Thanks, Max. I accidentally discovered Blu-Tack when a pack of kneadable erasers were faulty and broke up when formed into points. I use the Blu-Tack in sheer desperation... and I've used nothing else since. It's just so much better in use than a kneadable eraser. And - you'll have to this yourself to appreciate the benefit - whatever it picks up, it NEVER puts back down onto the paper. It just absorbs it completely.

Try it. You won't be disappointed. I have a tutorial on its use on my website that will help you too. I've used nothing else for many years. It's so versatile that, in my opinion, nothing else comes close to fulfilling its usefulness. And there are two more videos available at DWM that demonstrate its uses too.

And I definitely would NEVER use an eraser to create light hairs. Erasers create soft-edged lines. Hair possesses very hard and sharp edges. I've got that covered, Kathleen. I tried a carbon and graphite mix in the early days, but like you and charcoal, I soon gave that up and decided I'd be a "graphite purist". :) But, as you said, the sheen on the shiny plates of graphite is a problem. Then I discovered matte fixative - aka Workable fixative. It dries with a matte finish that removes almost all the sheen, and the blacks pop!
