This is Clapton’s song. It was first played live with Derek and The Dominos. They started recording it for their second album, but Clapton got in an argument with drummer Jim Gordon, told him he’d never play with him again, and never did. 40 years later he asked Keyboardist/ co-vocalist Bobby Whitlock to finish recording his vocal part, and he did. Dark-haired guitarist next to Clapton is Doyle Bramhall Jr. His dad played drums with Jimmie and Stevie Ray Vaughan and co-wrote some of Stevie’s best-known songs. Stevie taught Doyle Jr to play guitar and was devastated by the helicopter crash.

Jim Gordon was a tragic figure. Paranoid Schizophrenia, convicted of killing his mother. Spent the rest of his life in prison.

Yeah, but the version off In Concert is a masterpiece.

Steve Jordan is killing it on the skins. One of the great session drummers. Played on a ton of hit records. Beyonce, Alicia Keys, John Mayer, and ton of others. He was also announced as the new drummer for Rolling Stones after Charle Watts passed.
@davidburton91369 ай бұрын
I swear I was watching this and thinking to myself, "Who's that drummer that looks like Steve Jordan?" Then I read your post. Cool. And you're right about how he was playing here...just a powerhouse of a drummer. He's also one of those drummers that can play any genre of music well, as you noted with all the people he played with. I was glad to see him get the Stones job. He and Keith are long-time friends, and he's so talented that picking him as the drummer for the Stones seemed the natural choice. If I remember correctly, Steve actually talked Keith out of retiring, and they went and recorded Keith's last solo album.

That other guy is Doyle Bramhall II. His dad is a famous blues drummer from Austin, Texas. My daughter and I had a date nite and saw DBII at Fayetteville, Arkansas and it was glorious. He was also in a one album band called Arc Angel's, which remains in my top 10 ever.

This song was originally written to appear on the second Derek and the Dominoes studio album which never happened due to the band breaking up. Instead it showed up on their live “In Concert” album that was recorded in 1970 (without Duane Allman) and released in 1973. There was a time when Clapton didn’t play it live very often, but the song makes pretty regular appearances in his setlist now.

Doyle Bramhall Jr. plays a left-handed Strat with the strings upside down - it's as amazing and extraordinary as driving a right-hand drive car on the left side of the road with your back to the windshield ;-)) What a great song and great musicians at this concert (I think it's the San Diego concert). Thank you for sharing and best wishes @all from Germany

" Just Like Sly You Gotta Take A Stand ". Hendrix & Clapton were at that show watching Sly And The Family Stone and Clapton had the Left Handed Strat for Hendrix. Next day , Clapton heard Hendrix passed away leaving Clapton holding the Left Strat meant for Hendrix .

You're right, the drummer is annoying?!? 80s shit. Take the 14'-version Live At Fillmore West 1970 with DatD, then you have a brilliant rhythm; for me like day and night. Apparently the tastes are so different.✌

Clapton had Crossroad tours for years, don't know if he does anymore. He brought out great talent with him, including his old Blind Faith band member, Steve Winwood. Steve does an incredible live version of his Rock n Roll Hall of Fame early band Traffic's Dear Mr Fantasy (with 2 drummers!) and Winwood and Clapton do their Blind Faith hit 'Can't Find My Way Home", with a young Derek Trucks joining them. Those are from 2007 Crossroads and well worth a reaction.

This performance was from one of the Crossroads Guitar Festival that Eric Clapton would host every 3 years for the last 20 some years and all the proceeds went to the rehab center in the Caribbean where Eric got clean. Most of the great guitarists of several generations played and collaborated together. BB King, Buddy Guy, Ronnie Wppd, Johnny Winters, etc. all played in the festivals, just to name a few. You should check some out. Loved when Derek Trucks joined Clapton and played the Duane Allman slide part on a couple of Layla songs. Blues legend Buddy Guy playing the Stones Miss You with young bluesman (at the time) Johnny Lang and Ronnie Wood from the Stones is also one of my favorites.

I would love to get your reactions to a group Eric Clapton wanted to join. 'The Band' that consisted of Levon Helms (vocals and drums, etc), Rick Danko (vocals and bass, etc), Robbie Robertson (guitar), Richard Manuel (vocals and piano, etc), and Garth Hudson (organ etc). Started together as Ronnie Hawkins backing band. They broke out on their own, introducing us to a new experience called 'Americana' music. The played Woodstock (69) and were asked by Bob Dylan to back him with a transition from his folk style to a electric style music. The Band call it quits with a lavish farewell show at San Francisco's Winterland Ballroom on Nov. 25, 1976. Filmed by Martin Scorsese, this documentary features standout performances by rock legends such as Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, Eric Clapton, Joni Mitchell and Muddy Waters, as well as interviews tracing the group's history and discussing road life. The top songs that I recommend to reacts to are from The Last Waltz: 1. Up on Cripple Creek 2. The Shape I'm in 3. Who do you love, with R. Hawkins 4. Don't do it And many, many, many others. Thanks!!!
