Күн бұрын

In yet another deep-dive double-header, ROAR: The ‘90s Rave Podcast meets the man behind the mask as we really get to know the real MARK ARCHER in the ALTERN 8 icon’s most in-depth interview yet.
In part 1, the surprisingly introverted producer and DJ talks of his ‘accidental’ success with BIZARRE INC, NEXUS 21 and and the famous PPE-masked duo, coming through the house and techno scene that saw him work with Detroit legends before helping to create that famous early hardcore sound, and secretly playing live PAs on ironing boards. Plus Mark compares the political situation from the early ‘90s to now, given his involvement in the #WeAreViable campaign, and reveals a previously undisclosed penchant for bird-watching!
The second and final part - where he discusses the highs of becoming a Top of the Pops star, the lows of his later financial struggles, and he addresses rumours of having beef with THE PRODIGY - coming next Friday!

The comment about not being viable makes my blood boil man. Not viable for what? To contribute to their coffers? Shows how detached the government is from social values in the country they are at the helm of. Top man Mark and massive respect for your contributions to our beloved scene. Please to anyone reading, do not ever vote Tory.

Live entertainment has really suffered over the last 15 years or so with licensing, competing against home entertainment (and arguably in part to the smoking ban). I really hope when social distancing is finally lifted people put down the Netflix (now that they've watched everything) and get back out there whether it's sitting in a pub watching a young singer with a guitar, going out to see local bands through to clubs, festivals, theatres and raves.

Before venues shut down streaming has played a part. Recent years musicians performing is there only source of income.. But it, oh, no that's illegal. Geeez.

Will never forget the Altern 8 tracks, some of the first electronic dance music I remember hearing & enjoying, I was still at school and my dad was a club dj in the Midlands, used to get stuck in back rooms behind stage when my dad played sets, really wanted to meet Altern 8 & my dad made this possible, I was still very young & was shit scared of the masks.

Top interview with great details of what went on for him at that period. 👍 Not gonna lie, very surprised that Mark didn't get on it back in the day. I know these interviews are proving that many artists never did indulge when you assume the majority did at least dabble but a member of Altern 8 is not one I would have guessed in any way tbf. His book is at the top of my list. Roll on part 2...

Back in 1991, I bought a copy of Keith Suckling & a P.A. by Altern8 live at Amnesia House from a clothes shop in Brum. A carrier bag would come from under the counter full of copied tapes of different dj's & Raves of the time, Me & my mates searching through the bag like kids in a sweet shop, ha ha

The current situation made me think of the Government vs the rave era did spring to mind. Regarding filming at gigs, well reason that is because not much gets released to buy. That's why at one point bootlegs were everywhere.. I would rather artists official release stuff.
