The Tasman Peninsula has so much more to offer than just Port Arthur. It is one of our favourite spots in Tassie.
We timed our stay on the peninsula perfectly with some epic weather.
An absolute highlight for us on this trip was our glassed out day at White Beach. The water was so flat and so clear we could see the flatheads swimming around underneath us. It was the perfect day to have kids out fishing in the boat with heaps of fish on the bite (so much so that we were throwing a heap back).
Port Arthur is the main drawcard to the area for many and it is good. It’s a big day walking around the historical site and definitely an eye opener for how hard life was back then.
There are a heap of free talks on offer and we found every guide was great delivering information that was easily understood and engaging for both kids and adults. We paid extra to do the escape tour which was definitely a concept the kids enjoyed heaps.
Apart from Port Arthur there are a heap of free things to do on the Tasman Peninsula like the convict coal mine, Fossil Bay, Tasman Arch, Devil’s Kitchen, Patersons Arch, Tesselate Pavement, The Dog Line and Remarkable Cave.
We’ll definitely come back to do the Three Capes walk sometime soon as this looked great and seems like a more manageable multi day hike to do with kids as you are staying in (quite fancy) huts.
If you are in Tasmania but aren’t sure whether to come to the Tasman Peninsula - do it. You don’t need to go to Port Arthur, there is so much more on offer. And if you are worried about evidence of the massacre at Port Arthur, the memorial for it is tucked out of the way and to be honest you probably wouldn’t find it unless you were looking for it.
As always, thanks so much for watching. We truly appreciate every view, like, subscribe and comment.
Happy adventuring!
