I would suggest adding a narrow fabric loop to hold a pen. Maybe take one more mini square, fold it in half, open it up and fold both sides into the fold, and then fold in half again before stitching along the fold. Insert this loop when sewing around the exterior edge.

LOVE how precise and neat the completed book cover turned out. Your video makes me want to learn how to operate a sewing machine so I make things customised to my needs and rely on purchasing something that does not work. I am impressed with the precision and steadiness you demonstrated. Being a painful perfectionist this was a a satisfying tutorial to watch for entertainment and to learn from. I don’t know anything about sewing machine or sewing related, but you this look extremely easy. I can use these covers for my expensive text books. I was search for book covers like the one you made on Amazon and etsy, and boy they are extremely expensive ranging from $25 to $50. Thank you, Many wishes and best regards to you and your family, From Edmonton AB,

Great tutorial. I just tried making one to cover my happy planner. Let's just say, it didn't work out and leave it at that. lol I'll try again though!
@erica_arndt5 жыл бұрын
Sorry! Not sure which part didn't work, but maybe you need to give a little extra width due to the spiral rings.
@cristinareiser54475 жыл бұрын
Erica Arndt It has nothing to do with your directions, more with my sewing skills and measuring. It was a little big and too floppy. It might work when the planner is full and chunky though. 😀

Hey Erica! Another great idea! I wonder...what are the pros & cons of approaching this project as a QAYG ???
@erica_arndt2 жыл бұрын
I think you could do a QAYG if you really wanted to, but I would probably sew the rows together first, otherwise you would have to stop your seams 1/4" from each end to add the new square each time. That sounds like too much work to me, so I think traditional piecing would be easier for this patchwork layout. So I probably wouldn't do QAYG unless you want to make it more scrappy like this potholder: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fsyeZJZ8t8urc4k.html

How would you add a zip around for a bible cover/tote? I'm having a hard time finding a pattern to fit my bible that is 3" deep, 10" tall and 7" wide.

With something this small would you think it would be okay just to use straight pins to hold the batting in place?
@erica_arndt5 жыл бұрын
Possibly, I tend to like wonder clips for binding because it's kind of bulky :)
@CreationsOfAMoonChild5 жыл бұрын
I know this video is super old but do you like that cut and press mat? I have limited space and am considering getting that in lieu of a full on ironing board, or is there a better option? I already have a normal self healing mat. TIA ❤️
@erica_arndt5 жыл бұрын
Hi! I LOVE IT! I have a new ironing board now and love that one too, but the cut n press mat is great! Especially for quilting, it's a bit denser than regular ironing boards so I think it helps give you flatter seams. Here's my new DIY Ironing Board: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oa-inaSa3cWaloE.html

Can you please share how long it took you to make this? I am hoping to make them for my kiddos or one for myself if it takes a bit of time. What kind of sewing machine are you using in the video?
@erica_arndt8 жыл бұрын
+Moe Butler This one took about 2.5 hours to complete, but I think it depends on if you sit down and do it all at one time, or if you're sewing between other activities in your life :) I use a JUKI G-210 and LOVE IT!

Could you put an elastic and button on before you stitched the whole project together? I can't see why it wouldn't work but just thought I'd ask in case there is something I'm not thinking of.
