Because they'd think he'd be unable to get one over on them for that very reason. His inability to spell or pronounce words works in his favor with book smart women. Women with street smarts would be fooled by his association to those with money. He tells them he's married to Shirley, so when he says he can do something for them for a few thousand dollars, they'd think he wouldn't scam them because he wouldn't need to.

The cold part is that once he's finished with Sonya, she won't even be able to tell anyone because she was privy to everything and still chose to entertain them. She looked him up. Went and found him in ja!l and proceeded to continue a relationship with him. Even after all the calls were released, that changed nothing. Knew of his updated charges before his attorney and still entertained him. She'll have to take her L in silence because although people will listen to how he dogged her, theyll also laugh and say that's what she gets.
