Tetris Effect comes with a new feature called the Zone. While you are in the Zone, completed lines are transferred to the bottom of the playfield instead of being removed. This allows to clear more than 10 lines at once. The maximum number of counted lines are 16 and that's called a Decahexatris.

However, there were a few other Tetris games where such a thing was also possible. First, there're games with "cascade gravity". In normal Tetris, each block/mino falls down by as many lines you cleared below it (this can result in floating blocks). In cascade Tetris, each cluster (blocks/minos connected to each other, usually the remnants of a piece) will fall down as far as it can. I've shown a Tetris Worlds (2002) mode in this video. Further examples are the pay-to-win game Tetris Blitz, the galaxy mode in the mobile Tetris app (which resembles the former game Tetris Stars), the Tetris Friends mode Rally8P and the fan-made client Quadra (1999). In some of those games you can even clear more than 20 lines - depending on how you count. Here are 2 Quadra videos where players got a Perfect Clear after clearing 14 lines at once, as well as videos showing the other mentioned games and modes.

Then there's The New Tetris. The first game with Hold feature and also the first game that rewarded T-Spins in one way or the other: If you make a T-Spin Double, all blocks/minos get disconnect and fall all the way to the bottom (like in cascade Tetris) That's also called an avalanche. In case of a T-Spin Single, only the minos below the line clear get disconnected. Avalanches are bad for scoring, so nobody really cared about using that mechanics.
Then there's the scanner mode in some EA titles. I've shown Tetris for the PSP Mini but there's also Tetris for the PS3 (see video below). In scanner mode, completed lines stay where they are until the scanner becomes active. In earlier levels lines are removed every 4 pieces and in later levels every 12 pieces. There'll be also a cascade after the removal. Since completed lines are not transferred to the bottom, it's harder to clear 16 lines this way (if you don't count the cascade). A TGM4 / TGM3 Omega location test also showed a freezing mechanics which had a similar effect but only affected the bottom half of the playfield.

The former Japanese mobile game Tetris Monster had also that mechanics where completed lines were transferred to the bottom of the playfield. After a while you ran out of space and had to start your attack, in which case the attack strength of your monsters was calculated from the number of cleared lines as well as speed, T-Spins, Tetrises, combos etc.

That's pretty much it. There's also the mino shower ability in the rip-off game Tetris Burst which fills your entire field and then clears all blocks. Oh and people already made fan-games with the Zone mechanics.

PS: I know that I could have kinda build a "secret grade" (TGM series) at 9:05 by placing that T piece flat side down. But this would have prevented the T-Spin Double, and in The New Tetris it's game over when a block is partially placed outside of the visible area.
