I appreciate the true reality of your journey. I found this channel while researching the Great Loop, and your transparency has opened my eyes to many things that I would not have thought about before I was into it. Thanks for sharing and safe travels.

Hi there! You are living my dream of a solo run at the Great Loop in about 10 years from now! So thank you so much for posting your journey. Thank you also for including mistakes and misfortunes along the way, these lessons are incredibly valuable for someone like me and may very well save me a ton of heartache down the road. Don't let anyone discourage you, people like me really value your videos, we need the inspiration and the leapfrog on the learning curve is invaluable. Good luck out there, stay safe, and keep the content coming!!!!

There are 100s of Great Loop videos showing all the beautiful sights, very few are willing to show the "real" aspects. Glad we subscribed and will be sure to continue to watch all your videos! Thank you for an honest video sir

RELAX! The Watch Officers on Stockholm and Andrea Doria screwed up. I KNOW! I was part of the rescue of 1,600+ people from the Doria before she sank! Thanks for keeping real and honest.

shit happens, disaster averted, lesson learned. no worries. I just copied and paste what the IRON guy wrote below, was the perfect response. Now for my 2 cents, I wish you would have filmed inside that seafood restaurant at the end including what you ordered for dinner Keep the videos coming

Not sure the lesson was learned. You must keep an adequate watch at all times. The autopilot issue wouldn’t have mattered if he’d been keeping watch. Also he tied the line incorrectly to the dock at the fish restaurant. Either he just wants to bumble through and eventually end up on the network news or actually realise he’s in over his head and get some decent instruction from a licensed captain and learn all the things he doesn’t know

I had a guy forget to hit the resume-route button on an offshore delivery. 3 hours later, at change of watch, we discovered that we were 25 MILES off course, and 20 miles into the gulf stream. Fighting the gulf stream added two days to the trip. You'd think the systems would be smart enough to start beeping at you after a few minutes or something.

Anyone who runs around in boats makes mistakes. I absently-mindedly went a little bit too close to shore on a route I have done dozens of time and clipped two lower units on my outboards. A very expensive mistake! I don't blame you for focusing on killing green-head flies -- those things BITE like a steam shovel. Enjoyed the video.

two types of boaters, those who have run aground and those who will. Good catch. Makes me wonder, what do you do to take a bathroom break? Anchor? I ran from Titusville to Savanah single handed on a 44 ft boat. I would wait for an open area, with no other boats around. With heading hold and slow pace, I would run below with my navionics running on my phone. Only had to do that twice.

I have more than once ran a ground because I was distracted. Never under power, usually while drift-fishing. But it still a heck of a feeling to be tying a fishing line, hear a noise look up an see the bank right beside you.

The videos are getting A LOT better. I appreciate the honesty and allowing us to share your trip with you. I have been on the water for 35+ years and I have had my share of almost fuckups, as well as a few true fuckups. Hell I have even sunk a boat and spent 6.5 hours swimming in the ocean before being rescued by a charter boat. You are in my neighborhood, literally. I have spent 1000s of hours in and around Morehead City and have eaten a many of meal at Sanitary but didn't realize they allowed overnight docking. Have a safe trip and I will keep you in my thoughts and keep watching your videos. You are making a trip that I plan on being able to make in another 10 years, hopefully.

I’m sure we’ve all taken our eyes off the boat , e.g let’s look at navionics on the iPad, head down, and it’s surprising how quickly one is not where one imagines one is. What got me is how clean your Bimini looks , I would not squash a fly on that beatiful fabric

Good catch on the near grounding! One tip on electrifying the horse flies--I've found if you push the button on the electric tennis racket and then very very slowly bring it up under the horse flies on the bimini trapping them between the racket and the bimini, they almost always fly into the racket and get smoked. Swinging at them almost never works in my experience. Loving your videos!

I have watched many looper videos. For some reason, yours caught my eye. We have a boat and live on the loop, in Canada. I'm deciding whether or not to continue subscribing, as you are very new to YT videos, it seems. Including videos with the good and bad is what people want to see. And anyone who hasn't had a close call like that has never been on a bigger boat. If we keep watching, you'll have to look us up when you get to Peterborough Ontario. We know the Canada part of the loop very well. Safe travels, Mark from Peterborough.

How did you know the bridge would be closing in 2 days? Were you able to radio ahead, or is there a resource that provides you with that information? Glad you avoided crashing the boat. Continue to keep it real and ignore the haters, those of us who want to do the loop will enjoy seeing what really happens.

Your first couple videos caused me concern but I thought your confidence level and ability to control your vessel would improve quickly in a very short time. I'm not so sure you're best off continuing solo. If you have a friend who can give you a hand for a week or two it might be beneficial. As long as you are not a risk to the safety of others, keep going. If you reach a point that you feel you are placing others at risk, stop. Good luck!

I’ve given you a jab before, I commend you for leaving the mistakes in. the least that could have happened is you beach the boat, the worst would have been if you still had your back to the shore and it stopped fast. Could have really got hurt.

For every mistake that you learn from you will save thousands of similar mistakes in the future, so if you treat mistakes as learning opportunities that yield rapid improvements you should be excited by them. But if you treat them as bad things, you will make yourself and others miserable, and you won’t grow. Ray Dalio
