One thing I keep thinking about in the vein of “what if Filoni wrote Andor?” is the scene with the character of Davo Sculdun, the “thug” that is going to help Mon Mothma hide her finance trouble from the Empire. If Filoni wrote it, he would be Jabba the Hutt and she would have met him in his palace on Tattooine. She would have said “I need to hide my money from the Empire” and he’d say in Huttese “Ah. You need to hide money. Perhaps I can help” Mon: “How much would it cost?” Jabba: “Ho ho ho. Ha ha ha. I will ask you for a favor later. Ho ho ho ha ha ha” and Boba Fett would be there then the scene would end

I'm kind of befuddled how people think Andor is boring. It was the most I've had to pay attention to any Star Wars dialogue to understand what was going on, and I call that engaging. As much as I like Rosario Dawson, Ahsoka was a chore to get through. At the end of Andor, I wanted more, but at the end of Ahsoka, I was relieved it was over with.

I assume Filleto'fish wants the audience to root for Sabine. So I naturally have to ask, does Felony consider things like not being willing to suffer a few minutes of boredom in order to honor beings who fought and died fighting tyranny the type of thing Baloney considers an admirable trait?

@@Anonyomus_commenter no doubt they have their place, are good, (probably better than the prequels and sequels combined), but absolute is so far above anything else in the SWU that it can exist on it's own with nothing more than A New Hope as a reference and still make sense... And that's just for the post credit scene. In that sense, only A New Hope, Rogue One, and Andor can exist entirely on their own as complete works that require nothing external to explain them into existence.

I appreciate your observations, but a few suggestions: better audio (better mic and/or recording environment, better matching of levels and sound quality/tone when splicing in audio recorded later); better B-roll (I feel like you repeat a lot of shots and even whole sequences over and over, and also they don't relate to the scene you are describing, which is distracting as opposed to punctuating the point you are trying to make); you have a very monotone voice which lacks energy and makes it hard to stay engaged as a listener. That's harder to change than the audio & video issues, but maybe check out a voice acting video to learn how to increase your range, tempo, and energy level throughout your dialogue. Again, your observations - I think (so far) - are pretty spot-on but I think a little more production quality would make more people more interested in watching more of your posts.

Ahsoka, boba fett, OBIWAN and mando all have a cheap aesthetic that looks like a theme park, feels fake, the sets and costumes feel like they are from a cruise ship stage show featuring Star Wars. Andor legit feels like a movie, an atmosphere driven story, oozing with care in its craft. Andor will age like fine wine. Ahsoka will age like milk, a temporary high is Ahsoka, and andor is the only show that has the Balls to stand on its own and even if it’s bOrInG to some I like how it doesn’t feel the need to throw in familiar shit to make fans point and go I KnOw ThAt gUy

@@zigedelic3909 exactly, and certain people like Star Wars theory or den of nerds preach they want “good Star Wars”, and sweep andor under the rug, and say give us ahoska, mando s 1 and 2, and it’s like those shows are mediocre af, are objectively poorly written, andor is the “good Star Wars” we need cause it’s objectively well written, I liked mando 1 cause it was mostly original then s2 happens and it’s cameos and barely a story. People say just give us mando 1 and 2, they were perfection and I like them, but on the surface the reason those were praised was for all the reasons andor isn’t being praised, andor doesn’t give Star Wars fans what they want, it give Star Wars what it needs and that is something new and original for the universe done with the most insane form of dedication to directing, writing and filmmaking in general

Regular Star Wars fans are conditioned to find a show like andor boring but I’m hoping they come around in the long run

It’s a credit to the writers: tony and Dan Gilroy, beau Willimon, Stephen Schiff. Their credits include the Bourne films, House of Cards, Ides of March, The Americans- all political and espionage thrillers. You can tell that they are all veterans when it comes to writing drama and they have multiple awards among them to show for it. I recommend House of Cards and The Americans. Really interesting character studies of politicians and their machinations and spies so deep undercover that they sometimes question who they really are. Great stuff and you can see where Andor gets its inspiration.😊

K2-SO & B2EMO are two of the funniest most interesting characters created by Disney. I would watch an IRL or animated series about them over Ashoka or Mandalorian ANY day of the week. B2 has so many layers to his nervous, stuttering character. "I want Mmm Maarva" would break your heart. I think of how terrified he would be leading the funeral procession, knowing he will need to project her hologram in front of the whole of Ferrix never mind the Occupying Imperial troops but he does it anyway, because his love for her is so great [as much as Cassian or Brasso] that he can suppress his fears. Just look at how terrified he is when he is tipped over by the Imperial soldier and is utterly helpless as a riot errupts all around him. - Nothing in the Kenobi series rises this level of pathos and meaning. So too consider the sacrifice of K2-SO in Rogue One. He slams shut the vault to protect Cassian & Jin. "Climb" he shouts as he is shot to death [And Cassian shouts out to him just as he would for any human friend] to give them a chance to complete their mission and escape. It brings a tear to your eye to watch this 'droid die. He is endowed with as much humanity and depth as any Sequel Trilogy character. I also loved his shock as Jin hands him a blaster. "You continually surprise me Jin Urso" as he looks at the blaster in his hand in bewilderment. It mirrors beautifully his warning to Cassian that Jin has "found" a gun. "Do you know the odds on her using it against us? Its High... its VERY high." These couple of scenes - we could look at a dozen others as well- have real depth and meaning. Im thinking a movie Trilogy about them would be as good as the sequels, or at least a few seasons on Disney + no? Seriosly the fact that Tony Gilroy's team that he assembled for Andor, or Gareth Edwards' for Rogue One, give this much depth & humanity to these droids speaks volumes for the respect they had for Star Wars' fans. We all loved R2D2 because although he spoke in beeps & whistles we knew exactly what he was saying. When he is hit in Luke's mission to blow up the Death Star it bothers us as much as if he were human, and his appearance at the medal ceremony completes our enjoyment of A New Hope. I admit that BB-8 was a masterstroke by JJ. in Force Awakens. The engineers who managed to make a sphere with a semi-sphere for a head that could roll in any diection and remain upright was by far the most original creation for that movie. Sadly Ryan Johnson, who's head is also a round ball, turned BB-8 into a cartoon character - one who flies a spaceship and drives a 2 legged AT-ST [All Terrain-Scout Transport] to kill all the Stormtroopers in TLJ. making him into a joke. But still his beeps and whistles were easy to understand. But givng K2 & B2 normal voices gives them a new layer of humanity and we can relate to them just as deeply as if they were real people. B2 especially is funny just because he is so nervous and childlike. When Maarva has died we are told this by the way B2 is shaking so nervously. His grief & sadness feels real. His desperate appeal to Brasso not to leave him alone that night and how he convinces Brasso to spend that first night with him feels real and tugs our heart strings. "I don't want to be alone I want Maarva" is not comedic but rather the natural reaction of a son who has lost his mother. who among us hasn't felt the same loss and grief at some point. Andor is so good just because of this type of character writing, just like the costume designers, the set builders, the music score, the limited sfx, and thank god for the decent dialogue. when you spend a couple hundred million on a show or movie it is inexcusable to not have the best dialogue writers like were involved both in Rogue One & Andor. I dont think I cringed even once during these shows which I cannot say about any of the 6 films George Lucas made. But compared to Ashoka & The Mandalorian they are positively Shakesperian. [by the way was it really James Earl Jones who shouted "NOOOOOOOO" at the end of Revemge of the Sith?] Sad that this was the final word he uttered in the six movies he voiced.

I was bothered so much by it What would even be the point of droids if they were just tin cans you could punch? Especially specialized assassin ones. They would overpower any human, only someone wielding Force might be able to do something about it. Just another example of how shallow the writing is. They don't think past superfluous elements, SW is supposed to have droids, so let's have droids. No need to think of how they'd work or why they're used. For a competent writer this would be an opportunity to do something interesting, flesh out the concept. Fir Disney hacks it's just a showpiece, keys to jangle in front of your face. Cheap, boring, unimaginative and lazy.

here's some editing advice for the video 1, try flip flopping from Ahsoka to Andor then vice versa when ever you finish talking about a scene rather than reviewing a whole episode for the first half of the video then the other for the second act, i think your cynicism towards Ahsoka could turn viewers off from watching the rest so switching up your mood could allow us to tolerate the video and watch through the end, 2, you could screenshot scenes then present them as you talk about each on so we could get the proper idea of what's upsetting or exciting you, playing the trailers on loop bores me and what i suggested can allow viewers to "watch" the show while you avoid copyright problems.

Hey man thanks for the comment! Being this new to the whole thing I appreciate in depth feedback. 1. I considered doing this but I ended up wanting to do the episodes in their entirety because switching back and forth to scenes that don’t have that much in common could be hard to follow. I would have to grab specific parts of the episodes to say, compare exposition regarding characters’ backstories with each other. I worry that I wouldn’t be able to go chronologically. I might play with it for episode two but no promises on that front. 2. I completely agree with you here. Since uploading, my main criticism towards myself was not having enough relevant scenes to what one talking about. I fully intend on improving in that regard moving forward. I’ll be totally honest here, I haven’t built up the “endurance” for 40+ minute videos like I thought I was ready for but I’m going to keep working on it. I hope you come back for the next episode!

I think this show flew so low under the radar, the top executives (aka KK) didn’t mettle with it at all and they allowed an excellent show to be created by accident 😆 Unfortunately, due to years of mismanagement, the Star Wars brand has been significantly tarnished. So now, Disney is in a loose loose situation. When they make a good show, no one watches it. Which in turn encourages them to continue to put out 💩, damaging the brand even more. The only hope I realistically see is for Apple to buy Disney. Apple actually knows how to make good content. Almost everything on Apple+ is good to excellent.

Ahsokas opening sequence could easily be better if they put any thought into it. For instance, they could've had the dark Jedi hijack a ship. Have the crew of that ship call in an emergency request to board. The captain being generous yet cautious. Sends a boarding party along with a med crew. Once on board the dark Jedi jump into action. Without saying a word they neutralize a large portion of the ships security and take a med tech hostage. Not wanting any futher casualties the captain let's them get in and out. A setup like this is 10 times better than having a idiot captain. Ahsoka is full of dumb shortcuts that really shoe the lack of writing talent working on the show.

A correction about that first scene of "Ahsoka:" The approaching ship _did_ claim to be Jedi and was using an old Jedi code. That was the bluff the captain thought he was calling. The question was: Why he'd bring aboard a ship he believed was deliberately misidentifying itself? An even bigger question: With solid evidence (they had the video) that renegade Jedi had slaughtered the crew and scuttled a capital naval vessel, why was the New Republic council opposed to sending a squadron after them? When they had solid evidence that the same renegade Jedi had stolen a large hyperdrive and was being positively tracked, why was the council still opposed to sending even a reconnaissance patrol after them? Yada, yada, yada about Thrawn, but Thrawn shouldn't even have been a subject of the conversation. Those bad guys had slaughtered the crew and scuttled a capital naval vessel. What, then, was the standing role of their Navy, if not to pursue pirates?

I had to take my eyes off the screen because I was getting confused seeing one thing while you discussed another. I took it more like a pod cast because of this. But Ahsoka was horrible !!! I'm assuming you didn't see Clone Wars cartoon or Rebels. This is where the background of these characters are. I really loved both of those shows. You have to make it past a few episodes to catch the drift, but trust me, by 2nd season of either show, I think you'd be into it. I'm super surprised Dave Filoni dropped the ball so badly with Ahsoka !!!!! Truly depressing... It was a mix of bland acting, but TERRIBLE direction and dialog !!!!!! I really liked Andor !!!! Both movie and TV show really have been the only decent newer Star Wars besides Clone Wars, Rebels and Bad Batch. Bad Batch is probably only tolerable if you saw the end of the Clone Wars and get a feel for them, but I do like the Bad Batch consept ! Dave Filoni should stick what he's very good at... Animation ! These two shows provide a great example between doing a lot with a little (who tf cared about Andor's backstory watching Rogue One?) and turning entire universe of opportunity into a turd (everything else Disney produced). Contrast between these shows is stark. Team behind Andor exposed frauds heading Disney Wars for what they are - talentless hacks. Which we already knew, but hopefully more people realise this simple truth. Dialogue in Andor alone has more intensity than any scuffed action scene from other shows. I really pity people incapable of enjoying it, saying it's boring.

That’s kind of what I wanted to do this series. I watched them around the same time and thought they would be perfect to compare, especially since they both came from Disney somehow.

Great video! I'm looking forward to seeing the next one. A couple of observations about the Ahsoka show of my own. There were a lot of rip-offs presented as callbacks from better ideas. For example, the introduction to Sabine was a direct rip off of when we first meet John Connor in T2. All Feloni needed was to ask Axle Rose to write a song for that scene. Urgh, what a rip off. The obvious Ahsoka the Grey to Ahsoka the white. No need to go into that. The obvious rip off to Game of Thrones opening as the closing credits for this show was awful. Don't get me started on the Indiana Jones rip off, and the list goes on and on. By the way, isn't Baylan Skoll the only living Jedi that technically completed the traditional Jedi trials? Shouldn't that be a thing? None of the light Saber wielders on this show completed the traditional Jedi trials? Any my two cents. Great video!!

Thanks! Yea it’s hilarious to rip scenes like John Connor and Sabine when the character development was hilariously different. John started out as a bad kid who we later find out has a good moral compass and ends up coming through. Sabine is just a terrible person. John wasn’t a commander of an army skipping out on a ceremony HONORING THE DEAD lmfao absolutely insane

Good analysis of the first episodes of Ahsoka and Andor. Diego Luna is a better writer than Dave Filoni. Ahsoka was relying too much on fan service and spectacle whereas Andor does a better job with character development and world building.

I feel like your review highlights a problem with a lot of star wars. Ahsoka is better if you have seen clone wars and rebels. I wanted to know the view point of someone who watched Ahsoka but not the animated shows. I guess it's not good.

I'm not so sure. Apart from OT and Clone Wars, I hated every other Star Wars movie/show. And I mean, every. And while I had 0 interest in the franchise at that point, I thought that I will like Ahsoka, since I loved her character in CW, plus, I adore Rosario. I think she is so charismatic and can make anything better. Then I watched the show and it was awful, even with all that in mind....and then I decided to give a last chance to franchise, watched Andor and absolutely loved it. And here's the thing - I hated Rogue one and could not care less about the characters in it. Bottom line is - good writing is good writing.

I have to say that my favorite part of Andor episode 1 was that first briefing with Syril and the Chief Inspector. Filled with characterization and world building. Having the Chief Inspector totally call out what happened, made my head spin that he wasn't just a SW sniveling officer that's so arrogant in their position. Just a smart but lazy guy just maintaining the status quo for the Corporation. We all know the type. But even with Syril in the right to do what he's doing, I just didn't root for the character at any time as opposed to Dedra who we run into later. Ahsoka is hot garbage.

I caught on to Syril's red-ass behavior immediately. He seemed way too eager to pursue leads that weren't there. Much like real politically motivated/fanatical types in any military or paramilitary organization, the zeal in which people pursue "justice" needs to be tempered with principles, otherwise they turn into barbarians. The character development in this show is excellent and the scene you cite is a perfect example of it.

Well I agree with most of what you said. You spent waaay too much time ragging on every detail of Ahsoka though. You let the hate flow through you too much, lol. You could have easily made your points in about 5 minutes. Thanks for the post though. I appreciate you sharing your thoughts on both shows. I hope the fans that love the sort of storytelling in Ahsoka got what they needed from the show. I didn't care for it either. Andor is ridiculously good. I hope that Tony Gilroy is offered a stupid amount of money to make another Star Wars series/film.

Yea andor is excellent! I honestly went kind of easy on Ahsoka. I was only on it for 22 minutes with the intro and it’s almost an hour long episode. The only reason it was so short in comparison was because of the long pauses and drawn out shots lol but these videos are full episode breakdowns. I’m glad you liked it!

You strike me as someone who has not seen Rebels or TCW. This show has A LOT of issues lmao I watched the first few episodes during a fan screening event and was absolutely bored out of my mind. That being said, many of the points you bring up against the Ahsoka TV show can be answered if you know the context of the two previous shows. Except for the dogshit writing and acting. That can't be fixed.

Andor sucks. Not enough nerf-herders, too much politics (which as you may recall is what sucked about the prequels). The original trilogy had humor and and an epic, almost fairytale like depiction of good vs evil. Andor is joyless and only appeals to people who can't resolve their feelings for something they now believe makes them seem immature. Ironically it is this mindset that makes them so - the true mark of maturity is in freely enjoying whatever you like and not caring whether others see it as grown up or not. Andor is nothing like Star Wars. It might as well be set in a different universe.
@nwfashionmedia

There's a difference between maturity and intellect. Andor requires intellect to appreciate. That's also why more intellectual fans don't like the other series - enough intellect lets you easily see the stupidity of the choices made by characters in other series. A stupid person will see stupid decisions as "normal."

That's the thing, everyone I know didn't enjoy Andor because we want to seem like adults, we actually really enjoyed it. Sure the arcs rook a bit, but we thought the payoff was well worth it.
@Psycorde

Presumptuous to think people who like it just pretend to seem mature. Some people just like good storytelling and compelling dialogue, cinema where characters are believable. Original SW had some dark undertones too, lest we forget that the Empire was inspired by Nazi Germany, among other things. But SW doesn't have to be any one thing, there was an opportunity to dig deeper, tell a meaningful, human story in Star Wars universe and Andor took it. It's not that it's different, it's how it uses these differences to its benefit. It's Star Wars that you haven't really seen before, which feels like it was there right under the surface all along. I'll take creative exploration of Andor over Mandalorian's shallow key-jangling any day. Not because I want to seem mature or more refined, it's just that this other thing got fucking old and tiresome. And because I enjoy a good story.
