I was in Issyk-Kul area this summer. It was August and I chose to stay in a boz-ui or yurt near the lake shore. It was wild, no traffic, no noise and especially no annoying people yelling and screaming. It was dead silent. I could see stars, they were way closer to me, but was scary. Too dark and no civilization. Me and my wife alone in the wilderness, where coyotes were laughing or howling, whatever. Had to lock the front door, I was not ready to see a Yeti there. Man, it was cold! It was a summer time. One needs a heater even during summer time to sleep in a yurt in Issyk-Kul. If you happen to travel, make sure it has a portable heater.

The average build time for a house in New Zealand is 14 months. We could learn a great deal. I now wonder what kind of planning consent I'd need to have a yurt here? It seems to me a far more sensible way to build. It's not like we don't have trees and plenty of sheep.

I used to live in yurt with my grandparents during summer times when I was little. They would add the stabilization straps to anchor the entire house to the ground to pull down and tie to the wood or metal stakes when there were storms with strong winds. And still you can hear and feel tent vibrating, bending and trying to fly away so it was scary. Sometimes we were afraid yurt will just get flipped over - never happened though - somehow some laws of aerodynamics were considered and incorporated into design and construction of the yurt. I know nothing about tornados, we don’t have those in my homeland.
