This episode i build a spray booth in the shed and come up with a unique air extractor unit to help get rid of the fumes. Another long one so crack a beer and i will see you in there.

I'm a HVAC installer/painter. If you install more filters for the incoming air you would increase your air discharge greatly. Do a test by removing the sheet of plastic where the filter is mounted, and watch how fast the over spray gets sucked out. It will help when you shorten discharge tube with soft bends as you mentioned. Great job.

Thanks for the feedback, I agree I want to put another 2 air intakes as I did notice it wasn't enough. Down the track I do upgrade fan capacity as well to two fans. Thanks

Hey mate good job - thanks for sharing. Loved the surprise appearance of Iron Man and how you included the LED stuff-up. Happens to all of us! Some suggestions for easy improvement: 1) Invert the extractor box so the filter segment is vertically above the fan and the fan points down. 3 advantages - you reduce the intrusion into the spray booth of the filter box, you straighten out the exhaust path for that concertina duct so no 90 degree elbow, and you'll make the filter box / extraction fan contraption more stable with less hanging attachments for easier / quicker removable and replacement if you want that to be portable. 2) Increase the number of filtered intakes so you don't get dusty air inside the booth from other sources - as they don't have fans it'll be cheap and passive but work well. 3) The fluros might need some air flow for cooling. 4) Think about the floor dust when spraying - either lay down plastic, or wet the concrete floor with water, both of which will protect the concrete slab from overspray if the premises are rented or discoloured concrete is a concern. 5) With that fantastic car-rotator you have, consider a couple of LED floodlights outside the booth shining light through the builders plastic, and spray from that side by rotating the car. Good luck!

Hi mate all looking really good, sucking seems to get the fumes out better then blowing into the room, but positive pressure keeps the dust out better, i found i needed a larger area of filter on the wall to get the air moving, as you know your playing with paints that can kill you. see how you go but if it gets to cloudy in there stop and make a larger area for the air to enter. you will always get dust on your paint, but dude your booth will easily be good enough to do a awesome paint job.
@BarnesysBuilds4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Mark, yes absolutely, I know 2 Pak paints are another level in danger in both toxins and explosive areas. Yeah I might put another vent closer to the unit as well which won't be a big deal to do at all. 2 fans would be better but have to draw the line somewhere! Cheers

Looking good Barnesy . I reckon you need another inlet to move enough air. I’m doing a similar thing myself in my garage and found it better with 2 fans like yours. Just make sure you’ve got a top quality mask and plenty of spare filters for it :)
@BarnesysBuilds4 жыл бұрын
Cheers mate, ha I don't fancy building another box that's for sure but will see how it performs first with adding a secondary inlet. Cheers!

Looking sweet mate. Don't stress , whatever you do you'll get a little bit of trash in the paint but a wet sand and buff will sort it. I'm no air movement scientist but as you say I don't think you need a great deal of extraction power for it to be to effective . Good luck with it.

Cheers Duncan, yeah I am going to give it a run tomorrow with some wheels so will see how it goes with that. It's 2k paint so my first crack at the serious stuff!

Try keeping floor wet when you paint it, will help dust from moving around. Use a sunstrom cartridge mask, around 100 bucks.

Looking good mate. I looked at both tailgates at Rare Spares and went with the thicker one. I just couldn't bring myself to put one on the ute that was so much lighter than the original one. But at the end of the day, we all know that it will end up with a dent right in the middle. 😂 Have you picked a colour yet? Or is that top secret? Are you going to make it a surprise and do a "big reveal" episode at the end? 😂
@BarnesysBuilds4 жыл бұрын
Hey Ray, Im not sure if i have responded earlier however youtube is saying i haven't so i will now, sorry about the delay. I have a couple of colours in mind, nothing outrageous, sticking with tried and tested good colours, or shades will be say, however the way the paint will be structured and laid on will determine how strong the body lines will be highlighted.

@@BarnesysBuilds I'm leaning towards Sandalwood Metallic or Gunmetal Grey. But not in any hurry. I'm hoping to get it close to finished by the end of next year.
Hi Barnsey How safe do you reckon the ventalation fan you used is with regards to causing an explosion? And what lights would you use to be safe?
@BarnesysBuilds3 жыл бұрын
Hey mate, it is a proper extraction fan so its internal motor is shielded to prevent any unwanted sparking. I have fluoro lights but they are shielded in plastic covers. LED strips would be fine as long as t power connection is external.

@@letsdoit9547 the extraction fan. I found a few on Amazon and ebay. Different brands ( same exact fab rebranded ) there instructions say not to put any flammable airborne through it. I mean I have a generic fan right now doing it and I've been fine but better safe then sorry

Were you concerned that the fan was not explosion proof ? Looking to set up similar system in my garage...
@BarnesysBuilds Жыл бұрын
I looked into it and it says it used for fume extraction so it has to be explosion proof. It gives no warnings on the manual and says it can be used to extract paint fumes. I know a few people who use them, never heard of one going wrong.
