It’s in the way that he uses it….seeped in the 80s.

I have all these albums, bought most of them when they came out. Have been listening to them lately. I pretty much agree with your list except ANOTHER TICKET is no. 1. 80' for me. Especially like the drum sounds. JUST ONE NIGHT is a great live album.

As I said on my old wordpress page Behind The Sun gains in interest when you know how its backstory infects the songs (the unravelling of his marriage, involving two outside-women plus him and Patti trying to detox); Another Ticket - not an ideal portrait of the Albert Lee Era, but, as Christgau says, interesting that we have three songs about the narrator's imminent death, followed by a murder song (but, BBL it ain't); Eric said Just Like A Prisoner featured his best ever in-studio soloing, and at least one biographer agrees - it's overshadowed by Same Old Blues for obvious reasons.

Cool video series ... always interested to hear other perspectives ... I have grown to really appreciate Backless over the years and, yes, also have a soft spot for Behind the Sun ... I'm ok with August and Journeyman though and might have them elevated a wee bit ... saw Clapton on one of his nights (a rock nighr) at the Royal Albert Hall in 1991 and he and his super tight band were great (was in London for a business trip so took advantage of the evening before) ... always liked Slowhand and bits of 461 too ... got the box set of the debut solo record (with the multiple different mixes of the album) ... and none of the mixes are perfect ... got so frustrated that I actually picked out the best tracks (to me) and did some editing in Audacity to remove sloppy opening / closing sections, etc to get to a "CMcG" version of the album .... and it's that version that I play ... now I can enjoy the release... I will be interested to see what you make of the 1990+ era and to see if you dig out any nuggets there ... and especially to get your take on the Climie Fisher prduction on Pilgrim album and his continued influence on other bits of Clapton's catalogue thereafter ... saw him on the Pilgrim tour in Calgary (was there for 2 years with work) ... and he didn't play too much from the CD ... be interested in your take .... Thank for the comment. If you ever upload that personal mix of EC let me know. As for Pilgrim…..I got positive words for it.
