Sharing the early planning stages with us is so helpful. Reviewing source artwork, identifying key points, and incorporating them into a design; we don't see that side of the hobby as much as builds themselves. There's a wealth of great info available on how to build, but less available on the process of figuring out what to build. I really appreciate you sharing that creative planning phase.

And they didn’t come up with those styles on their own. This didn’t come from a vacuum. As often happens, they stand on the shoulders of giants. They learned them from Les Edwards and Michael Whelan who were essentially putting into art Ray Bradbury’s detailed descriptions of white towers, spires, etc. in Martian Chronicles. Before that, look at the white towers, domes and minarets sketched and painted by Frazetta for Burrough’s Barsoom novels (the film John Carter did them justice). Before Frazetta’s depictions of alien white towers, domes and other organic spires, there were even earlier German depictions of Martian life, with ancient cities that could have passed for Eldar architecture today.

Couple of things: first this is a fantastic build. Second, the ideas of using epa foam to make the curved glyphs, the spackle to blend the curves, and the gesso to give the flat white surface are all great!. Last, when I saw the thumbnail for the video, I feared we had completely lost you to 3d printing, and that made me sad because your building techniques are so accessible. I'm super happy that they continue to be👍👍👍

If you're not used to making things symmetrically, go for asymetry. It doesn't have to necessarily be multiple exact items, but you can utilize multiple items that are custom shapes that intentionally vary. Like say you want fins on the spire - the find don't have to match, but can be longer, shorter, etc. To make them match you can add similar design ideas, like similar sized holes or notches in similar places across those pieces. My other tip for eldar terrain, is if you have access to a belt sander - use MDF board (3/4 or 1/2 inch) and carve your shapes that way after cutting out the rough shape. It works great for things like what gates and the of shark fin shapes. Just please wear a mask of some sort, that crap is dusty and filled with glue. The trade-off is it's cheap and fairly durable for terrain purposes.

Try using caulking instead of drydex for the joints. Makes for less sanding and less mess. They sell little tubes of caulking so you don’t have to use a big caulking gun. Great build Eric! Keep em coming!

Eric, this awesome. Makes me want to crack open my old Eldar army now. I made some Eldar scenery years ago, not quite as 'rounded' or straightforward as yours, kinda wish I'd seen your vid first. Great work!!

This is awesome. Love the contrast between this and the grimdark. I also like how you keep moving forward with the project. Not obsessing over every minor detail, just getting it done. This is something I need to work on so I find this video very encouraging.

You know, I don't think I've ever come across a terrain builder produce anything for Eldar (hell, even GW seems to have forgotten about them). Great focus on something that we don't see that often, and (not coincidently) also relevant to the army I collect.

I love how unsubtle 40k is. Even the eldar, who on the surface appear to be a highly sophisticated and very subtle race indeed, actually live in LITERAL IVORY TOWERS 🤣
