For compressible fluids you need the second equation for conservation of mass. I purposefully left it out here so I could just concentrate on one equation, but it is equally just as important.

I was always wondering with the navier stokes incompressible bit , if the that equals zero how come the terms in the navier equation doesnt vanish as well for example du/dx term in the continuity equation must be zero , so that term in the navier stokes equation must vanish too , yet it’s still in there multiplied by u, being udu/dx
@TomRocksMaths
@TomRocksMaths 4 жыл бұрын
Ah, be careful. du/dx will only be zero for the 1D case. Otherwise, it's the sum of velocity derivates that is zero, which means you can't necessarily simplify the second equation.

2:10 the description of F=ma given here is incorrect. F describes the net force that ball of mass m would need to have that particular acceleration a. Force that it would impart on a wall is related to the time that the collision took and involves impulse.

The reason that the Navier-stokes equation fails is because it is based upon things like conservation of mass and energy, when the reality is that intermolecular collisions are inelastic, hence the conservation rules are only rough approximations that completely fail in things like turbulence. Please see my paper that just came out. Google journal "EJERS" click on "Archives" click on "Jan 2020" and my paper is near the bottom of the list title "Illusions of elastic..." by Kent w Mayhew. "Navier-stokes" is nothing more than "oh what a tangled web we weave when at first we fail to perceive" Thanks for your time Kent
