Billionaire TV producer NORMAN LEAR may insist that he is "Just Another Version of You" in the documentary about his life. However, there is at least one person who feels differently about the producer of All In The Family, Good Times and The Jeffersons. Good Times co-creator ERIC MONTE was cheated out of 100s of millions of dollars in potential revenue for his involvement in creating some of TVs most beloved characters. In this exclusive clip from The Reelblack Vault (recorded in 2006), he dishes the dirt on exactly what happened that led to his being blackballed from Hollywood and eventually homeless. For those looking to break into Hollywood, Eric Monte's story is a cautionary tale. Eric Monte's new book, A PROPHET RANAWAY is now available on Kindle and in paperback at ericmontepublishing.com . Watch the Full 1 hour interview with writer Annette John-Hall only on RBTV. Special thanks Darrell K. Henderson. Camera: Mike D.

Eric Monte deserves back compensation from Norman Lears’s estate, for all the royalties and residuals he was cheated out of! Norman Lear’s children’s children are still benefiting from Eric Monte’s creations that made Norman Lear extremely wealthy! How do you think Norman Lear made it all the way to the ripe old age of 101?! Eric Monte probably won’t live anywhere near that age!

@@cpman1987 they owe him more than just back residuals, they owe him the keys to every studio in Hollywood. Every single one. Especially Columbia Pictures, who has been profiting off the fruits of their labor since 1985 when Coca-Cola, founded by an ex-Confederate soldier in an unsuccessful attempt to cure a war-era addiction, bought Embassy and Tandem. Even though they only owned it for four years before they dumped everything on Sony, it was still Lear (and Jerry Parenchio, without whom Lear could never have bought Avco Embassy) they made the deal with. George Jefferson’s dream will become a reality. I’ll see to that personally. #JusticeForEricMonte #JusticeForJJ #JusticeForGaryColeman

I want reparations for absolutely everything Norman Lear ever did, especially giving T0n¥ D@nz@ work after *Taxi* was cancelled. That thug should have gone to jail for assaulting a security guard. Instead, we paid for his crimes with one of the worst sitcoms ever, a ripoff of the mutually exclusive parts of *Gimme A Break!* and *Cheers.* They forfeited the right to throw shade at *Webster* for doing to *Diff’rent Strokes* what that show already did to *The Brady Bunch* first. And while we are on the subject, Emmanuel Lewis should get reparations for Paramount’s gatekeeping of the syndicated seasons of *Webster.* He owns a piece of seasons 4-6. To date, only seasons 1-4 (the ABC years) are on DVD. And everybody on that show should get reparations for being pushed off ABC for *Full House.* Especially Chad Allen even though he was on another show by that point. You’d have to be openly racist and homophobic to prefer that show. And Robert Iger was there every step of the way.

He was and is a total fraud in addition to being a buckbreaker. He isn’t funny. Nothing he has ever said himself is funny. His biography is barely readable. All of his writers did better work without him. Bud Yorkin came up with the idea to do *Diff’rent Strokes* but got none of the credit for it. Meanwhile, Lear treated his studio like an afterthought while launching a smear campaign against the American right and pushing a tr-nscult agenda even at the expense of Gays. He is no ally. He is the gravedigger of every civil rights and social reform movement in this country.

THIS IS A HATE CRIME AGAINST BLACK AMERICANS... NO OTHER RACE WOULD ALLOW THIS.. WOULD EUROPEAN JEWS ALLOW RACIST STEREOTYPES MADE INTO A NETFLIX SERIES... I THINK NOT. The New Good Times animated series on Netflix is a glorified stereotypical show that has damaged the image of the original Good Times family show that started in 1974 through 1979. The goal of the original Good Times show was to disrupt the flow of negative stereotypes about black families. This New series promotes violence, culture destruction of the Black community and alcohol abuse. This glorifies the degenerate, destructive behavior that some in MOST community's engage in, but this series aims to promote this as a normal behavior in the black community. It’s time to put a stop to this ANTI-BLACK Propaganda Racist Hate Crime By Netflix. This will lead to bad outcomes towards black people period. It will promote more hate, police brutalities as it reinforces the DEHUMANIZATION of a whole people like they did during the Jim Crow Era which lead to mass killings of innocent black Americans. BOYCOTT THIS TRASH. NETFLIX NEEDS TO BE CHARGED WITH PROMOTING A GENOCIDE.

Can’t have that, now can we?) and *Benson,* particularly the episodes where he is no longer the butler and actually has a political position. Never mind the last episode where he runs for governor. And do not throw the “poor sales“ excuse in my face. Tell that to my copies of all these shows on DVD.

What’s even worse is that people still believe the narrative once it has been discredited. They even give Lear credit for shows he had nothing to do with. I still have to point out to KZfaq video documentarians how many shows were made by his collaborators without him. Frankly, those hold up better.

George Jefferson was one of the greatest TV characters ever. He deserved MTM Enterprises-level writing, not to be stuck being shamed with gaslighting “you’re no better” false equivalences at a glorified grindhouse like Embassy, whose only hits after 1977 didn’t even credit Norman Lear at all. *Diff’rent Strokes, The Facts of Life, Silver Spoons, 227,* and especially *Married with Children* make me question whether Norman Lear was integral to the success of anything his name was actually attached to. He wasn’t credited on any of them, but every TV show that actually had his name in the credits concurrent with those five shows was a bomb. Notice how virtually nobody remembers *Palmerstown USA, aka Pablo,* or *Sunday Dinner,* and how at the twilight of his life, nobody in Hollywood wanted anything from him but rehashes of the same old same old when the OGs are still in reruns and mostly on DVD and have had the unfair advantage of never having to compete with *Amos ‘n’ Andy* in syndication or on anything remotely resembling a level playing field.

It is interesting that he never received credit for anything to do with the Jeffersons. According to his Wiki page, he wrote the script for 'All in the Family' that introduced the Jefferson characters in 1971 but according to the show's credits and IMDb, it was Jerry Mayer. But in his IMDb bio, it does say he successfully sued Norman Lear in 1977 for stealing his ideas (including The Jeffersons, Good Times and What's Happening) and won $1,000,000. Considering these show's legacies, that doesn't seem hardly enough. I'm not sure this makes Norman Lear a racist, per se, but it certainly makes him a sleazy businessman.

@@theotheleo6830 When you write _the first_ script for a show which serves as the basis for _the entire_ show, you deserve credit and consideration for the lifetime of that show. Would I call Norman Lear a racist? Not based on what was described here. The first person I would lash out against is Bernie Weintraub. Speaking as Mr. Monte, Weintraub's supposed to be _my_ agent, but he's also representing Turteltaub and Orenstein. Weintraub threw Monte under the bus by signing the rights to the production company formed by Turteltaub, Orenstein, Yorkin, and Lear knowing full well Monte didn't want to do business with Lear after the Jeffersons deal. Everything after that happens as a result of Weintraub's original agency violation. Normal Lear couldn't have stolen the idea if Weintraub didn't steal it first by conspiring to sell out Monte.

@@theotheleo6830The spinoff supporting characters were the product of Nicholl, Ross, and West, the same people who left to work for Don Taffner on *Three’s Company.* Taffner was also the first to syndicate *The Benny Hill Show* in the US, and the money from the UK-adapted ABC sitcom made that possible. No wonder NBC was willing to gamble on *Gimme A Break!* It wasn’t based on a British show and it wasn’t produced by Norman Lear, just the producers who took over AitF (Mort Lachman) and *The Jeffersons* (Sy Rosen) after NRW left Lear for Taffner. But they showed Lear was nothing without his collaborators and business partners. Could he have run Tandem without Bud Yorkin? The name of the company is literally “a bicycle built for two,” just like HAL sang in *2001: A Space Odyssey* but without Kubrick’s mastery of the technical aspects of filmmaking, or even film! He certainly couldn’t have bought out Embassy without the assistance Jerry Perenchio. Just as Karl Marx is the weak link in Marxism (seriously, lefties, ditch him for Theodore Herzl), Norman Lear is the weak link in every Norman Lear show.

I find it VERY, VERY hard to believe that IF he in fact had "the proof and the evidence" as he said multiple times in this clip than NO lawyer in the whole "town" of Los Angeles would take the case?????????? Nope. He said himself he sued ABC. He also agreed to the million dollar settlement and the time was one week before - as HE says, the "statue" of limitations would expire - LOL. Eric Monte screwed himself because of his own inexperience and greed. He wanted to own the show What's Happening. But very few get that privilege. It takes decades, regardless of your race, to get to a position where you can own the rights to a TV show. He worked as a TV writer for about 3 years or so, and wanted to reach a position that took Norman Lear and others decades to achieve. Eric should have been happy with the "created by" credit. That alone would have netted him millions for a hit show. But he instead sued, and had to settle for $1 million. A third goes to the lawyers, and he squandered the rest from a drug addiction. He needs to own up to his mistakes and stop blaming others.
