Very enjoyable and informative video again Norm. Reminded me of when I crossed over to tassie a few years ago and had a little alternator trouble too Managed to fix it and carry on. Great to know you’re back safely on the mainland. Looking forward to the next episode. Thanks dude🤙 Erik

Brilliant Norm, love the tech talk, I have quite a large monohull pilot house motor sailor and learn something every time I’m on it, which is the nature of boats. Talks like that really help refresh your knowledge and I really appreciate it. Thanks

Well done on the trip up to Eden Norm. Thank heavens Bruce fixed that alternator and you had it with you. I've been watching those cargo ships entering Port Phillip heads and they don't waste any time at all. Great trip over all though Norm and a great video. Cheers Michael

Thanks, Norm That's a great piece of advice -- I must start carrying a spare alternator. I do have twin motors being a catamaran, but I can see that having the spare onboard relieved you of a degree of stress. Great episode and thanks for posting.

Nice work with the solo passage mate, and commendable effort doing the alternator change mid-stream. You made the change-out sound easy, but I bet it wasn’t with that rolling underway! Cheers Callum (Commocean)

Pretty easy mate, as long as your alternator is wired ready to go. I did wait until it calmed down a bit.

I'm surprised you don`t already have AIS, it would be useful when your having a nap it will allow other vessels to see you, identify you, avoid you or call you on the radio, you can also see vessels coming from behind you. If you add WiFi to your AIS you can use a ipad with Navionics and it will show AIS targets. I use a cheap AIS unit with a $50 NMEA to wifi bridge, it's worked perfect for the last 4 years

Love your videos, very informative. Not sure why you don't have have AIS, would have thought with your coastal sailing it would be essential.

Thanks, Norm for another great video. My current boat is an HT27, and am looking to sell it so I can move up a size. With the aim to do a lap, I am wondering what sort of fuel consumption you are getting? I have not made up my mind whether I stay with sail or move more motor sail .

I burn 6.4 litre/hour @ 5knots (both motors). It gives me a range of 650 nm. Would be more with use of the sail. It gives 6.5 to 7 kts. Hope that helps dude.

Hi Norm, been following you adventures for ages.... Two questions; are you coming to Pittwater when you leave Sydney? Also, whatever happened to the electric motor you purchased? Did I miss an episode? Cheers and safe travels John

hi Norm, quick question, how do you condition yourself to have power naps ? Seems i struggle to have a nanny nap, let alone power naps lol

Gets easier the longer I have been awake. The alarm on the phone helps, as i'm always sure o wake up. My main concern is staying asleep. I wouldn't use this method close to the coast.

Can you run sail only; what sail speeds & efficiency can you expect?
@MotorSailingforOldDudes
@MotorSailingforOldDudes Жыл бұрын
Hi Kevin. She won't sail without prop wash over the rudders. No keels and she wants to round up. I extended the rudders a while back but still need a lot of wind and it was very inefficient. so now we just motor sail. 5knts motors only...7 knts with 15knots of wind from the quarter.
