Stan Lee once said this was his favorite cameo. In the movies based on his work, he always cameos as some clueless goofball but here, he is playing himself as he would genuinely react if random fans came to his house uninvited.

The restraining orders must have risen in value after Stan Lee and Leonard Nimoy passed away.

Stan Lee has explained that the reason he gave so many characters first and last names starting with the same letter was so that he could remember the name since he was creating so many characters it could get confusing. If he could remember the first name, he had a clue as to the last name.

Funny thing is that half of the characters Raj mentioned weren't even created by Stan Lee. Marvel characters having the same letters as their initials was mostly just a tradition that Stan started, but he didn't name every character since he became much less creatively involved in the comics in 1968.

To answer Raj's question, the reason so many Marvel characters have same initials is because Stan Lee felt it was easier to remember them that way. And soon after that is just became a tradition. Also, I´m surprised Raj forgot about these: - Wyatt Wingfoot - Warren Worthington - Wade Wilson - Bucky Barnes - Silver Sable - Madrox the Multiple Man - Jessica Jones - Loki Laufeyson - Miles Morales - Rocket Racoon - Black Bolt - Doctor Doom - Ms. Marvel - Silver Samurai - Moira McTaggart - Betsy Braddock - Robbie Robertson - Charlie Cluster - Carl Creel - Sebastian Shaw

If it was J.K. Rowling instead of Stan Lee... Raj: "I can't wait to ask J.K. Rowling why she insists on giving so many of her characters first and last names that start with the same letter." Leonard: "Why would you do that?" Raj: Severus Snape, Minerva McGonagall, Filius Flitwick, Quirinus Quirrel, Cho Chang, Luna Lovegood, Gellert Grindelwald." Later... Raj: "Mine says 'To Raj from J.K. Rowling." Howard: "Because you p* her off about her character names." Raj: "Hey I didn't even mention Dudley Dursley, Collin Creevy, Stan Shunpike, Gregory Goyle, Pansy Parkinson, Bathilda Bagshot, Pavarti and Padma Patil." Later... Raj: "Mad-Eye Moody, Nearly-Headless Nick, Moaning Myrtle, Bloody Baron, Fat Friar, Bertie Botts, Chudley Cannons, Wimbourne Wasps..." Howard: "Would you let it go?!" Raj: "Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw, Salazar Slytherin."

Fun fact: DC actually had Stan Lee do a series of one-shots where he reimagined concepts from their comics called Just Imagine. One of the concepts was Batman!

My only issue with the whole 'Stan Lee' cameo phenomenon is that he's become such a huge part of the mainstream cultural zeitgeist that his fellow co-creators at Marvel are constantly overlooked and have kind of fallen into obscurity among casual non-comic book-reading fans. Marvel owes a lot to Stan, but there's also people like Steve Ditko, who co-created Spider-Man and Dr. Strange for instance, and Jack Kirby, who co-created the Fantastic Four and the Eternals. I love what Stan did for Marvel, and have lots of reverence for him and his work, but I wish these other less-known comic book giants would get their day in the sun as well.

I tell you what’s made the difference. Jack Kirby was dead since 1994 and ditko was pretty bitter since he left marvel. Simple as that Stan lee was there to represent old guard of marvel and by the by unlike others he was always more publicity person you know giving interviews, going to conventions even at his old age.
@tehdipstick
@tehdipstick 2 жыл бұрын
@@danzansandeev6033 Well sure, Stan has always been better at self-promotion, and there's nothing wrong with that, especially as a businessman, which he was, but that's not my point. I'm aware of the reasons why Kirby, Ditko and others aren't as well known, but they still deserve more recognition than they get. It's not too long ago that I could say the same about Bill Finger and his contribution to the Batman lore over at DC. Bob Kane was always better at marketing himself, which meant that Finger ended up getting overlooked most of the time, even though his contributions were significant. Back when the first Batman movie was released in 1989, Finger wasn't even credited as a co-creator because Kane was kind of a self-centered egomaniac, and people in general had no idea exactly how much of Batman's creation was Finger's doing. Stan Lee, meanwhile, never disputed that people like Ditko or Kirby were co-creators and integral people during the inception of the Marvel comics universe, though he did have a habit of trying to take credit for some of their work at times. Anyway, my point is that it's completely understandable why Stan has become such a huge part of the cultural zeitgeist, especially to the general audience who are mainly familiar with the movies, and his many cameos, rather than the comic books, but the contributions of people like Kirby, Ditko and others can't be overstated either, and unfortunately their influence has become relatively obscured by Stan's pop culture stardom.

Having grown up reading Marvel comic books, I know who Stan Lee was and I'm glad he got so much recognition being part of all the MCU movies (and The Big Bang Theory!). But I'm also curious what people who are not as familiar with comics know about him. I've seen comments saying that he drew the original comics (he was a writer/editor not an artist) or even that he "owns Marvel" (he doesn't), etc. Stan Lee (whose was born "Stanley Lieber", by the way) was the head writer and editor at Marvel Comics during the early days in the early 60's when most of the iconic Marvel characters were created. The way that they worked back then, Stan Lee would give a very brief outline of a story to the artist and the artist would draw the whole story and then Lee would add the dialogue. This came to be known as "The Marvel Method" and, since the artist was deciding what to draw and how to draw it, it resulted in visually exciting comic books. Lee was also editor meaning he had final approval over everything that went out. But did you happen to notice the traffic court judge in this episode had a name plate reading "Judge J. Kirby"? That would be a nod to the immortal Jack Kirby. He was the main artist (and also the man credited with a lot of the "big ideas" that came out of Marvel). Kirby is acknowledged as one of the true giants in the comic book industry, with a career spanning from the 30's all the way until the 80's. He had a drawing style that brought ENERGY and POWER to comics. Among Kirby's accomplishments: he co-created Captain America during World War II, co-created the Marvel universe in the 60's, went over to DC comics in the early 70's and created the whole New Gods/Darkseid mythology (as both writer and artist), then went back to Marvel in the late 70's and created the whole Eternals/Celestials mythology (again as both writer and artist). Some even credit him for influencing George Lucas when Lucas created Star Wars (many themes and ideas in Star Wars can be found in the New Gods stories and Darth Vader looks a lot like both Dr. Doom and Darkseid) So, if we look at some of the biggest film franchises today - the MCU, The DCEU and Star Wars, you could say that Jack Kirby had a hand in creating ALL OF IT.

I'm with you. There's no celebrity I'm desperate to meet. We need to stop putting these people on such high pedestals. The garbage collectors, firefighters, and nurses deserve the pay that those elitists get. And another yes, omg pet peeve when people blast their music in public, especially when I'm at a nature preserve or park and just wanna enjoy the sounds of the birds. So one time when I was playing for a corporate soft ball team in NJ, I asked Yogi Berra to sign a soft ball that I had used in our winning playoff game (I was the pitcher). He laughed and said he had never signed a soft ball before. He wrote "Best of Luck Etta, Yogi Berra" Pretty cool huh? It was a fundraiser and people were buying baseballs for him to sign but I thought it would be nice to sign a ball that actually meant something to me too. Sort of a similar situation I guess....
