I needed to cut some porcelain tiles and so I have bought a new Erbauer tile cutter from Screwfix - I paid the full advertised price. It is an excellent machine but needed a better blade. At the end of this video I also show how to drill into porcelain tiles.

Excellent video. I just needed to change the cutting disc, and had no idea how to do it. Also that the blade cover has to be screwed in before it can be tucked under the lid. I was struggling. Thank you. Top video, no excruciating music just a good clear voice.

Very good video, even with instructions it's helpful to see the assembly done right. I borrowed a manual tile cutter that was assembled with the guide just off square by about 3mm but it showed on large tiles. Simple set up tips like aligning the bracket, checking the guide is straight and changing the disc saves a lot of damaged tiles. Well done Peter.

What a genuinely nice individual you are. Nice to know that great people are still out there. Stumbled across the video as have decided that I need to buy a tile cutter despite only having very limited requirements for it. I have been considering the model from Wickes, but having seen the quality of this one I may well decide to purchase the Erbauer. If nothing else I will be more critical of the Wickes model to see if it comes up to scratch before buying.

As with almost all tile cutters - the supplied blades are usually poor quality and you need to invest in a good one. Thank you for the very kind remarks. Cheers. Peter

Great video, Peter! I’m currently in the process of a renovating the bathroom and I found the Screwfix/Erbauer suction cup style drilling guide (available in the set of 4 bits) to be a godsend with those types of diamond drill bits.

I have one of the own brand versions of this machine, and the reservoir plug is a hollow tube, which ensures that it can’t be over-filled. I should have invested in the better blade though.

Hi Peter, My experience with a similar tile cutter was the same as yours. The blade was poor quality and there was a lot of chipping. I replaced it with a hefty manual cutter from Topps Tiles ( cost about £35 as I recall) which was much faster and gave a pretty clean cut, maybe not quite as good as your new blade but certainly acceptable. It's a pity you can't buy the electric versions without the cutting wheel as most seem to share the same problem of poor quality wheels. A very good video. Mike

Nice video Peter. The finished tile job looks very tidy and professional indeed. I have found that Erbauer make pretty very good power/hand tools , but their cutting devices ,e.g., blades , drill bits and router bits leave a lot to be desired ( to put it mildly). I replaced any original bits or blades with higher quality ones as soon as I buy the tool. I recently bought an Erbauer 5 flute "wood beaver" type drill bit, and it was probably the most useless tool I've ever purchased. Blunt , and with 5 flutes there is no room for material to travel up the flutes, especially dense ( possibly slightly damp) MDF. It just left an oval , torn out hole.

Hi Jesse, Yes, for some silly reason manufacturers or suppliers always seem to put the cheapest blades/cutters in the tools as supplied. For just a few pounds more (at wholesale prices) they could instantly up their game and get better feedback. Festool always supply the very best with their tools. Cheers. Peter

I ran mine (not an Erbauer) without the guard and overfilled the water reservoir (gives a better cut). Know what you mean about the water flicking. Use sheets of carboard, especially when working inside.

Yep Wickes did the same machine branded as there own and yes very wet. But way cheaper than the Rubi equivalent which stated the blade could not cut porcelain

Great video. I bought this model after watching the video. I am new to tile cutting and a casual DIY user. The issue I am having is that I really had to push tiles instead of sliding with relatively ease. I was wondering if have same issue? Hence slighly disappointed with the cutter but this could be due to my own inexperience rather then the tool itself. (btw I have bought another disc as some of the comments here suggested)

Try to let the blade do the work by not pushing too hard. With porcelain tiles you will need to push a bit but the quality of the blade is important as well as making sure the water level is sufficient. Cheers. Peter

This is not woodwork related! Seriously though, Peter. Always great when you upload a YT video! A good little tip - place something in front (large piece of carboard). This catches the spray of water flicked which can be a problem when working inside a property - especially as I like to run mine over filled with water. Kind regards, Stakker.

@@NewBritWorkshop Forgot to mention, mine isn't an Erbauer - think it's a Tilemaster. The blade supplied appears to be of a better quality to the Erbauer. Otherwise the machines are much of a muchness. Didn't get any chip out, but that could depend on the type of tile I used.

A few years ago I left my tile cutter on the ground in the garden, with the table removed, and went inside to get a drink. When I came out, the reservoir was almost empty - a neighbour's cat was drinking the slurry! Fortunately it didn't seem to do it any harm.

To stop break out at the end turn the tile upside down and cut 25-50mm in from where the cut would finish then turn tiles back upright and cut the the tile as normal then the tile should not have break out
