It's not a coincidence. The same happened to me. I really needed this message. Started yesterday after I saw a reaction to ' Words in the Water' and I just broke down crying. Like, revelation crying. And I'm anything but overemotional. I never really listened to it before. The message here and in that song are simply true, and that truth is so beautiful that it would make any man weep. It's a truth we so often forget, if we ever find it in the first place. Thank God for Thrice. True artistry and timeless lyrics, and still somehow not one of the biggest bands out there.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your daughter. I experienced a similar loss of a son named Parker almost 10 years ago. He was stillborn at 37 1/2 weeks. This song instantly made me think of him. Know that you'll never be the same person, but there is healing. I know it feels like your world stops turning, but with time it will turn again. You will live again. Sending love to you and your family.

It's like Thrice has grown up with me. I remember back in high school when "Deadbolt" was my favorite damn song. That energy fit my attitude. Now I'm 30 and have done a lot more living and reflecting and here they are making beautiful songs that aid in my reflections on life. What a band.

Andrew Anderson Well said. To Awake And Avenge The Dead was my favourite song in high school and Thrice has evolved with me as I grew older. I’m also 30 now and songs like this, In This Storm and Just Breathe actually captivate me. This band is unique. I’ll always cherish them.

January of 2020 my daughter died, after less than 2 hours of life. I married a German girl and I had a beautiful son. I went to war and came home a monster. She left me and took our son. For the last 8 years I've watched him grow up on my phone screen. I'm remarried with three more kids a 5 yr old boy and a set of geourgous 2 yr old twin girls. They want nothing more (especially my 5 yr old) to know and have there brother. My oldest son, soon to be 11 loves me despite my failures. Not being able to hold him and seeing him grow up but on a phone screen is all I have and I'm greatful for that at, least I have that. This song brings us together in spirit. I hear it and I feel him (my beautiful boy Wyatt). Thank you Thrice. He may be on the other side of the planet. But when I hear this song in my heart he is here.

Tell your son exactly these words or write them to him per letter, or tell him them in person..., he wants to hear that, it will help him to understand and recognise the bond between you two. he will understand, how important it is for you not just to be a distant, scarcely known or unpersonal figure in his life. he will acknowledge your honesty and relate to you as person, as loving and caring father. it will help him a lot to handle the situation and find inner peace, also to accept a deeper relation to you. we all are sometimes not the person our loved ones need..., sometimes we are quite far from it. But you are ready now to take responsibilty and and overcome the past. that can also inspire your son and show him, that changes are possible in a goody way. You took your next chance and made moves in the right direction!

This song is so special for me. Just after meeting the love of my life, this song found its way to us. Inspired by the lyrics, we embarked on a journey that challeneged and changed us both for the better. 5 years later, a couple weddign rings, and having traveled WAY beyond the pines, we found ourselves, and more importantly, we found a love that we never dreamed existed. Every-time I hear this song.. it’s such an emotional experience. This is art. This is the yearning of a loved one lost, or a time in the hopeful future or the nostalgic past when/where things are simple and pleasant. Just being able to put the complications of life aside, and just breathing. Just being. This song begs you to exhale and appreciate life while you have it. Moments while you live them.

I thought they were a rock band but....they're so much more and this song prooves it...this song reminds me of people i miss that have moved on, but it also gives me hope for the people i'll love in the future, a future husband, a close friend, maybe even kids i hope to have one day. This song holds a special place in my heart for a few reasons, chief of all being how I interpret it and what it means to me. To me, this song is about finding heaven. Your heaven, whatever form it takes, where everyone you love is, beyond the reach of mortal distractions like petty differences, greed, and hate. A place that's perfect, untouched and pure. Where the air is clean and cool, the earth green and the sky blue. Where it doesn't matter where you came from, only that you're here. Some of it's lyrics are unforgettable to me. "Our feet and souls both bare with grass beneath", "Our breath will be our prayer, alone, complete". The whole song is simply incredible.

This song is incredibly beautiful. The arrangement, lyrics, instrumentation, everything. I personally love the tension that is built up with the 5/4 time signature in the verse, and then the beautiful release into 6/4 for the chorus. Just awesome.

@@lambo908 He means the measures of the verses are a 5 count. Starting with the first vocal line, count 1-2-3-4-5 with the tempo of the song and you should get it. This is pretty unusual in rock music, as most songs are a 4 count, hence a drummer shouting "1-2-3-4!" at the start of a song. The band adds an extra beat to the measures in the chorus and this extra beat is part of what gives the chorus a sense of openness. This 6 count is often used in waltzes and ballads.

After reading through the comments, and seeing a common theme about loss and remembering my own, I re listened to this and broke down crying during it. This song is so beautiful and has so much emotion and thought put into it and it is one of the only songs, if not THE only, I can think of that has ever made me this emotional in ways that I cannot even describe. A good friend of mine, taught me how to sing over the past decade. I'd like to think I've become rather okay at singing thanks to him. He taught me to have more confidence and care more about myself. Unfortunately he recently took his own life and every time I sing along with this song, he is in my mind. Forever. I miss him but I am thankful. My dad died almost a year ago, I miss him so much. I felt into a hard depression, I'm better now but I'm not totally fine yet, no matter how much I do... the pain will never go away. But I swear to you dad, I will use this pain in your memory to keep going and to make you proud wherever you are now. I wish to had told you how much I love you much more times. I love you dad.

I've seen thrice probably close to 25 times, this song hit me so fucking hard on Nov 7th 2018 in Denver at Summit Music Hall. I was going through a lot, very bad time in my life. Once this song came one I couldn't stop crying. This band has saved my life with their music more than once.

This song really means a lot to my wife. She loss her father in May of 2022 and she's been listening to this song once she discovered it. It's helped me through one of the hardest parts of my life as well and I'm thankful. that she showed me this song and now we listen to it together whenever we are on road trips. It makes us cry especially at the end but we get through it even if we don't speak a word. Holding hands looking out the window and letting the wounds heal into scars that we can be proud of that we got through those obstacles.

I needed this song. I've lost touch with my emotions about my fathers death. It's been two years already and I still feel lost. This song helps me reconnect with those feelings and process them. Or at least kick starts the process. First time I heard it, this 6'2, 225 pound U.S. Army combat veteran bawled like a baby. Straight ugly cried like the day I got the call. Listening to it again for the umpteenth time and I still cry. I don't know if it's the right words or conveys the appreciation I truly feel, but thank you Thrice. For this song.

@@martinarias4468 interrconection of all of us and just this universal ecstasy and awareness. no matter the path and decisions we take, no matter how different we may seem to be, especially in this world of material value, busy life, make it or lose it attitude towards life. if we stop for a minute, take a good look how fucking lucky we are to be alive and to have emotions of love and gratitude, lucky to feel the breeze of wind on your face or see this world full of life, see that nature is a part of us just like we are a part of it. find calamity in all of this modern mess, we will all trully finally meet each other and have a universal sigh. I also liked to interpret this as a love song.

Man kind poisoned the home we've been given. Not just our world but our minds and bodies. With abuse drugs and so much more! Our sources has had enough. We need to enjoy our time we have left....this is why its so important for self healing and to help show others to heal. So we can love what we have left.

There is no way to cope with it friend. Be strong, keep it together and be very strong. It takes time, it will never go away but time makes it easier. Keep very busy my friend. Take you some time out for remembering and thinking of her but get back to work and stay busy. One day you will some how some way that I know nothing of nor do i understand but you will see her again and it will feel like just the next day. Stay strong friend and keep busy. Find a way to hold on to all that is important of hers. That's what I did.
