Pain on the outer side of the foot can be frustrating and nagging. It often take a very long time to go away, even after trying different orthotics, insoles, tools and devices.
Even medical professionals often aren’t certain about how to treat outer foot pain. Most have never even heard of cuboid syndrome and much less will know how to treat it properly.
Physical therapist often are confused on how to treat it and mistake it for plantar fasciitis. They end up prescribing the same exercises that they would give someone for any other generic foot problem.
In this video, Dr. David explains everything you need to know about Outer Foot Pain caused by Cuboid Syndrome.

I really appreciate your videos. You explain the problem clearly and give solutions. My chiropractor/PT had me do the rotator cuff exercises you said were wrong. I currently have the cuboid issues due to an injury, but I will look up your videos if my shoulder starts to hurt again.

I asked for an appointment for this problem, and I had to request this from my Dr’s surgery by online means. I received a reply telling me that I will receive a telephone appointment in 5- 6 weeks. Listening to your advice I have a feeling that I need a face to face appointment.

I woke up with this pain. The day before I was very busy and on my feet all day until about 10p. The pain does not allow me to stand or walk normally. I’m walking on my heal but with pain. This is not discomfort. This is very painful for me and sensitive to the touch.

I hope you discuss Peroneal Tendon injuries! If you had an injury 60 years ago, that I found was torn on the lateral aspect of the foot/ankle, below the Tibial joint. It was caused by an ankle turn injury, but it healed and never bothered me for 59 years! Can this be helped and healed AGAIN, so surgical intervention is not necessary? Thanks 😊

This is one of the most frustrating injuries! At first I did not know it was cuboid related so I kept running on it for a couple weeks, as it was a dull pain, thought it was just something that would eventually go away. Then after having it worked on by a PT, it was as if back to normal, but then two days later I felt it pop back out, and I was back to being "injured." So then I did exactly as this video showed, and it felt much better, but it still feels tender, and that foot just doesn't feel as strong as it use to before this injury. I am very apprehensive about attempting to run again, will it just keep popping out?. So frustrating because I am training for a race, and when I try to just go for a walk (3 miles or so), I still feel this dull pain exactly there start to come up. Tried icing it too. When will I fully be able to run on it again, jump, sprint etc?! Ughhh this is such a bummer as someone who is use to running every day.

I'm a runner as well. you ever heal over this injury? I never felt mine pop but it's definitely an injury I got running . time to switch shoes and try to do this exercise
@angelocasta
@angelocasta 6 ай бұрын
@@AndrewEvenstar Yes fortunately I did! I simply took enough time off, and it healed up. I was extremely frustrating to say the least. I also went to a physical therapist and let them work on it, and they had me do many strengthening exercises as well, and that all helped to have it eventually heal and now I am back to fully running.

As soon as you said it hurts all the time during all activities I was like nope I don't have this. It's definitely my peroneus longus injury...

There's literally a bump on top of my foot in that exact area and if you squeeze the metatarsal area together width-wise I will SCREAM because it hurts so badly. I have ankle pain and severe tightness up my calf but the only toe that won't curl is the one beside my big toe. I've had xrays, mri's, seen the most useless podiatrist who told me to wear birkenstocks as a fix when both my feet were swollen to double the size, and the kindest sports medicine physician; no one has suggested this. The latter told me it might be a cyst; the mri techs forgot to put a marker in the spot as well! Out of that they found "minimal intertarsal bursitis/effusion, tenosynovitis of flexor hallucis longus at the proximal aspect along the undersurface of the hind foot/midfoot" which they said was incompletely imaged, and "mild thickening and increased fluid signal intensity without defect or retraction involving the posterior talofibular and calcaneofibular ligaments likely relating to prior partial injury." Despite this, I still have no treatment plan and I'm so tired of being in pain. I'm about to see a physiatrist and will definitely bring this up. I have had this issue for TWO years now! I can't work because I can't walk more than 90 minutes and then need a break for days before I can be that active again.

I actually have a sizable bump on the outside of my foot that so tender and red. It doesn’t bother me at all when running but afterwards it’s tender to touch. It wakes me out at night throbbing like a toothache. What the heck can one do?

Hey Lynne! We are not exactly sure to what "bar" you're referring to, perhaps you're referring to the captions/subtitle bar. If you could please elaborate on this that would be great, we'd love to help clarify cuboid syndrome for you. We've never had this be a concern in the past.

Hey @holidaystropicanajuicebarb8454 Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts with us. We're really passionate about teaching and educating our viewers, which is why we often explain the reasons behind the movements and exercises we demonstrate in our videos. We believe understanding what's happening in your body is key to getting the most out of the exercises. However, we totally understand that some people prefer straightforward exercise videos without explanations. If that's what you're looking for, our channel might not be the best fit for you, and that's totally okay! We want you to have the content that suits your preferences. We appreciate your feedback. Take care and stay healthy
