ERIC'S NEW ZENAIR CH 601XL - Flight to Gt Oakley then Monewden / Near miss with a buzzard

3 жыл бұрынI fly with Duncan to Gt Oakley to help Eric get checked out on his new machine and ferry it to its new home at Monewden. The GoPro makes it look further away but that buzzard was close and passed only about 4 meters away. (271st weekly flying vlog)
I am not a qualified flying instructor nor do I ever claim to be a very good pilot. I fly for fun and basically record for my own interest and review but upload because a number of people have asked me to. I do try to edit for enjoyment and story telling and this means that some content is not always included.

That buzzard was VERY close and we missed each other by only about 4m 😮

Another fun video with lots of flying. I don't really understand when people have that "Oh no he's filming" reaction. Unless I'm doing something private I tend more towards playing-up to a camera than avoiding it. Although I've probably not always been like that. Perhaps its a modesty "nobody wants to see me" type thing? That Zenair looks like a tidy little aircraft.

Glad you enjoyed the video. I think they were just playing with me. I take a lot of stick over my filming and the time it takes to set up my cameras and sound recording. The Zenair is very nice and Eric is very pleased with the upgrade.

Thank you. This Zenair is a little different to the one he has just sold. The wing is thinner and this one has a 100 hp engine.

I do so enjoy this films, just lovely to see people enjoying life and flying, especially as we are locked within the borders of Malaysia for the foreseeable future and my Shadows in Northern Ireland

Well firstly, I’m glad you didn’t get any cameras “inserted” anywhere!!!! It was nice to see great Oakley again - I enjoyed my little stop there on the way up the east coast. That buzzard was bloody close wasn’t it!! I’ve had a couple of little incidents like that now - it certainly makes you think!!

The camera does not show just how close it came to us. For a split second I could easily make out feather patterns as it was no more than 3 or 4m away!

Looked to me Duncan was a little nervous on approach, keeping a close eye on the speed as the stall warner chirped away.🤣👍

Very enjoyable Tim . I’m always amazed how you find those airfields , top marks on your navigation skills . Was that John in the RV in your 5 o clock position at time 4:00 ? . My best wishes .

Thank you David. John was flying in formation and then whizzing off. Next week there is a close up of him holding position on my right wing. SkyDemon helps a lot with our navigation and many of these strips we have used for some time now! 👍 Stay safe

That's a nice looking plane! Does his XL include the reinforced wing spar? There was an accident in the Netherlands a decade ago, where the wing spar broke mid flight 😕 This XL will probably have that fixed? Oh, and don't forget to duck for buzzards? That was pretty close? 🙈 Nice vid, Tim! 👍🏻

Looks a lot more sporty than other Zenair low wing aircraft I have seen. Was that what you got up to on Monday? Looks like you have fun.

I wasn't expecting to have any time with my son and his family visiting but at the last moment he announced that he was meeting friends for lunch. I checked with John and he asked if I could help him and Eric, which I was pleased to do. Not long flights but a good couple of hours! How was Shuttleworth?

@@JodelFlyer Always nice to get an unexpected flight. I knew you had family over and expected you to be tied up with them, as it is always good to have time with family. I had a good flight and found what I wanted, as you will see from the video that should be up by now. Although I had a lot of editing isssues with this one for some reason.

Flying Kub -I have just watched your video. Did one of the cameras fail? Film worked well though and I have left a comment as usual.

@@JodelFlyer The cockpit camera's new battery did not make a good connection so lost most of the flight from that until I noticed it was not on and pluged the battery bank into it. So lost audio as well and forgot to turn on the side view cam but the other camera tried in the forward view from the strut held out. Thanks for watching.
