Great series and I tend to avoid chiming in on any of this because I wasn't there and I don't know their SOPs but since people are making a thing of it, firefighter safety is critically important. I have 12 years as a firefighter, 7 of which I was an EMT and have managed to avoid major injuries but have been to the hospital on several occasions due to injuries sustained during firefighting activities. You would be amazed at how bad you can injure yourself even during routine activities. I managed to get 30 stitches on both of my hands starting a generator. I wasn't wearing gloves and there was an ice auger I didn't see in a bag next to the generator pull start (ice augers are used for water supply during the winter up here). I have seen guys destroy their backs improperly shifting a car to block it. These are simple every day things that can ruin your life. I'm not going to criticize these guys but I will say that for those of you saying real firefighters don't worry about safety, I think you need to reevaluate your priorities. I have attended firefighter funerals for guys who didn't wear airpacks back in the day and even a guy who died in a backing up incident. Who thinks they will be LODD simply backing up a piece of apparatus. Don't take safety for granted. The person stuck in the car will still be there while you put your glasses and gloves on. Stay safe out there!

Now for some good feedback... I love that line of Hurst tools. I've tried many of the other brands and I like the Hursts better. That door popped open really easy...We use to do doors like that all the time until we found we could take the roof off easier on the newer lightweight cars. On the new cars the metal is so thin on the doors we were ripping the doors to pieces. We started taking the roof off with a sawzall or cutter depending on the situation. Then just lean the seat back and slide the patient up on to the board from behind. It keeps the spine straighter too. Cool video

why are they not having simple protection like goggles and gloves. also why did they cut the last hinge and wires on the door?. it would have been quicker to use the spreaders for the hindge and bolt/wire cutters for the wires. and if they thought he had a spinal injury, why did they twist him out the car?

How many people noticed that the guy in the crash was on his phone as he was getting into the ambulance. And why don't the EMTs have and high vis vests or coats on?

Some things could have been done better.. you always want to get the patient as quickly as possible the stretcher could have been by the passenger door one the door was popped.. not sure if you really needed to waste valuable time cutting the door off you could have spent that time moving the patient as you had no threats from the door due to no side air bags on the older model car... But again these are just hints as I was not on scene so I didn't see what you guys saw... I appreciate the willingness to throw up a video knowing you will hear criticism on almost everything you do.... this is how we make the fire service better this stuff is not only fun to watch but its educational and you guys are doing a great job and service to the firefighting community..... thanks brother!!

I really didn't wanna be a dick on the new episode. No universal per-cautions for blood borne pathogens (Nitrile/Latex gloves). Plenty of access one the door was popped and pushed a head...no need to remove it completely. No safety glasses on the Spreader operator...hmmm what else? The camera work was fantastic for being at night.

I know it is not funny but a FD near here arrived on scene for a MVA and a civilian told them that the patient from the accident was sitting in a near by car. The FFs grabbed their tools and went to start "extricating" the patient. The civilian tried to talk to the FFs again but was interrupted by the IC who threatened to have them arrested if they did not step back and stop interfering. They stepped back and just watched as the FF broke the windows, popped the door, cut all the posts, removed the roof and extricated the patient. Problem was that was the patient but that was not the vehicle involved in the accident. It was the car of the civilian that had stopped to help the ambulatory patient from the rollover. The actual vehicle was down in the ditch. The civilian had been trying to tell this to the FFs but they refused to listen. So when this FF in the video walked up to try the door BEFORE cutting it made me laugh. This case I spoke of above is now taught in all NFPA FF1 training courses here. The civilian who rendered aid ended up with a brand new vehicle courtesy of the taxpayers of that FD coverage area.

I like the idea of what your trying to do with these videos, but I must say y'all need to take safety precautions with the task shown....first video I ignored second video I bit my tongue, but with this third video I must say y'all are showing good videos to show my guys what not to do.....y'all have no primary eye protection, one guy with no bunker pants and boots on., guy with shorts walking around the work area, guy in car with no ppe in vehicle......as for door no need to pop hinge if you can push out of way doors bend back easy......2nd video y'all posted again had ppe issues and guys running on scene.....I don't criticize much on these videos but I can not stand unsafe operations.....that's a good way to get someone seriously injured or killed......y'all need to take safety seriously......risk has a name and it will be one of your guys if y'all don't use proper ppe during operations

Remember one thing Jarrett. The guys and gals filming this scenes are not the ones that control what they wear and what they do. They are only there to film. I would say if you really are uncomfortable with this, maybe you should get a hold of their chief and bring it to his attention.

Zack really? Real firefighters? Real firefighters as you put it are trained that their safety is priority#1, then their partners, finally the Pt. I have been in ems/fire service for about 10 years. There is no excuse for not wearing proper ppe. No bsi on an MVC pt. With moderate damage to the vehicle is asking for something to get passed on to you. Do you want to explain to your loved ones why you brought home HIV or HEP C? The odds are unlikely, but why take the chance? Not to mention not wearing the proper ppe will likely mean in the event you get injured, you will lose a majority of your benefits as it was your negligence that caused the injury. Like everyone has said, great video concept, but you need to find a dept. Who isn't fly by night like these guys with their blatant disregard for proper safety.

Where's his eye protection?? He could've got metal or glass in his eye. And are those NFPA approved extraction gloves? I think not. Other than that, awesome episodes.

One fault I found was the c-spine broken while sliding the patient on to the backboard; the firefighter lifted the guy's head for some reason when he shouldve kept it aligned with the torso... And a con that I've seen with those battery powered stretchers is having a guy (whose used to his departments battery powered stretcher) come along on mutual aid and use our department's manual stretcher. He couldn't figure out how to load the guy in the back of the ambu after multiple jaring attempts! I was furious and pushed him to the side and showed him how WE do it.

Wasted time cutting the door completely off, your safety is first, then patient safety and treatment (in a timely manner); which both were ignored by not breaching the hood and disconnecting the battery or even turning the ignition off. The airbag hadn't deployed, which at this point; is their greatest threat. However it was all ignored along with bsi precautions. Sorry about the rant, but firefighters lose their lives, and now a days, their jobs due to inappropriate actions on the scene...

No eye protection? No medical/extrication gloves? Every single person working on that scene should have a safety vest on too, not just the guy who's directing traffic. It still is an active roadway. Just because some people on here post about safety concerns that makes them no less of a better firefighter than the companies featured on this video series. In fact, you should be preaching safety in all aspects so when you post these videos, people from other departments around the country can learn to better themselves or better their department.

Why did that entire door need to be removed? Just bend it back. Obviously not on scene and not knowing the SOPs, but it seems like a lot of work for not much gain. Also, blood born guys??? Especially on the EMTs.

I've been biting my tongue on these too. The lack of PPE is an embarassment to the fire service. I hope people don't think that this is how most depts. conduct themselves. I know in my dept. you'd be out in a heartbeat if you did some of these things, or at the very least screamed at by the chief!! I like the idea of the show, but PLEASE find a dept that is respectable!! These videos are truely what NOT to do on scene!
