I say Photoshop but everything except for step 3 (separating the sketch) will work in Procreate (in that case you can use the multiply and color underneath method instead)! Always prefer traditional since you feel like you are in control. Digital makes it easier to color but I'm honestly intimidated by the number of layers being used.

i prefer to sketch traditionally then transfer and colour digitally, i don't seem to find sketching digitally comfortable yet...

Something I think that helps a lot if you want to get more comfortable with sketching digitally is finding the right brush and the right settings that are most comfortable to you. Maybe I'll do a video about this 🤔

Me neither, actually! I just can make humans in digital (since I have practiced more with them), but if they have a very complicated pose or if it's an animal, Pokemon, whatever? I'm forced to make a sketch in traditional. So I'm forcing myself to make lineart in digital from scratch lol. Pain.

I actually enjoy occasionally sketching with a ballpoint or fineliner without pencil because it forces me to own my mistakes and be more meaningful with my strokes. I think some people get lazy with erasable materials or digital art.

I enjoy sketching traditionally and coloring digitally because I'm much more comfortable sketching with pen and paper and you can do much more color wise with digital art. Thank you for sharing! She turned out lovely and I will definitely be putting these tips to use! :D

This is how I did it as well! I've gotten more comfortable doing a drawing start to finish digitally since then but if I'm sketching just to sketch then traditionally 100%! And you have a great point about having more color options when working digitally! Sometimes it's so hard to blend with traditional supplies! Thank you! 💕

This is the best of both worlds for me. I don't like drawing digitally and prefer the feeling of control I have with a pencil and pen. However I enjoy the wide range of shading and coloring options available digitally to add finishing touches to my art in a much less painless manner, infinite retries!

This is the most helpful tutorial I've ever seen on this topic! I vaguely knew how to do this, but there were always things that bothered me that you covered, like fixing the light afterwards and erasing unwanted pencil marks. I've heavily invested myself in digital for the last few years, but now I've been aiming to give this method a shot again. Thank you so much for making this video!!!

I think I prefer to sketch digitally, but now after seeing this video, I really love how the texture looks of it all! Thank you so much! This is a great help! I know this was a year ago, but to answer your question, I prefer to draw traditionally! The tactile experience of making my art is very important to me, and I feel like I sacrifice a lot of that when I work digitally.

This is so helpful! I'm new to the digital art world, and this makes things simple and easy to follow. BTW this method also works in Photopea, which is like an alternative browser version of Photoshop.

I do almost all my sketching on paper with a pencil or sometimes a pen but I wanted to be able to color my drawings in photoshop this tutorial was very helpful thank you.

I colour my sketches digital all the time! I generally set the sketch photo to grayscale, change back to RBG, then a combo of brightness/contrast and level adjustments. Most of the time I can't pick back up every very fuzzy details, so I have to accept some loses. Once I'm happy I set the photo to multiply and then colour on layers underneath!

I've been drawing traditionally since I could first hold a pencil, and I'm fairly new to digital art. I feel like I have more control with pencil and paper than I do with my Wacom tablet, so I would say I prefer traditional. Though I do love the convenience o digital art, but I'm afraid I don't know all the tips and tricks of the art programs I have. I'll just have to watch more of your videos!

Love the video, it helped me a lot. What causes the brush to suddenly paint black is your brush mode is not set to normal. Change that and it will not happen.

I actually like both but, I am struggling with the digital learning curve, because I just can't seem to get the shadows step done so that it looks natural. I notice that most artists don't describe that portion often. Otherwise, I do love both, and this video was quite helpful

It's a surprise to most people but I prefer working traditionally. I've always preferred tactile feedback when drawing and I feel like overall I just get better results, but as you can probably guess I do more work by sheer volume digitally.

I just came to this conclusion myself, I way prefer my results when I do a traditional sketch and then colour digitally. I love your tips and tricks for it!

I like sketching traditionally because I am very spontaneous when I want to draw and can loose momentum fast. So pulling out a pencil and a notebook is way faster than hooking up my drawing tablet. If I wait too long to actually start I loose that creative Jumpstart and hit artist block.

I sketch traditionally and then screenshot it and do the rest of the work in digital as I don't have colored pencils nor a black marker and erasing is super hard traditionally. At the end of the drawing, the sketch part will be completely gone and replaced with a digital version but I guess it's worth it as I'm not that comfortable yet with a tablet. Also cuz I have screen time and would like to use it up to do daily illustrations instead.

I used to prefer traditional sketches/art, because I had the feeling that I could controll it better. But with the iPad and the Pencil I prefer digitally because I don‘t feel like “wasting“ materials. 🙈
