This episode of The Vacation Rental Show with Matt Landau explores Bowen Island through the eyes of local vacation rental professional Jan Stevens of Bowen Island Accommodations.

My takeaways were the words: deliberate and liberate. Visitors to Bowen Island do so deliberately - they have to take a ferry, no turning back when you're half way there!. Jan, her friends and local businesses deliberately choose to make their lives, small businesses and artistic creations on Bowen Island and liberate themselves from what they have left behind. Spectacular!

Jim Prugh absolutely loving your observations and cross-patterns about these episodes. There’s definitely an important commonality between destinations that are out of the way - they require the commitment that filters out the general population. In a sense, with this natural restricting factor, they are in the best position to create sustainable tourism ecosystems. Not unlike Lindsborg.

Arnica Mont-Tremblant they always talk about “smell-a-vision” for cooking shows, but I think you’re right, they need it for travel too! Certain destinations just have that scent!

Stunning scenery and a very fun episode, Matt. Nice to get to know Jan a little better. So yeah, that locale is about as far as you can get from Panama, LOL. I've spent a lot of time in the San Juan Islands, also off of Vancouver to the south and it's lovely but darned cold water! Definitely not for wading or bathing suits!

RedSpiralHand Thanks Dawn! We have another IC member Todd Doyle based on Orca’s Island in the San Juan Islands. Very similar feel. We just love how that entire region has it’s own look, feel and attitude. And Jan was the gateway to it all :)

Bowen Island looks very beautiful and peaceful. We are looking forward to our upcoming trip in July. We cannot wait to enjoy being surrounded by nature. We hope to visit the Cocoa West Chocolatier, and some farmers markets while we are there.

We have just arrived back to Vancouver having stayed a weekend at that incredible rental property. We just had the most wonderful first time on Bowen and will make it a regular stay here in. So pleased to have been shown this show too. Thanks!!!
