Using a bridle helps the swing a bit. Much easier than setting out a second anchor solo. You can make a bridle using a spare line by tieing a prusik knot and Fishermans bend to make a loop to wrap around the anchor line and hold it taught. I’d avoid setting 2 anchors in all but the calmest conditions. You want to swing with wind and current.

Try using a bridal on the main anchor - it will allow you to swing as wind direction changes, but it should reduce the swinging back & forth.

This is going to a fun one to follow. Get some chain for your anchor or you will be having lots of trouble holding ground. You need to preplan whaat you are doing so you don’t keep screwing up things. Remember the 6 P’s. Proper planning prevents piss poor performance. Good luck, you are going to need it.

Great job captain. I really wouldn't suggest using a rear anchor for the purpose you did. You want the boat to swing to keep your bow in the wind. That allows your front anchor to work properly.

Hoping to solo the loop next year but I have had multiple people highly recommend a boat with a lower helm and doors. I will be interested to see you go through your first few locks…

Just do a hitch around rode with a dock line to use as a bridle. I’ve been cruising 30 years solo and only used a secondary anchor 1x.

Your departure was much better this time. You are going to have a lot of learning experiences. Take your time, be safe and process each lesson. You will be a better boater for this.

Your videos have a level of detail that I , as a layman , can really appreciate!

Once you get a couple thousand nautical miles on the loop you will see a huge skill difference. My preference is sailboats but it’s the same with skill. I got my first grey hairs docking and undocking for the first year. Also get headphones to drown out sounds at anchor or have music going on the speakers.

Just day 2 and such an improvement. Looking forward to the next one.

That vibration is probably coming from wear on your Cutlass bearing. While the props are off it would be easy and fairly cheap just to have the diver replace the Cutlass bearings

I love your video. I can almost put myself in your place. A recommendation, put an number in the corner of the screen to show how many days into the journey.

One anchor is good enough for most places. You saw what a pain it was to set and weigh anchor. You might want to hang around marinas to pick up some basic tips. Learning everything the hard way is OK but it gets old when you start from scratch.

But less drama on this video than the first video. I hop the vibration you are experiencing is due to a prop, not due to a problem with a shaft.

Nobody in America really does it but you should post a black sphere whenever you drop anchor. You see it in the Mediterranean and Europe all the time is a requirement but it's also a requirement here even though nobody does it.

Are you really anchoring off a line ? No chain ? Better get that changed for a very heavy chain real fast. I have a 49' Defever and have a 110 lbs anchor plus 140 mtr of 1/2 inch chain and trust me, I have needed it many times. There is no way I would anchor on a simple rope, no matter how thick that one may be. All that is holding you in a decent blow is the anchor plus the weight of the chain. If you have 35 - 40 kts of wind you will need a lot of weight to keep that boat in check. As for the rest I can only say: get up to speed real fast, boating is not something that you can do like driving a car for the very first time in your life. A car won't sink, a boat will and it can kill you.

You really need to reconsider your plans. You aren't ready for this.

Just an observation, but I’m not sure if you have access to pull that plug after you’ve lifted the dinghy out of the water as water is heavy specially if you have a chain problem, etc.

I have a 391 in Merritt Island also. Since you’re pulling your props I’m curious…..are you able to reach rated RPM at WOT with the boat loaded for your trip? May be a good time to take some pitch out as 391s are notoriously overpropped from the factory. Also….a bridle won’t stop a 391 from swinging at anchor…..the bow cleats are too close together. It will help snub the rode though.

Not sure why you even use two anchors? If you get one good set of ground tackle you don’t need a second anchor. We cruise full time and anchor out every night. Never used a second anchor. Good luck.

Ok so please don't use a 2nd anchor. Ever. Let your boat swing with the wind thru 360 deg. You're going to have HUGE problems if you keep dropping a 2nd anchor. Also you need to use chain instead of rope on your primary anchor with a snubber. May as well do it right from the get go. Oh and dont pull the plug out of the dinghy until its onboard. Oh and unplug your shore power and close the compartment the cord is sitting in when travelling. Keep up the filming and adventuring. Good on 'ya.

Aren't you a little concerned about losing your anchor using rod, instead of chain. Look like you also wasn't using a snubber on your anchor line.

It wasn't the wind, it was you. Don't blame your lack of talent on the wind. You had plenty of engines, thruster, power, rudder to make that move easily with just even a little bit of talent. You are dangerous by yourself on that boat. Any boat. Especially when training is readily available.

You cut the rest of the line from secondary anchor when You can't get it in and drop the spare line into the water??? You know that water will solve it over next 1000 years and fish eat the particles. Stop doing things like that! Being a beginner does not excuse everything! And please, mind what others say in comments: Don't get hurt! Why not hire a "second officer". Too proud? You can do solo-trips later.

I watched your latest video where you put out 2 anchors. Let me ask, what would you have done if for some reason you had to move the boat in an emergency or the primary anchor didn't hold? As a suggestion, since youre alone, keep things simple. I've seen real disasters where the boat dragged its primary anchor and it fouled the second anchor causing it to break free and drift onto a lee shore. Worse you could have fouled both anchors and not been able to retrieve either. You have to think ahead when you're single handing a boat of that size.
