Totally agree. I’ve been saying this in comment sections all season. That relationship is too one sided and it can’t last forever. As they grow up and have adult responsibilities it would fall apart just for the reasons Erica mentioned. I’m glad this happened.

@J Warner she explains it perfectly herself in the episode. She says as you get older you‘ll realize what you missed by not finding yourself sooner and you will grow to resent me. Even in this episode you can see the underlying contempt he has for his feeling like she steamrolled him into going on this stupid camping trip. She wouldn’t listen when he said I have an important paper to write. He gave into her like an idiot and now he’s mad and she’s mad at him for not standing up to her. The Goldbergs and these characters are some of the most entitled characters on television. As college students they have no real responsibilities except to go to school. Nobody’s “working their way through college”. When you’re working you have the adult responsibilities in your job, supporting yourself and others if you have a family. It’s a lot heavier than school days. It causes pressure that I can only think of as adult.

@J Warner It’s like you’re jumping through hoops not to see the point here. Did you even watch the episode? Erica was mad at him for not pushing back when the paper was so important. She seems like she’s maturing now that her life is a lot more “on track”. She doesn’t need a doormat anymore. Subconsciously she may be realizing she’s moving past this relationship. You’re “happy wife happy life” scenario is so narrow in scope compared to the situation. But then again, it’s just a TV show. A diversion so who cares.

I just love the fact that it's Erica who realizes this and takes the initiative to step back for him. Most shows would show the girl taking advantage of this quality in a man for her own benefit. But here, it's not the case and it's shockingly refreshing and non topic. Heck, the fact she realizes how toxic the relationship has become for Geoff alone makes this scene all the more better

@@darwinbowman8512 Agreed 100% if it was like how it is a lot of the times in relationships, I would've hated the scene, but it shows growth for Erica, because she realizes Geoff has lost himself in pleasing her and that she wants him to rediscover who he is, so that when they do work it out Geoff can finally tell her no and what his wants and needs are so Erica can finally reciprocate those same feelings Geoff has for her and the relationship is 50/50 like all relationships should be.

An alpha and a beta pairing doesn’t necessarily equal a one sided relationship. It usually works well actually. But in any relationship, it’s important for individuals to know who they are and what matters to them.

I felt that both of theses couples Adam and brea and Geoff Erica made the mature decisions and had a real open couple conversation lt is true love it is important but you also need understanding so cute for Adam and brea yet so sad for Erica and Geoff and sometimes need to make the hard decisions Gorman miss then but sure hard decisions will work out in the end rela Roman video in both their scenes 😢

Unfortunately, Pops had been taking a smaller role in the show for a while now and sometimes wasn't episodes at all, probably because George Segal's health was declining.

It looked like Barry and Laney didn’t end up together in Schooled. Good!! There is room to imagine this relationship working out in the end. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Schooled was so stupid for trying to tell us what happened in the future. It didn’t leave room for the characters to grow and move on different paths in this show. Schooled- the dumbest idea ever!!

I think they have some full episodes on daily motion for free. I typed the Goldbergs Se and saw some from each season (Goldbergs Se1-8)

J Warner there’s nothing wrong with it to a degree, but she’s right. After a while he would resent her. Because she’s an inherently selfish person. So everything is always about her and what she wants. And that’s not fair. Relationships are a partnership. And Erica needs time to herself to learn how to be a partner and not someone who expects someone to give up everything for her. And it shows growth that she knows that.

J Warner except Bev and Murray both get to be selfish and giving from time to time. In their relationship Geoff is never selfish and Erica is almost never giving. Bev and Murray are a partnership. She indulges his laziness and takes care of him. He’s indulges her craziness and supports her weird things.

J Warner eh, when ur used to a certain dynamic it’s really really hard to change it. (Example here) I’m used to my mom doing things for me. When I’m with other people out in the world, I’m a good leader, I’m a good problem solver, there are tons of things that I’m great at. But when I’m at home that side of me just turns off and my mom and I fall back into our dynamic that neither of us want. Because that’s how we know to relate to each other. She makes decisions, she tells me what do to. I do what’s asked. She does most of it though. And that’s a dynamic we can only break by me moving away, taking some distance and getting more comfortable in my personality away from home. So I can hope that one day I can just be that all the time, instead of letting myself be selfish at home. I really really understand what they’re saying here and why they need a break. If u love someone, and they don’t expect you to change, you never will. U might a little, u might really want to. But u don’t have to, and you’re both so used to expecting a certain behavior that’s it’s all u know and it’s what u fall back into.

@@GOLDFISH3615 they probably had a roller coaster relationship during the 80’s and 90’s, and then divorced in the 2000’s. I think Erica gave Geoff a time out, so that she could get to know him better, and so that he get develop a sense of self-containment. I didn’t think they would be a perfect match, considering that Geoff was a little bit on the “dorky” side; however considering that the creator of the series was kind of a dork himself, and that Erica’s character was semi-fictional, the family member she was modelled after was male in real life, you’d have to go with it. Erica, I think was desperate during these years, and couldn’t find a guy that suited her standards, and it appeared that Geoff was the only one who was sincere, and committed to trying to become her “Romeo”, and she blew him off one time too many, while developing an appreciation for his presence.

Looking back, Ross and Rachel were toxic and immature. Let's hope they become more of a Chandler and Monica.

Ross-He always had to have the upper hand on her. Hardly supportive when she got the job of her dreams and became more independent. He was also very insecure especially whenever she spent time with Mark. But somehow it was okay for him to spend time with that stripper just cuz they both had kids. So add double standards on top of that. Rachel- any relationship Ross had, she felt the need to break them up including his own wedding to Emily. Julie was the nicest one Ross dated and she did everything she could to destroy it. Even her friends were okay with that. They were both immature and acted like children.

It's the 8th season, so it's still legit. But I gotcha on the screwed-up timeline. I guess because it's LOOSELY based on Goldberg's, they can take liberties. As far as I can recall, I've seen 4 (if not more) episodes that had to have taken place in 1989.

Really? Cause I think that was a smart decision. They need this break. Geoff needs to stop centering his life over Erica's needs and Erica needed to realize he was holding him back in some regards. She did the right thing by backing off. Their time apart will allow him to grow as a person and become more assertive so he can have his own identity beyond being Erica's boyfriend. That's what he needs rn

Earlier, she saw that Geoff was putting pretty much constantly putting Erica before himself. She then felt/realized that he needs to focus on himself and this was the only way that could happen.

Do you really not see her point? If you make someone your whole life, give up everything for them, one day you will resent that. She isn't saying she doesn't love or want to be with him she's saying he needs to figure out who he is and what he wants without her so he can learn to say no to her. This is probably the least toxic thing she's done in their relationship.

Joanne is Geoff's older sister. For Ren, I forgot the reason, but a fortune teller said that one of the sibling's relationship was gonna end and it ended up being Barry's.

Lol its not that 70's show type show. Look at season 1 it was like that but that changes the formula so that the show could last longer.

It would be better without the narrative at the beginning and end of the shows, same with Schooled, Blackish and Mixedish.

I’m with you on the narration. It works during the episodes to introduce what’s going on but endings are sometimes stupid, they aren’t just narrating events as they happen, they tie it up in some big theme that many times seems forced. Like they’re looking for an over arching point when there really isn’t one.
