The jazzy interpretation, the sweet runs he does in the beginning, the beautiful reharmonization of the chords, and then to top it off I was not expecting a voice that rich. Absolutely incredible version.

His ability to bend the melody to any song , is unlike any other guitar I've seen. He takes a lot of chances and seems to always land on his feet.

I normally don't like anyone doing any of Jimi's versions, but this guy takes it and runs with it. Jimi was wanting to go in the direction of a more jazz approach before he died. I think he'd like this. There's several Hendrix tribute artists out there, but this guy is his own persona. Good going!

@@DBlairMusic Oh, I totally agree with you!! He is influenced by Jimi and if Jimi were around today he would be absolutely thrilled with him and what direction he has gone with his music. It was so hard for Jimi to do his own thing as people and management had him blocked into his old stage antics and note by note stuff. He wanted so badly to go this direction where he could be free with his music and style. Peer would be completely correct. No way would I ever imply Gales was any type of impersonator. :-)

A guitarist is NOTHING without the best bass and drum players-- and specifically those two accompanists. Why do you think John Mayer, Joe Pass, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimmy Page, Clapton were so adamant about who they play with in their core. If the rhythm section can't follow the performance is garbage.

Two weeks ago he went on the boards in Paks, and I was so lucky to listen to his concert. He's amazing. God bless him, and his guitar. Paks is little town in Hungary, but has a famous International Bluesfestival in every year. And we got the opportunity to know such a world star like him, Beth Hart, Josh Smith and so on. Come and see it next year, in July first week! :)

I've seen some of the very best in 50 years and I did. Eric lifts me off the ground to a place I haven't been since Jimi. None of the others had the feel or touch Eric does. None came close. If the others have gone as high as the moon Eric travels the universe with the spirit of Hendrix. God bless him and his family.

I don't know man, Eric is an amazing player but I don't know if his style would translate well with Maggot Brain or any Funkadelic stuff. He over plays a lot of times and he doesn't stick to the pocket enough to do the George Clinton stuff. Now his style works very well to showcase his immense talent but some songs are just not going to sound as good with his interpretation. I think Maggot Brain is one of them. Call me crazy but....... 🙂

except Jimi restrung his guitar and changed the nut to do so this guy Eric Gales is absolutely mind blowing to play like that with the string order backwards

i used to play like that when i started and i can vouch, it is alot harder to play some things! totally changes how you think of the fretboard and gales is totally talented for being able to do everything a normal oriented guitar can do (and more!)

It was BB king that told Jimi that he could change the order of the strings. Before that he also played with the strings reversed.

Eric is also right handed. So he's using the 'wrong' hands, on top of strings upsidedown.

I saw 'sublime version' in the description, and I was freaking out that Subilme did a cover! but no.....Eric Gale's arrangement is SUBLIME! thank you Eric Gale for bringing his sound to life for all of us to hear.
