In this episode we'll be making another player handout (this time one that can be spun around to form different words ), along with a few bits of scatter terrain to represent it on the tabletop.

Here's some of the cheesy riddles I was using in last weekend's game: 1) Never foremost, but enduring. 2) I lie upon the shore, and fall to measure time. 3) I can shroud both land and sea. A veil before thine eyes. 4) No voice have I when I'm at rest, and my ring cannot be worn. 5) My waves are not of the sea, my grip is not of fear. 6) In the dark I linger, in the light I wane. In thy mind I haunt thee - thy courage I will drain. . . . . . . . . Answers: 1) LAST 2) SAND 3) MIST 4) BELL 5) HAND 6) FEAR

I just realized, you can spell FART with this puzzle. I will use this knowledge for evil; pure cartoonish evil.

I was greatly amused when the cute mini-version of the puzzle appeared on screen. Looking forward to using this the next time we play in person. Thank you very much for sharing.

I love these puzzle handouts. I love puzzles in dungeons as a break from just fighting monsters. Please make as many of these as you can think of! I will buy every one!

I once did something similar, but it was a maze design. The MacGuffin the party were searching for was place at the center of the maze, I designed maze-like corridors on the outer rings with hallways that would align with each other once the rings started to turn. In short, the maze was constantly changing. I gave the party hints to this change, after a certain amount of time the walls and the ground began to tremble, signifying the movement. The group of adventurers were very confused, but eventually figured it out. As always crooked staff, love your videos. Keep the inspiration up.

Hmmmmm ...a handout/prop that would allow the pc's to change/spin the dungeon map as they go would be interesting :)

Really nicely done with the "game example"! Also, my mom smiles from her grave when you use those shiny golden thingies. She loved them and used them in all her little paper crafts. She was a teacher for small kids, and had lots of use : O)

Yeah, I'm pretty sure these 'brads' were in the box(es) of craft supplies I inherited when my own mom passed away - so it's good to find a use for some of that stuff from time to time :)

Oh, very nice. I have done something similar, but certainly not as professional looking as this. Ok, not as good as this at all. I was inspired by old decoder rings you would hear of in cereal boxes (I never had one, heard of them all the time in old TV shows and comic books, but not had one) and, if you remember or know of, the old 8 bit SSI AD&D CRPGs like Pool of Radiance, Hillsfar, Curse of the Azure Bonds, etc. that had something like this that came with the 2.5" floppies in the box as 'copy protection' in order to load the games. I used hand drawn runes and symbols which I think was what those game protection discs used? The concept was a handheld set of discs required for over a years worth of actual gaming (nearly two) to access the campaign's various dungeons so as to complete 'the thing' they needed to complete for, reasons.

Nice. And yeah, I do vaguely remember early copyright protection (sometimes it would be like... input the 3rd word on the 5th line of page 27 of the instruction manual :) ).

Is their any chance to get these rings blank so we can put our own runes or whatever on them? This is a great idea. Sort of reminds me doors in Skyrim. Thanks for the ideas!

I wasn't planning to. For example, if I decide that they're written in 'dwarvish' I would just hand it to the player(s) that have characters that can speak dwarvish ...and only they can play around with it.
