In this episode I show how to power your Ring Alarm Base Station using Power of Ethernet (PoE). This is good to do as it eliminates the wall plug that you have to run, providing a much cleaner look. It is also more power efficient, saving you pennies a year.

Hello, nice setup. I saw the power output of the wall plug is 5v with 2.5a. does it work normal? Have you triggered any alarm with the system to see if the missing 2.5 watt cause an issues? Thanks

So if I did my math right, the wall plug is running 12.5W. The PoE splitter has a max power output of 15.4W per the manual so we have plenty of power. You idea is a very good one for stress testing the setup. I have not tried it yet. Thank you.

@@Ciband thanks I saw in the manual that the max output of the splitter by 5v is 2amperes so 10 watt. So there is some energy missing to the ring base station. That's why I was questioning if you notice anything different

Very nice, thanks for sharing. Still working? Should this work with the Ring Keypads also?? You say something about this Splitter coming with that small black cord. I don't see that on the Amazon link. Probably easy to find. Thanks!

No this would not. The Ring keypads have an internal battery and are USB charged. Their data is strictly ZWave to the base station. To power the keypad you would need to wire it to a USB power source or a standard electrical outlet. If I had the walls opened up I might think about running a USB cable in the wall to a near by hidden outlet to have a clean install. Thanks for watching.

@@Ciband Thanks. Any tips on hiding my cord on the Ring Keypads?

I would just drill a hole in the wall to feed the USB cable and make sure that hole is covered by the keypad.

Can you post a link to the dc Jack cable too? Thanks for the video as I also saw the Reddit post but was unsure how well this worked.

Did you ever have any problems with this set up?. My ring power supply is 2.5A and this splitter is only 2A @ 5v

@@Ciband I just put a meter on my Ring power supply and it was drawing 0.07 amps. I then ordered the splitter and cable. Thank you for this. I love to make cleans installs and this will go high on the wall in our hall

@@Ciband excellent, thanks for your reply, was just concerned because the power supply that comes with it a 3A and the PoE adapter I believe is 2A, but if you’ve not seen any issues, I’ll probably go with that

Hi, I’m trying to find out if I buy the latest Ring gen2 system (not Pro) does it have an Ethernet-in connection, I don’t like Wi-Fi so I want to provide internet signal via Ethernet, Wi-Fi is bad for your health!

All Ring base stations have Ethernet as an option. I also would not worry about WiFi. It will not hurt you. Thanks for watching.
