I always hate it when NASCAR is discounted as a sport. It’s just as much of a sport as NFL, NBA, or MLB. It’s also bad when you have to attack the competitors and fans of a sport in order to criticize it’s value to your area.

I bet you this reporter does not even watch NASCAR. I will admit that I had some legitimate concerns about the street race at Chicago last year, including the concerns about a mass shooting happening at the track itself, or even a fatality. I am glad that I was proven wrong about it, and I look forward to the race this year. But do I think it should stay long term? Probably not. You could try different markets like the Wyobraska area, or maybe in Denver (pipe dream name would be the Furniture Row Grand Prix). And this is if they can't get Chicagoland back. Edit: I've seen that the ticket prices for general admission were starting at a rather high price of approximately $250. That is not exactly a good sign to bring in a general audience. In fact, that seems as though we are becoming no better than F1 with elitism. I certainly hope that this does not continue into next year, if we get a third race date in Grant Park.

Having someone talk about the area's food reminds me of the "Buffet Benny" segments that Benny Parsons used to have on ESPN broadcast back when he would talk about some of the local delicacies.

I liked that segment at the end highlighting local cuisine so much I think it could be a recurring topic. Be it food, art, something else I think culture deserves to be highlighted for other racetracks in different markets that NASCAR gets around too.

If you think about it, the first Cup race at CotA was a deluge, with the following year being pretty good. Hopefully, the Chicago Street Race can follow the example.

As a local to Chicago (20mins away) and Chicagoland speedway (20mins away) as well I wouldn’t mind it being the last year for the street race cause a lot of people want them back at Chicagoland speedway. There’s 3 tracks drag strip circle track and dirt track and because there’s no nascar race at the speedway it affects us local racers and fans cause there’s a track sitting there ready to come back that’s holding the other tracks back because of money.

Long time watcher. Live in the heart of the city of Chicago. Been a nascar fan for 20+ years now and im super excited for them to be racing in the city. NASCAR has really embraced the city. There has been events over the city for the last 2 weeks. I went to Daniel's Amigos event and Bubba's block party.( they gave free general admission vouchers to the race). #34 was on display at the white sox game last week.

6:41 as a Brazilian, its very unfortunate to a american city dont accept a american Sport in their roads, Nascar really needs to expand, i hope Chicago keeps it in the calendar. Here in Brazil for exemple, Nascar is growing in popularity considerably, so, i really hope they expand for different tracks, Road tracks, and maybe in Interlagos one day, like they did in Japan, i would love that!

When I heard about the Chicago street race a year ago I tuned in for what I thought would be a cool novelty and brief flashback to my childhood, as I hadn’t watched a full race since about 2011. A year of following the cup series and a subscription to this channel later, I see how wise of a decision the street race was. I love the sport more now than I ever did when I was younger and I’d be lying if I said the Chicago street race didn’t rekindle that excitement.

I used to work in Chicago and stayed at a motel by the Leaning Tower replica and there was a mom & pop Greek restaurant. It was to die for. Haven't been back to Chicago in 20 years.

I’ve never been to Chicago but I think the first thing I’d eat would definitely be a Chicago style hotdog.

I’m cautiously optimistic for the race. For one, the rain made for a slick, unforgiving surface which made for sensational racing (for a road course). With the rain gone, the race could go either way. Hopefully, since they’re mostly public roads, there won’t be too much grip in the first place.

Id love to see NASCAR and Indy run a double header at Long Beach.

Grandfather was from Chicago. Lots of friends from Chicago. They always talk “Chicago pizza” as deep dish. They call the other tavern pizza. Now go and get an Italian beef.

I watch everything BUT American stock cars and drag racing but this is an incredible race. I don’t even watch nascar on TV but I’d pay to see this in person

I think I saw a pizza hut ad for "chicago tavern style" but yeah growing up in chicago area no one ate deep dish, only very cheesy flat thin crust pizza, i have had that phils place it is good. I used to live in armor square (a close neighborhood to downtown) and I'd say go to Reggies, they used to have cheaper beer but honestly a decent dive bar with affordable prices, but what you should eat in Chicago is Mexican food (Go to pilsen or bridgeport/mckinley park on the orange line) or Italian Beef with hot Giardiniera, those are the staples. If you are by chinatown (not far from track) the spicy fried chicken (or beef or pork) at lao szechuan is good too, probably best fried chicken recipe i've come across, its called chefs special. And don't get pizza at ricobenes it sucks, that is like shitty chicago pizza with a nasty frozen crust. And if you like beer craft or otherwise there is a place called beer temple which has alot of imported beers or beers from Illinois you can't get elsewhere, not close to track but a gem of chicago. Also a warning the subway trains in Chicago have been a piss, shit, and meth filled dump since 2020.

If Chicago waives goodbye to NASCAR after this event I'd love to see the series race in downtown Houston. Maybe a course that includes a view of Minute Maid Park. Being only about 3 hours from where I live it would provide perhaps the best opportunity that I would have to finally make a NASCAR race. As my favorite driver, BK has said; he's happy to race anywhere he's wanted. And I agree with that philosophy.

Not planning to even watch Chicago. I do wish they would start having a truck race every week though because right now the truck series is the most entertaining of the 3 main series

That reporter probably thinks the city doesn't enjoy having fun. Headaches exist in this city every day, and still we're very resilient and keep pushing on. Enjoy Chicago, we fans of Nascar really love it.

O'Donnell is one of those people who would rather die than ever give NASCAR anything approaching a fair shake, and he and people like him are not worth giving any attention to, the same coin as the people on NASCAR Twitter still whinging about NASCAR in Chicago in the first place. The best part about people like him is that they are far outnumbered by people who aren't like them and are willing to give new things a chance.

If you’re in Chicago, you gotta have Portillo’s. It isn’t high dining but it’s good. Most any ma and pa type restaurant you go to will be good. Salerno’s has great pizza, they’re near downtown.

The race on Saturday was actually very good. Shane Van Ginsburg is really a impressive Street racer. And of course Kyle Larson incredible driver. Sunday's race I do expect many cautions

After the Detroit race in IndyCar, I didn't give this race last yeah any shoot at being something. I thought it would be a crash-fest, mostly raced under yellow flag conditions. Outside of Truex looking like a guy who was in his first race ever, it was a great race. All the chances of passing anywhere. Fantastic race, not a perfect race, but yeah... lol

As a fan I like road corses but I don’t like Chicago. I will watch to see if it is better than last year.

I like the Chicago street course and would like to see Nascar try another one Plus i would also like to see Nascar do a exhibition series where they can try out the different Road courses that the tracks have inside the oval tracks and see if they would make for a new race to add into the cup and Xfinity series and yes Nascar can do a couple new oval tracks to see if they could become a permanent stay on the schedule but it would mainly be road courses in side the tracks and if they did it they could figure out how to balance out running the oval and road course in the same week The big part would be if they did the exhibition races then they could take different drivers from the top 3 series and from the different organization/ race team and have them rotate the drivers and see if the 2 lower series drivers have what it takes to get a cup ride

NASCAR put themselves in this position. If they never implemented the chase, hell if Brian France try everything he could to destroy what his grand father and father built, NASCAR wouldn't be in the position to have to attract places like Chicago.
