ercol employees talk about ercol, the craft of making and designing furniture and the joys of working with real timber. This was originally a 16mm cine film and was made in 1987. It shows our old sawmills near Amersham and our old factory at High Wycombe, including the timber kilns. We have subsequently moved to a new, purpose built factory just up the road in Princes Risborough.
Interviews include with Lucian and Barry Ercolani, the sons of our founder (with a wonderful snippet of Mr Lucian sharing some snuff with an employee!) and with our former Managing Director and timber expert Tom Dean. We still make the windsor cabinets and the swan chairs shown in the film, and our evergreen upholstery has a chair back hand bent in a similar fashion to that shown.
