Eric Sermons, voice from the first time I heard him, was the most pleasing to ears. His productions had a warmth to them, and his delivery was so laid back and a refreshing change compared to most that I have ever heard.

I could not understand why when Eric Sermon was doing this fascinating breakdown back and fourth the host had an ego malfunction and kept changing the direction. We are soo interested and he just would not or was unable to let him lead and teach for a sec. It was painful. Also I'm ADHD and so Eric's teaching style had me hooked up the Host kept throwing it of course purposely every second he could. LIKE WHAT HAPPENED

He's from the era, he asked the question, then he acted like he didn't know the reason for the breakup as if he hadn't heard about it already.. with the biggest group or on Beef documentary or on other interviews E spoke on it. Toure needs to interview: Poor Righteous Teachers X-Clan They came out after Boogie Down Productions, Naughty By Nature and EPMD, and were contemporaries of Wu-Tang Clan and Brand Nubian and had a Five-Percenter influence just like them.

EPMD to me is the best duo of all time to me, no question. Erick didn't talk about how he still gets paid every time an artist samples the So Whatcha Saying beat, which is crazy. And the original sample, Fairplay by Soul II Soul... I agree that there are the "givens" when it comes to top 5. My top 5 with that same mindset are 3 Stacks Pharoahe Monch Rass Kass Royce Push

Yo.. I got love for Erick Sermon but he is missing Toure’s point about how socioeconomics played a huge part in how and why hip hop became so diverse and the 90 percent of the rappers who really blew up and had longevity were middle class people with more access to education and music education. It’s true that certain parts of Long Island were hood but like Queens before it.. LI was a thriving middle to upper class community. Run DMC were middle class kids who eclipsed the rappers from the Bronx and Harlem. The Fat Boys Eric B and Rakim, De La Soul, ATCQ, Salt and Pepa, Kwame, Latifah Hurby Luv Bug among so many others were talented and gifted high schoolers and college educated middle class people. I’m from Harlem and The Bronx and unless you were in specific areas and enclaves you were in the projects and tenement buildings. Kurtis Blow and Kool Moe Dee came from two parent houses and were college educated and they were very successful in their early careers. Even Biggie was a catholic school kid who lived in a brownstone with a mom who was in healthcare. Pac, Eminem, Nas and Jay-Z were exceptions to the situation. Ain’t no shame in having a great upbringing! 💯
