EQ2 Origin Beta CASH SHOP! + Updates and Patches

Where I kind of update some changes done within the Anashti Sul (Origin Server) BETA server but more importantly going over the bigger Cash Shop points.
The Origin Server is an EQ2 TLE that will keep the things back to 2006 while this server will not be affected by the changes of the Live Servers.
It's currently in Beta and to get access to the Beta all you have to do is get an All Access Sub to try it out. When the server launches all it will take is an All Access Sub to play it.

Looking forward to returning to EQ2 with this server, but nothing takes wind out of the sails like cash shop.

Woot, I was streaming the game the other day as a fixed live cam with music etc. and I had the in-game chat enabled because it's interesting to see what folks talk about and the ppl in the chat were talking about how they don't want a cash shop etc. and each had their reasons, with some focusing on the Krono part that they don't like, but the general consensus was that they don't want a cash shop on a classic server that's meant to make you feel like it's 2006 again. Imo, there was no cash shop back then and so there shouldn't be one today on Origins, not even for cosmetic or fluff stuff.

Thankfully theres no Korno on this server..... for now. But hopefully they they take some of this to heart and make the right changes.

Those over the top mounts that you find in live are going to make Origins look like a circus... bleh... 🤮 Really hope they reconsider and not allow those non era mounts into Origins.

It’s amazing how my brain upscales old games. Like, in my memory from EQ2 launch it was near photorealistic and seeing this now completely destroys that. Not the first nor the last time it’ll happen either lol

we are seeing more pixels nowadays which causes us the see the low res textures better

Yeah, that's why a number of game companies are doing highly successful remasters or even remakes of their old games nowadays. Take Ocarina of Time 3DS, Tomb Raider Classic, System Shock, Turok 1-3 remasters and remakes for example (and even more extreme are the Resident Evil and soon to come Silent Hill Remakes). Slide in either of these games in their enhanced form and you'll feel like it's that day and age again, and you'll love it for the most part. It'll make you think the graphics in the remakes/remasters is how these games looked all along, because that's how your memory of these games was back in the old days. Then you play the original and realize that the original version looks and feels much older, dated, low-res, low fps etc. The old games I mention are golden in their original form, but they have most certainly aged with time, and seeing them shine in a bright new and enhanced light, a light that is faithful to their original vision nonetheless, makes it an even better experience for ppl revisiting these worlds decades later. That's why I've been promoting the idea of doing some refurbishing work for EQ2 in the EQ2 forums. Not sure if you've seen it, but check out how FF14 is getting a visual overhaul this year. Or how Black Desert Online did the same. Or how even a less known mmo like Mabinogi is going from 2004 era visuals to Unreal 5 for its entire game world despite its smaller community. Heck, even Anarchy Online got a brand new game engine based on Age of Conan's Dreamworld engine. It can be done.

Great video, pretty much completely agree on all points about the "up for consideration" stuff on the cash shop. I'm not convinced that they "get it" on what actually makes a classic experience special. In 2006 we couldn't buy all that stuff, so seeing cool things in game meant the player earned them by playing the game, and negating that is a huge part of the experience, conscious or not. Mounts are absolutely pay to win, especially on a TLE. They also look ridiculous and change the tone of the world. Best case scenario they add a level requirement, but they won't. XP pots are garbage but I'm guessing there's no wiggle room there either. Just seeing the things slipping already makes me less and less excited for the TLE.

Theres currently a level 15 requirement to use the mounts but yeah that won't do much.

It's not out it's currently in the BETA. No recent News as to when the server is actually launching but last they said was late June.

What 2006 version? Cause the Fallen Dynasty patch in 2006 ruined crafting and so if it's post that, I have no interest. Also I remember in Feb of that year they changed the class system too.... So it wouldn't be origins if it didn't have the old class system. And are all the voice overs back? But I dunno seeing this video and how dead it is, that's pretty sad. I remember in beta and the early days the city was ram packed and that gave it so much life.
