A formidable figure with flaming red hair, a wild beard, and a temper to match is not the type of person most people would choose to cross swords with. And that, by all accounts, is a fitting description of Erik the Red. This was not a man to be taken lightly or challenged in battle. He was courageous on the battlefield, an accomplished seafarer, indomitable warrior, and unstoppable adventurer. In short, Erik the Red was everything we imagine a Viking to be.

Same here, I just learned that our family may be decendants of Erik through ancestry tests. I even have the reddish beard to go with it. I always wondered why my beard has such a strong red color but the hair on my head doesn't have it. Especially when the sunlight hits my beard it really shows up red We are not 100% sure, but it seems more likely as we learn more with ancestry tests.

Too many inaccuracies to count as a credible retelling of the life and adventures of Eiríkur and his family. F.i. there was no concept of "murder" in the fledgeling society of the Icelandic nation. There was only manslaughter, justifiable or not. And the "outlaw" sentence was 3 years regardless. The population in Iceland referred to themselves as "Icelanders" and Þjóðhildur (Eiríks wife) was born an Icelander. They used the term "Norrænn" to describe anyone of Norwegian or Danish decent, (speaking of Swedes as Swedes) so they would not have used the term "norseman" for anyone except perhaps Eiríkur himself. As with all the sagas written in Iceland by Icelanders, there is embellishment and extrapolation for narrative purposes - but what facts and statements there are should be retold accurately.
