Damn. I've been doing it all wrong. I tried it the way you guys described and it improved my casts by 60-80 yds. Thank you! As soon as I have my shoulder surgery next week I should be on the road to recovery and casting longer than ever. I do like your videos.

Technique and equipment are all covered very well in this video. The next thing one can do to increase casting distance is to do strength training. Casting a fishing rod is no different than swinging a tennis racket, a golf club, or a baseball bat. It's no different than throwing a punch in boxing, or spiking the ball in volleyball. It's all about generating power by using the entire body to transmit force from the feet, legs, hips, core, shoulders, arms into the hands, and, finally, into the fishing rod.

Great video! Casting from the side is also very important to practice if you want to land the lure in precise spots near debris or rocks where distance doesn't matter.

@Derick Jahnk This was great, thanks, been searching for "spring surf fishing nc" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across - Wenayden Xenaylee Blaster - (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my brother in law got amazing success with it.

posture is good, but the ONE THING that helped me cast long distances was using whats known as a casting trigger. Just get one from ebay its only like...$11? They hold the line for you securely so it doesn't slip during cast which means you can whip it with the full 100% of your power behind the line. Plus it prevents you from getting line cuts which is the last thing you want on a fishing trip!

Moderate fast surf rod is the best if you cast baits or plugs. They wont tear off your baits while casting. Chances of losing fish is lesser with moderate action rods. Fast action rods are not for the weaker lot as it has less spring action and depends on the caster strength to cast further. On the positive note fast action rods is more accurate. On the downside you might risk breaking the line if you fighting a fish too restless as the rod wont yield to the sudden jerks!

Hello Zeno and RyanThank you for sharing your tips. Next time, would you please include some tips about improving the triggering, which is quite important at the casting moment and for the accuracy. I have seen many surfcasters not having a fully coordination between their triggering and their other movements to get the right cast. Given this, they finally lost their lures because they were not able to avoid rocks or seaweeds that are between them and the right spot.Thank you, and greetings from Peru.

if anyone out there shoots a bow... i understood this info in that form factor. its hard to translate into text, but if you can shoot a bow ok, yout can cast well. on a recurve, it would be stand set pull release. set stand pull release. on a rod. its a bow with one end of the string detached. also, if your an archer, its pretty good fun to tie just a lead weight to a line and hitting shots with the rod,. same skillset but different use.

even if it is reefy, having 50lb instead of 30lb wont save you very much when it comes to braid, rub it a little bit and it will just snap, especially if we talking fishes where 30lb+ line is actually necessary. If you are worried about reef we use what is called a "rub line". If using the "fg knot" the friction created by join is minimal, even using the typical uni connection i've had more than good enough casts. Unless i know there is a pocket/channel multi hundred feet out i only need to cast as far as i can see anyways. or for me i use an extra long hook line if the waves are strong enough. the extra long mono line protects against the rubbing too, so far hasn't let down.

Very informative video. I have always used my right hand to apply force, and hence always struggled with the casting distance. Now, I will use this technique to improve my casting distance. But there is a little bit of confusion. The fishing rod is said to be an example of a third-class lever to which effort or force is applied in the middle. So, if it is a class three lever, the force must come form the right hand. Please elaborate.
@michaeleverton48823 жыл бұрын
Push forward with right hand, pull down with left hand. Imagine a middle point between both hands on rod, that is the (invisible) axle the casting movement does going forward with rod. 🎣

It's too early, but seems somewhere between a first and third class lever. Right hand pushing above the reel is third class. Left hand pulling rod butt is first class. Optimal rig trajectory is 45 degrees obviously. Why no free spool?
