For someone who grew up with a single mother who was also taking care of my dying grandmother, going days with no other food besides top ramen and rice, being bullied for wearing the same old clothes and shoes to school, this type of wealth is beyond my understanding. I can't even fathom what it's like to have that much money, to be a child that dosent have to worry about when the next meal is or wonder what it's like to have the newest toys and games. Sometimes I'm glad I was raised the way I was because it shaped me into the person I am today but sometimes I just wonder what life would be like if my family was this rich. Maybe I'll find out in the next life but for now I'm content and happy.

Actually, New York real estate has been declining since people have moved away now that they can work from home, but billionaire's row is one of the few places that continued to rise in price. Like the video said, most of the buyers don't live there. It's an investment for them, and its been working. The value has continued to rise. It's not going anywhere. The only way for it to flop would be for a similar neighborhood to appear in an entirely different city somewhere else in the world.

The problems with all of these is, that 13,million is very less, if compared to some others, like in billionares row there r apartments worth like, 100M, 200M, even one that's 750M......if someone were to pay that much to buy a house/apartment they'd customize each and every brick, why would someone pay 750M for an apartment which is already built? The only thing I like abt penthouses or apartments r the breathtaking views but they r not worth the millions of dollars
@1370802
@1370802 2 жыл бұрын
@@Shrine_of_Karma What makes these unique is the privacy. Each apartment is an entire floor, and because the building owns the air rights, homeowners know for a fact that no other buildings will ever be built next to theirs. That means guaranteed privacy, silence, and a good view of Central Park. It's nearly impossible to be guaranteed that In NYC. Also, there are probably people who would pay extra for something already built since they don't want to go through the process of designing an apartment. You prefer something customized, but others might not.

The views and everything is so amazing. It looks wonderful and so opulent. I can only imagine how alive the city looks at night. I guess if I had that kinda money, I'd love it as my now and again place... But I'd definitely own a house with a yard and a pool as my permanent residence. The New York skyline is amazing from that height, but nothing beats having your own piece of actual earth and sky above your house...seeing birds, walking on grass... planting some flowers... that feels like home.

I think it's cool to see these apartments, and you, personally, make great content. But as someone who lived across the river on a street that faced these buildings, they are complete eyesores. They completely ruin the skyline and look hilariously out of place in the city. I'm still amazed that the developers were allowed to build buildings as tall as they are. You don't notice it when you're on the street, as everything looks huge, but once you get outside the city, it's jarring to look at. These huge glass towers that stick out like sore thumbs among the iconic buildings of Riverside Drive and midtown. Seriously, take a drive along Kennedy Blvd in West New York or North Bergen, or even sit at a restaurant along River Road in Edgewater, and all these buildings look goofy when you look at the city. It's not as noticeable from Queens/Brooklyn, from the NJ side of the Hudson, it's very strange. Additionally, these apartments sit empty for years on end, while there's homeless people in need of affordable housing.

I just moved out of my college apartment and can attest to the idea that views are overrated. My bedroom had an amazing view of our front door. What this means is that I theoretically could have used my bedroom window as a peephole instead of the peephole on my front door in order to see who was at the door. Unfortunately, I was too scared to use it in such way because I feared that the person at the door would notice me spying on them as they waited by the door. All in all, this just goes to show that views can be overrated, no matter how great they may seem at first.

The grill thing is a JennAir counter top grill. They can be electric or gas (usually whatever your stovetop is). Maytag sold the Jenn-Air company to Whirlpool in 2006. They’re super popular here in NC, especially with the higher end houses and almost every single cottage on the Outer Banks. You don’t hear much about them anymore but in 2018 Whirlpool did some rebranding and launched the new JennAir name (they removed the hyphen) to make it stand out a bit.

They'll just go buy elsewhere and take with them their property rates (yes, they pay the city rates that are sometimes higher than your rent and taxes combined) and jobs (average people like you and me service those buildings and use that money to raise their families) . Like it or not big investment is the lifeblood of every economy, take it from someone who is in Africa.

@@josetheman239 insightful comment. But, don’t U think there’s a balance that must be achieved?. If 80%+ of the city is foreign investors, then the city is not so “American”, locals must commute from far away to jobs inside the city. Cap foreign investments to no more than 30% of each building.
@josetheman239

@@vicmarc4984 I really do not like seeing a nurse or policeman commuting from God knows where in a 5 o'clock train to the city every morning. Those people should be accommodated within the neighborhood they service. As far as ownership, I think some kind of cap might work but this problem is just way too complex, we do not know what unintended consequences that cap may ultimately have. All in all I do not know the answer but we could start by designating buildings or small pockets of the community for essential workers first.

@@josetheman239 Most of us would be better off having more affordable housing because the market for housing would be based on its actual use value rather than strictly as a random investment vehicle like modern art. Beyond the expense of building and maintaining the buildings, housing in NYC is only expensive because people decided to speculate on it as well as the plethora of welfare programs and rent control laws, which reduce the supply of market rate housing for people not lucky enough to benefit from them and actually have to work.
