the T . And there's me thinking they were one off's . .Are well. Anyway when you were talking about how the banks are over grown, and I know that it it not your job to do it. ,but I would have me a petrol weed whacker, and when coming across a problem like that . Just hop off and either do a length of the boat or just the bow/stern . that way A . easer to morr up and B easer for the dogs to see what they are doing. Just a thought. As for the prop . I personally would get the box and clutch checked as well, wouldn't hurt. one less thing to be concerned about latter.

Rich have you checked your fuel filters, injectors, fuel lines for leaks and blockage etc? a sudden lack of power under load is more commonly a fuel/injector issue, especially as the slopping about from waves and wakes of boats on the Thames may have stirred up silt/fuel contamination off the bottom of the fuel tank. It would seem very strange if the previous owner had not noticed a lack of power etc over their time of owning it and not mentioned it , if it was a incorrect prop/pitch issue.I have said it before but l recommend you get a workshop manual for you specific engine ie a Haynes, Gregorys etc.I am a diesal mechanc but still have them for all my personal machinary on the farm as well as my boats over the years. They are a cheap piece of mind as they give trouble shooting info, parts and tools needed for any work on the engine and correct part ID for replacement etc as well as proper maintenance schedules .They will pay for themselves 10X and give a lot of piece of mind with the ability to trouble shoot and repair yourself when away from any help. It also takes a surprisingly small amount of weed/debris on a prop/tiller to affect the boats performance, also if you had a lot of weed issues don't forget to check your bow thruster tubes as well (if you have them ).If you are in a bad weedy area it helps to run the boat in reverse for a sec and work your tiller from side to side to clear any weed foul,we do it as a matter of course before running through a bit of tiger country or rapids.Dont forget you were also fighting the tide on the Thames which makes a lot of difference if you are not use to it as well.A good way to do a check is document a few different runs with a GPS reading off your phone etc comparing rev's to actual speed then a call to one of the good boat yards would give you a rough diagnosis over the phone, but they have to be given the actual proper read outs using the info provided by using the GPS to accurately measure it. Great news on the knee coming good make sure you pay attention to the physio advice since it is working so well ,we all know us fella's are renowned for ignoring the medical advice .The new cabinet suits the boat especially now it has its Nick Nacks in place and the Hops. One of the worst school holiday jobs l ever had was Hop harvest on a small holding, we did it all by hand with a draught horse and wagon and were covered with falling spiders and biting bugs,l have taken my revenge by drinking as many Hops as l can manage at every opportunity :) That was some fancy brickwork on that little bridge with the false openings, you have to admire the old school workmanship on display on the canals all hidden as you drive over in a car .Happy Cruis'n and give the dogs a pat from us.

Hi Daryl -sorry we didn't reply sooner but your comment went the spam folder! Thanks for your welcome advice. We will look online for a Haynes manual - we've discovered that the rev counter is on the blink as no two days are the same... discovered this with gps app on phone. We hope to have the boat out the water over winter for a week maybe and get these niggles sorted - Rich P.s. There's some lovely hop-based drinks here in Wiltshire :)

Thanks for watching. The only setbacks I can see are the first few miles of locks as you go up are pretty fierce so you'd have to really take your time. There is not much Armco to more up to and you need to deploy the gang plank regularly and of course there's Caen Hill locks but generally there are plenty of volunteers to help you through. Rich.
