Eren's attack on Marley is for sure one of the best moments in the series, its the first time that he clearly isn't playing around and also isn't completely in the dark about his situation. Up until then he basically only ever goes all out at times when he also is very ignorant about the bigger situation around him.

I'm pretty postive that's what happend, maybe re read it again with the offical Kodansha translation, the fan translation that first came out was fairly inaccurate and butchered a lot of the lines, Eren's regret and the inevitability of the situation was what I remember reading. I agreeing the ending's not perfect especailly the pacing, but the stuff like Eren's regret is 100% in there and is what made the ending good to me imo.

Guys, that is NOT what happened. He did NOT stand on his decision. He said his goal was to annihilate each and every person outside the walls so that Paradises safety would be ensured. That's not what he did. He retconned himself. And he didn't even do it out of regret, but because he suddenly fell in love with Mikasa which he obviously wasn't before.

Ima keep it real, I think Eren looking weak at the ending is *exactly* the point. All this time, he's been putting on this stoic persona, shrugging off the most traumatic shit, isolating himself from everyone who cared about him, all to pursue his single goal. But that isn't actually Eren--Eren is that emotional ass kid you saw the other three seasons, and now that it's all over, he's failed, and he's about to die, he drops the bullshit and is his honest to god, immature kid self in front of his best friend. I'd be a mess too after all that, about to die, in my last moments with my homie

Stop the fucking cap. He’s never shrugged off anything traumatic that has happened to him. He’s reacted to every single one of them. When his mom died, his friends, his father, sasha, and way more. The while point of him was to move forward and keep on moving. That has been his drive. Hadn’t you seen it in the entire series? He went from having enough drive/strength to rip off his fucking hands, cutting his leg and stabbing his eye to being a little bitch. Like wtf bro

I don't disagree with you. I think thats exactly what they were going for. I can't speak for other people but the reason I didn't like it was because they decided to go that route with Eren's character at all. I really did not like Eren in the first 3 seasons and having him revert or even reveal that he was always like that just feels so disappointing. Like everything I had liked about the character for the whole season, his progression and growth was just a lie.

I actually really liked the way Eren cracks in the end regarding Mikasa. This entire series we've watched him always be super tough on her. Yes, he clearly cared about her, but there was always this huge emotional distance between them that made their relationship feel really one-sided Now we look at the timeskip where Eren has been on devious timing the entire season and we're slowly understanding that no, Eren has not become some jaded supervillain; he is as emotionally complex as ever, but he genuinely feels like he has no choice if he wants to protect his people. He has essentially kept all of his feelings bottled up this entire time and now here his best friend Armin has finally reached him and dragged those feelings out of him. It makes sense that he didn't just crack. Dude's emotions exploded because he's quite literally at his limit with it all. It isn't pretty. It's messy as hell, but it feels like it should be. Eren having such a messy and undignified expression of his feelings really sells for me how broken he really feels at that moment. It makes me really believe that this guy, who is personally ensuring the genocide of thousands, if not millions of people, still has genuine love in his heart and hates what he's had to do with every fiber of his being.
@chrisf2024
@chrisf2024 11 ай бұрын
Ur almost right, except that Eren literally states he's doing what he's doing because he wants to do it for himself. Because his idea of the outside world upsets him. He's a childish fucking baby who can't compromise with anything that isn't how he wants it to he. He does care about his friends though, which ended up causing his downfall. But let's be very clear; Eren Yeager, if he did not see the future, would still have murdered the entire world, mostly for the cause that he wants it to be his empty oyster. In reality, he's never been the protagonist. He's the ultimate antagonist who's never changed his behavior; his behavior just changed according to the story, which in turn exposes that he's never been a hero, just a selfish, spoiled brat who lost.
@chrisf2024
@chrisf2024 11 ай бұрын
I'll also even say that he does "care" about the innocent people he's going to kill. But he doesn't care about that more then his stupid idea of freedom that's literally copy and paste from a fucking picture book. He sheds his tears about it, but at the end of the day, murdering the entire planet is worth it for HIM SOLELY, not his people.

Yes ... but also no Eren having an emotional breakdown makes sense but WHY and HOW it happened, was portrayed and what brought it our was utterly disgusting, 1st of all he already had years to decide and reconcile with the Rumbling and the choice HE made, why is he suddenly being like Reiner and crying about it and changing his mind when in the same chapter he said he'd have finished it??? And why THE FUCK was he crying over Mikasa when EVERYTHING and EVERYONE Else was more important???? And where did these sudden feelings come from but straight outta Isayama ass becoz he gave in to FANGIRLS when it was unambiguously clear he didn't feel the same for Mikasa??? And even IF he did he as also made it abundantly clear he didn't want to be with her _anyway_ because he wanted her to 1)get over him and 2) be with someone else someone better Thars a decision he made years ago why is he still crying over it now??? Nah fuck that whole chapter

@@observantwonderer7401 "Why is he suddenly being like Reiner and--" That's part of the point of the discussion he had with Reiner in the Marley arc, that they're the same kind of person. He also doesn't overprioritize Mikasa-- that breakdown lasts a panel, and he immediately reflects on the destruction he'll cause and the people he'll murder in his wake.

I think the loop to it all starting when his mom got killed and then discovering later that he was the one that made it happen also has a clever contradiction to Eren feeling free. He’s free in that his choices have dictated his path, but he’s had to make the choices because of the way he manipulated past events. He is the ultimate hero, and villain of the story.

TLDR: Why I didn't completely hate the eren bertholdt thing. I didn't hate it when I found out about it because the way I saw it was that inside of his spiral into madness everything began to crumble until he had no choice but to do it. His obsession with "freedom" lead him to a point where he became trapped into writing his own story. Like when he told Levi back when Armin was "dying" He had become so filled with hate that nothing else mattered, he stopped caring about the dream of the ocean and freedom and instead turned it into a hatred of the world. His nature became so contorted from seeing how cruel the world was that his dream of freedom turned into bitterness, back when he fought Annie- one of his friends and finding out that she came from the outside world and yet wanted to kill him; instilled a rage that lead to the berserker moment and him saying "I'll destroy this world" He became shackled to that rage so much that eventually he lost who he was and by the time he had finished manipulating every other attack titan user, by the time he got up to seeing that titan going for bertholdt he was just like "it has to be done there's no other way- I can't stop this now." I think the delivery of it was done horribly but the actual build up and symbolism of it I think was a really good representation of madness and how hate can make us do such hypocritical things in the name of satiating it.

The AOT timeline is apparently a fixed one, meaning there was absolutely nothing Eren could have done to not wind up the way he did. He and every other character had a pre determined fate. What makes it confusing and annoying to many fans is how involved eren was in his own fate, making it seem like he had a choice when in reality he never did. He dreamed of a freedom no one could ever have, that’s what makes his story so sad to me

When it comes to his mom, remember Keith's story? The way Grisha reacted. Secondary push required to gain that power, without that power, in the end everyone would be dead. Either way her legs get crushed and lives in a wheelchair until that day. His mom's gonna get murdered by people across the sea or a titan. And if it was that day Mikasa doesn't have to die, or Armin, or his other friends of the survey corps. Or he could try redirecting titans and lose the power and be rendered unable to save her anyways. And let's say Grisha chooses to give him the power anyways, it's likely she would be sent to be purged by titans later anyways, they sent every single adult, capable of fighting or not. And that's assuming some other titan didn't eventually walk along and eat her anyways. Let's say Hannes got Dina, the reason Eren and the people of the walls were trying to advance Zeke's plan was that Eren realized how the founding titan power worked, because of Dina. I doubt they would have gone for it, and would probably be screwed. Again assuming Grisha would pass the titan on anyways without the extra motivation of losing his shit a second time despite his regrets with the royal family. He had no freedom to deviate from the path, imagine being the one to realize, shit, no matter what I do my mom dies, if I try to save her she dies, if I deal the blow my other loved ones can live. Either way she's dead and I have to deal the final blow? That's a fucked situation to be in. The ultimate case of powerlessness. Either way it's horrible, but imagine the dilemma in his head and having no choice but to do it, ripping his heart apart even further. Both evil and right. Straight up tragic. Even more powerless than the day he watched her get eaten as a kid.

I think part of the reason eren led the titan to kill his mom and the path he was led down was all for the moment of free'ing ymir from eternal suffering. It's pretty complex because mikasa was key for ymir to truly understand of "letting go" of who you love the most. In the end ymir was free from her love of fritz and didn't create titans anymore and the world was free of the curse of titans. This my take

I remember when the chapter dropped the way I interpreted it and the way it was explained was EREN DIDNT KILL HIS MOM but rather could've saved her, but since he didn't save her, thus causing her death, blaming himself for "killing his mom". Cmon EREN didn't actually kill his mom, that's way too dark but he loves his mom, same way he would never have had killed armin n Mikasa.

Yes Eren send the titan to kill his mom, he even skipped Berutoruto to make sure the chronological order goes right. With the founding and attack titan power he could see the future so I assume he knew that if a small difference happens in the timeline it could doom Eldia's fate entirely (kinda like avengers end game thing). Remember that his goal is to save Eldia and his friends (although Eldia was still doomed in the end but his friends did have a time of peace). So He killed his mom to ensure that the past him will get motivated to be the person he will be in the future in order to save Eldia. IF he didn't do this perhaps Eldia couldn't be saved.

I understand why Eren broke down in front of Armin cuz at the end of the day, he’s still just a young man. He’s only 19, genocided a bunch of people, and is about to let himself die for the sake of his friends. Eren never got to live a regular life and it’s normal to feel jealousy for not being able to live a normal life, being with the woman he loves, or just in general his best friends.

No. What you don't understand is that this was never the case. This was completely made up in the last chapter. Eren originally did the rumbling to save the Eldians (and possibly his wife and child, but to avoid being called a shipper I just leave that part out) and he was ready to sacrifice everything for it. Both his family (as he did) and his friends (as he also did, watch Sasha and Hange). He suddenly retconned himself right at end which leads to Paradise getting destroyed. He did it all for nothing.

After watching the AOT finale I was able to finally watch the end of this video and I couldn't disagree more. Eren crying to Armin ab Mikasa felt so off bc youve seen him have the alpha male version of him for so long. However, he only does this bc he knows that it's just Armin who can hear this so he can be honest with his feelings. Remember, Eren's brain at this state is a baby, kid, and adult simultaneously. So here he was finally able to be vulnerable and break down and confess his true feelings the way he wanted to all this time since he knew he was gonna erase Armin's memory shortly after. He's just a kid after all who had to put up a front in the real world from the end of S3 on so that all his friends can live long lives

I lowkey disagree about the Eren’s mom point. Yeah it seems contradictory at first, but look at season 4 Eren. He lets Sasha die, tells his best friends he hates them, purposefully becomes an enemy of the world to give his friends hero status; season 4 Eren does what he has to. His mom dying served two purposes: the first being the one he states in the manga, Armin wouldn’t be able to become the colossal titan; the second is his mom dying is what kicks off his revenge on the titans which leads to the series we know. If his mom hadn’t died, Grisha probably never would’ve given Eren the attack/founding titan or if he did later the timeline would still probably be hella different from the one we got.

The ending was perfect. As perfect as it could have been. The people whining about it are the ones who had painted Eren as someone he had never been. He is not some "sigma male chad God" and some incel's wet dream. He is a 19 year old kid who went through horrors beyond imagination with powers that give him some semblance of control over what he can do to stop it, living in a world that wants to wipe him and his entire people off of the map. He is a broken kid that is basically alone with all this burden. He wants freedom, he wants love and friendship and he can't have any of them and is forced to make decisions that will break and shatter literally anyone's soul and mind. And all of that is shown at the end when the world is quite literally ending for him. I loved his character in all its tragedy and I love this show more than any other show I've ever watched or will watch.

I disagree again with eren controlling the titan to kill his mum. It shows just how much he is trapped within the cycle of hatred like you said. Let me explain. He knew he was going to have to walk this path so that within this world of war and hatred his friends will be able to be seen as hero's at least for a brief period they will be able to have some peace. For that to happen his mum would have to die so he can walk that path showing just how trapped he is within the cycle. Also in terms of how he reacted with the mikasa thing, the only reason i think people don't like that scene is because just like you they are delusional about how they see themselves. We are not "stoic alpha male gods" all the time were all people who hurt and have weak, pathetic moments and not just "weak moments that make us look strong". Actual weak moments where we look pathetic thats the side only our brothers get too see. This scene shows just how human eren is and for once he drops his facade and shows how much he loves mikasa and how much he's afraid of death. It was a genuine human side to him that only his best friend gets to see.

Part of the Issue with his break down is that alot of people see the whole crushing over misaka thing as bad writing. Like seriously, she's essentially been into him the whole show and he's show no interest then suddenly it all changes.

If he doesn't do the rumbling, Paradis WILL be destroyed. In the alternate ending it was properly established. So in that sense, Eren had no choice but to do the rumbling as that's the only way forward, destroy the rest of the world and save paradise. However, does Eren himself want to do the rumbling? Yes he does because the world is cruel, he was also disappointed with the world, hence he did it. But in saying this, if he could have done it differently to get an outcome, he would have. That's why he continued the rumbling, even after Zeke died. He saw the future after he fully activated the rumbling (not before because going in he just wanted to do it) that the only way the Titan curse can end is if Eren dies at the hands of Mikasa, and everything must happen exactly as it did for her to kill him, he ran different simulations but only 20% would survive no matter how he tries. In other words, as a founder, if he could have seen a different outcome after becoming a Founding Titan, he would have done so, but the only outcome is kill 80% die by Mikasa hand, End Titan curse, because That's the only way Ymir become strong enough to break her bond with The late King. Summary 1)Eren had to do the rumbling. 2)Eren wanted to do the rumbling. 3)Eren plan to kill 100% of people outside the walls 4)When Eren got full power, he discovered that killing 80% and dying in the hands of Mikasa will end all Titan curse (he didn't know that before going in) he tried to see if he could kill less people, but he couldn't. 5) Eren killed his mom because of what he saw as founder, that everything must be as it is. No changing.

"Show, don't tell" definitely isn't bad, but people can treat too much like a law to never be brokem. It's more of a "rule of thumb" or general guideline. You can show, tell, show and tell but it's all in the execution. For example, Bleach does "show, don't tell" the most out of the Big 3 and a lot of its nuance went over many heads and had many declaring it to be the weakest of the Big 3 and undeserving of Big 3 status by WAY too big of a margin WAY too easily. Someone saying that Bleach is the best of the Big 3 series evokes the most controversy as it's a hotter take than someone claiming that for One Piece or Naruto. Then you got Togashi, who does a lot of telling, especially in Hunter x Hunter. It serves its role well with how "tell" estblishes a lot... and led to Nen NEVER being excluded from the topic of best power systems (it is VIP with backstage passes). Only thing is that Togashi ain't a hand holder (which I can respect). For him, if you old enough to read, you old enough to remember and he won't repeat himself much, so you better be able to answer those fill in the blanks questions as he proceeds to show out (no True or False or multiple choice). Even his narrations, if some don't rock with it, do have their place in the narrative (though I know manga and anime are different experiences). That's part of why HxH readers tear a casual apart if they talk out of line and call something BS/plot hole cuz Togashi already gave you the syllabus, blueprint, and FAQs. It's kinda like One Piece where even Oda has told people to reread an arc if they got something twisted (or a fan pointing out foreshadowing you missed), like Gon's transformation being what we see Kurapika do, but to the highest degree (and people saying its BS cuz they didn't put all the puzzle pieces together). At the end of the day, it's all in the execution. It's like how some people have the nastiest looking shot in basketball, but if they keep making points with it, even when contested... you really can't say anything 😂

I have to COMPLETELY 1000000% DISAGREE with what he said about the side charecters. First of saying that the side charecters are lackluster is ridiculous. Each side charecter in my opinion gets substantial charecter development and a very well written backstory. They all have layers to them and we see them grow throughout the series. This is one of the few shows where pretty much every side charecter could easily be the main charecter. Although i will agree that eren is definitely the best protaganist. As far as your comments about the "dump of information" when you start the final season and the timeskip. Hey i get it some of us are a little slow. So just re-read if there are parts you don't understand i know i did and once i understood it perfectly it just got way better. This anime was a flawless masterpiece imo.

Mxm Mikasa aint the love if his life, thats his adoptive sister. At no point in the series did the manga or anime or OVAs say that, abd no point did Eren ever say/think/imply/hint that he could ever or would ever love her, in fact what Isayama, the Manga / anime and Eren himself did say, quite blatantly and for the entire time was not only did he not love mikasa but he hated her feelings for him and he actively wanted her to stop and get the f*** over him

@@wiswcbitch the same is true with step siblings the fact is you can't fuck because that's fricken gross!! Mikasa was LITERALLY ADOPTED BY THE YEAGERS, Grisha and Carla called Mikasa their DAUGHTER, Eren refers to them as *our* (as in his and MIKASA'S) parents, Mikasa called Carla and Grisha mom and dad, heck Mikasa continues to call Eren her FAMILY! But aside all of that were in the manga/anime/series does Eren EVER say/think/imply/hint that he thinks of Mikasa romantically AT ALL??? Where is it even SLIGHTLY hinted by him or Isayama that Eren ever romantically loved Mikasa or WANTED her to love him at all??? Nowhere, literally nowhere outside of the LAST chapter which is a complete retcon of Eren as a character and the entire series, what _was_ shown and said? The complete opposite, that Eren doesn't love Mikasa and infact hated her feelings and how she'd act because of them and that he wanted to GET THE FUCK OVER IT, even Isyamama wanted that

11:41 I disagree because “To get the Soul Stone, Thanos, you must sacrifice that which you love most.” Just like Thanos, Eren had to choose, and also just like Thanos, he felt like he had no choice but to choose kill her. Really, neither one of them “had” to do any of this, they just couldn’t let go of their own simultaneously self-aggrandizing, self-righteous, yet also woe-is-me delusions.
