Badge will aways be my #1 classic rock song. Just an amazing song. Wife asks what do the lyrics mean? Don't know. You'll have to ask Ringo when he was blabbing out loud during great guitar play while being drunk/high. Can you imagine being a fly on the the wall with Clapton, Harrison, & Ringo while writing this epic tune. They were partying & running out a classic. Just F'ing amazing song.

While writing the song, Harrison wrote the word "Bridge" for where the bridge was supposed to go. Clapton couldn't read George's writing and mistook the word for "Badge". Hence the name.

Back in those days the cameraman always used to focus on Eric when a solo was going on; as happened here during the second solo initially. The second solo was actually George Terry who was an amazing guitarist. In this concert he also took the solo when Yvonne Elliman did "Can't Find My Way Home". Still one of my favourite concerts of all time. The full Old Grey Whistle Test concert is on YT.

The one question everybody asks about this song is Harrison's role in it. On the original recording Harrison is listed as rhythm guitar. But as far as I can tell he played the break. The sound of his Rickenbacher is unmistakable, and none of Clapton's live performances ever duplicate that sound. I saw Clapton in 75 at the Cow Palace, and Harrison actually came out and played his part of the song. Unbelievable. The crowd was blown away.

I saw EC and this band on the "Ocean Blvd." tour in Shreveport in 1975 with the late, great Texas Bluesman Freddie King as the opening act. EC and Freddie did a 30 minute encore set of some of the most tremondous guitar interplay I have ever witnessed. Love this band with female singers Marcy Levy and Yvonne Elliman on stage and back up. They each had a starring tune with EC and Marcy blew it up with "Lay down Sally". EC is not GOD, but he is Da MAN!!!

And we all know how the title became, "Badge". But, if anyone out there doesn't... Clapton saw George Harrison who was writing the "Bridge" for the song. From looking at it upside-down, Clapton thought George had written, "Badge" as the song's title. Love that Rock 'n' Roll lore. It confirms that it ALL wasn't always pulling things from some divine place. It was just stuff we all do everyday - save for the writing a classic song part.

I think it's really 1977 because the bassist (carl radle) plays a stingray bass and Leo Fender built the first in 1976 ;)

So amazing to see Carl Radle on bass, he was always a show to watch him play. And so wonderful to see the 70´s Clapton, before he mellowed out and started pouring out elevator music.

Reading a post on who played what on the original record......the arpeggio part that you'd swear was Harrison was actually Clapton......I believed he used a Dimension 4 for the chorus effect......Harrison was playing block chords C, G/B D underneath Clapton......the running joke was to imitate each other

But then, you have to ask yourself why they don't. Have you noticed that film soundtracks invariably only use music from yesteryear - it's rare that modern contemporary music is employed. Merry Christmas to you & yours !
